general appearance
Kingsley has been blessed with height and broad shoulders. The man stands 6'4". From time to time, he will shave his head bald, but usually keeps his black hair buzzed short with a fade down to the nape of his neck. For years, he sported a single gold hoop earring, but that look was traded out at the end of the nineties.

skills
Dueling: Back in his auror days, Kingsley was a beast. During the Second Wizarding War, he proved himself as a highly skilled duelist often defeating multiple Death Eaters at once. He was bested by Bellatrix Lestrange during the Battle of the Department of Mysteries...but during the Battle of the Seven Potters, he was able to hold off Lord Voldemort for an extended period of time, surviving the battle with no serious injuries.

Bravery: Kingsley has never hesitated to act as the protector and defender. During the Battle of the Seven Potters, he was chased by five Death Eaters, and even on a Thestral protecting Hermione, he defeated three of them. During the Battle of Hogwarts, he stood alongside  Minerva McGonagall and Horace Slughorn to duel the Dark Lord.

Intelligence: Kingsley was not sorted into Ravenclaw for no reason.  The man possesses a brilliant, analytical mind.  His curiosity and thirst for knowledge and the truth made him a stellar investigator during his time as an auror--and his sound reasoning and reliance on logic served him very well during his tenure as Minister of Magic.

Charms: Kingsley is able to conjure a talking Patronus. His takes the form of a lynx. Further, he is capable of memory modification--highly advanced magic.

Leadership: A natural leader, Kingsley has always stepped forward.  The man served as leader of Order of the Phoenix after Mad-Eye's death during the Second War. He served as Minister of Magic for nine years-and has been Dean of Lufkin for over a decade. He lives a life of integrity and those around him know he is reliable and trustworthy. Further, he is confident in his decisions and has a warm assertiveness that encourages others to follow his guidance and instruction. He is an excellent judge of character--and trusts on the basis of his knowledge of a person's character and abilities, nothing else.

Muggle Friendly: Despite being a Pureblood, Kingsley has mastered the knack of dressing and acting a Muggle. This has long been the case. His ability to integrate into nonmagical society led to him being assigned to guard the Muggle Prime Minister during the Second Wizarding War.

Communication: Kingsley is an articulate, eloquent speaker. He chooses he words carefully--and listens with just as much care. During his years an auror, he excelled at drawing information from witnesses and suspects alike. As Minister and Dean, he has delivered countless moving speeches. Not only does he excel at communication in his professional life, but this carries over into his interpersonal relationships, as well.

Objectivity: Kingsley is a faithful and devoted individual, but never think this has made him into a blindly loyal man. He has always and does still act on his own judgment instead of waiting for orders. He never fears speaking his mind. During the Second Wizarding War, he joined the Order of the Phoenix despite the Ministry's oppression, swiftly acting to modify Marietta Edgecombe's memories in secret simply by looking at the situation at hand, and stood forward to warn Dolores Umbridge not to manhandle students. At the same time, he was skilled in maintaining a facade to the corrupt Ministry to hide his own agenda from them, such as giving the appearance of devoting himself to hunt down Sirius.
weaknesses
Oralee: You have bewitched me body and soul, and I love, I love, I love you.

His family: Family is not an important thing. It's everything.

Bourbon: Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whiskey is barely enough.

Injustice: Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.
positive traits
Honesty and Integrity:  The supreme quality of leadership is unquestionably integrity.

Ability to Inspire Others:  If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.

Commitment and Passion for Justice: The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference. The opposite of art is not ugliness, it's indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it's indifference. And the opposite of life is not death, it's indifference.

Confidence: Confidence comes from discipline and training.

Good Communicator:  Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. We can choose to use this force constructively with words of encouragement, or destructively using words of despair. Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate and to humble.

Level-Headed and Calm: Remain calm, serene, always in command of yourself.

Creativity: Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.

Empathy: When people talk, listen completely. Most people never listen.
negative traits
Overprotective: This is the tragedy...with [the] overprotective, those trying to help are often hurting us the most.

Stubborn: Stubbornness and ignorance and determination are a very fine line from each other.

Difficulty Admitting Mistakes (aka his divorce): Mistakes are always forgivable, if one has the courage to admit them.

Quick to Make Big Decisions (leaving the DoJ, getting a divorce):  It is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped.

Cynical*: Every ounce of my cynicism is supported by historical precedent.

character history
Kingsley was the only son and child of a curious alchemist and justice seeking auror. Close to both his parents, Kingsley had a good childhood. Values and ethics were instilled in him from birth.  He was taught to be fair.  His father impressed discipline onto to his son--urging King to never be quick to anger. Kingsley was taught to judge a person never based on heritage, sexuality, or age, but on character and ability. He never forgot the lessons of his childhood--and eternally seeks to embody the man that his father taught him to be.

When he was only a boy, the First Wizarding War began. A decade the struggle ran. Ackerley worked long and dangerous hours, but never failed to be a father to his children. Duties to the Shacklebolt family always came first--just sometimes Ackerley's primary duty to the family was to be a protector against the dark forces that threatened their way of life. Kingsley deeply admired his father for the work he did--and aspired to follow him into a career of serving and protecting their society.

The war was still raging when Kingsley started Hogwarts. Like Ackerley before him, Kingsley was a Ravenclaw during his years at Hogwarts. He was a disciplined and motivated student. The wizard was always curious to learn--a trait that has stayed with him all of his life.  It was during his time as a student he met James Potter. Lily and James were Head Boy and Girl during his third year. While he was younger than them, he still managed to get to know James. He really admired James as a leader and Sirius for bucking the Black purist prejudices.

Kingsley would have joined the Order of the Phoenix during the First Wizarding War, but in October of his seventh year, the Potters died and Voldemort vanished. It was a rough time for the entire wizarding world. They all had to start rebuilding. When he graduated---top of his class, of course, with seven NEWTS (six being Outstandings, thank you very much, and one measly Exceeds Expectation in bloody Transfiguration),  Kingsley had every intention to follow his father's example and join the Auror Training Program and serve alongside their father.

Ackerley had different plans for his son. His father had been nudging him for years towards another career path--one with less danger and a more standard schedule. Ackerley communicated to his boy that it was not enough to catch criminals--they needed to be effectively prosecuted, as well. Further, the first born son of a pureblooded line would eventually be destined for the Wizengamot. Ackerley wanted his son prepared for this task.

So, Kingsley went to law school. He studied both political science and law at Lufkin. As he had during his tenure at Hogwarts, the man excelled in his studies and was diligent in his commitment to master the law. In his final year of study, Kingsley served as a teaching assistant, teaching first year criminal law and second year legal research. Even with his duties as a teaching assistant, the wizard secured the coveted spot of Valedictorian.

His certification exam went smoothly--and before his birthday that year, he was already practicing law. Kingsley never perused private practice. He immediately joined the Criminal Division at the Ministry. His sister was killing it with capturing Death Eaters--and just the same he was knocking it out of the park with his conviction rates. Kingsley was an incredible prosecutor. His confidence and dedication to research made up for his junior. He gave everything to the job--Ackerley had wanted Kingsley to start a family, but instead the wizard was giving eighty hours a week to the justice system.

He would have kept at it, too...but a good friend got injured. He did not like that one bit. He should have been there to protect her. So while his friend was out recovering, he resigned from the Department of Justice and joined the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. He was six months into his training with she was supposed to come back. She didn't, but Kingsley never regretted his decision to leave the DoJ. He had big shoes to fill and lived in the shadow of his father's infamy for awhile, but in time, he proved himself to be just as much of an auror as his old man.

Work as an auror was long hours, but not nearly what he put in during his stint in the Criminal Division. Kingsley moved up the ranks and ultimately was assigned to lead the task force for the recapture of Sirius Black. When rumour of Lord Voldemort's return was denied by the Ministry, Kingsley was convinced of his return, and subsequently joined the Order of the Phoenix. Along with Nymphadora Tonks, he worked as a covert operative, keeping the Order supplied with information. In addition, since joining the reactivated Order, Kingsley was informed of Black's innocence as a fellow member of the Order, and so he sidetracked the investigation by feeding the Ministry disinformation that indicated Black was hiding in Tibet. In the Summer of 1995, after Harry Potter was attacked by two dementors Kingsley volunteered to be a member of the Advance Guard. The Advance Guard were to escort Harry to the Order's Headquarters at 12 Grimmauld Place in London.

During the Second Wizarding War, Kingsley was also present at many dinners that took place at Grimmauld place. He was also at the Ministry on the day of Harry's hearing to answer the charge of using a Patronus Charm in front of his Muggle cousin, on 12 August, and staged an argument with fellow Order member Arthur Weasley to protect their covers as Rufus Scrimgeour was asking questions. During the argument, he slipped Arthur a copy of The Quibbler containing an article that he thought Sirius would find amusing — an article that claimed Sirius was actually Stubby Boardman. He later attended the party at Grimmauld Place to celebrate Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger's appointment as Prefects.

In 1996, Kingsley accompanied Cornelius Fudge, John Dawlish, and Fudge's assistant Percy Weasley to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to confront Albus Dumbledore over Dolores Umbridge's discovery of Dumbledore's Army. Despite his loyalty to the Order, Kingsley was forced to play along with the Minister, although he was able to place a Memory Charm on Marietta Edgecombe to stop her divulging any more secrets regarding Dumbledore's Army, and to agree with Dumbledore's version of events; upon Umbridge attacking Marietta for her sudden change in testimony, Kingsley stood forward to warn Umbridge. During Dumbledore's escape, Kingsley was incapacitated along with the Minister, Dawlish, and Umbridge to maintain his cover, an action that Dumbledore regretted but deemed necessary.

In 18 June 1996, Harry was duped into going to the Department of Mysteries on the pretence that Sirius Black was being held captive. Kingsley, along with Nymphadora Tonks, Alastor Moody, Remus Lupin, and Sirius Black, travelled to the Ministry to rescue Harry and several of his friends. In the ensuing battle, Kingsley began duelling two Death Eaters at once, then faced Augustus Rookwood. Late in the battle, Kingsley duelled with Bellatrix Lestrange just after she had sent Sirius through the Veil. Kingsley was injured in the duel, falling to the ground with a scream, but recovered from his injuries.

With the return of Lord Voldemort now publicly acknowledged, Rufus Scrimgeour replaced Cornelius Fudge as Minister for Magic. Fudge was overthrown by the outraged wizarding public after they learned the truth. Following the unsuccessful attempt to place the Imperius Curse on Muggle Junior Minister Herbert Chorley, it was decided that the Muggle Prime Minister needed protection.

In 1996 Kingsley was assigned to the Prime Minister as a bodyguard, posing as his new secretary. Kingsley's portrayal of a Muggle convinced the Prime Minister, who was shocked to learn the truth from Scrimgeour several days later. The Prime Minister considered him an excellent secretary, capable of doing twice the work of his predecessor. Despite his assignment to the Muggle Prime Minister, Kingsley did attend the funeral of Albus Dumbledore in July 1997.

With Dumbledore's death, and the Second Wizarding War in full swing, the Order's attention turned to protecting Harry Potter. With the protection he had at the 4 Privet Drive due to expire on his seventeenth birthday, a plan was formed to break the protection early and escort him to safety at the Burrow. Although still assigned to protect the Muggle Prime Minister, Kingsley was chosen to speak with the Dursleys, as his ability to act and dress like a Muggle would offend them less, and he informed them that they too would have to go into hiding for their protection.

On 27 July, Kingsley was part of the Order task force sent to escort Harry to safety. Acting as a protector, he rode a Thestral with Hermione Granger disguised as Harry by way of the Polyjuice Potion. During the subsequent battle, Kingsley and Hermione were chased by five Death Eaters, injuring two and possibly killing one. They were also briefly chased by Lord Voldemort himself after he murdered Alastor Moody, but he broke off the pursuit once the real Harry was located. His house was one of a dozen safe houses used to confuse the Death Eaters, so that they would be less likely to figure out the real destination to which Harry was being spirited away.

Kingsley and Hermione finally made it back to the Burrow, and Kingsley believed that their plan had been betrayed, challenging Remus Lupin with a personal question to ensure his identity. Satisfied, he relayed his news — including the fact that Lord Voldemort could fly unaided — to the rest of the Order that had returned, and waited anxiously for the others. Eventually, though, Kingsley was forced to leave the Burrow and return to his duty guarding the Prime Minister. He was unable to help Remus and Bill search for Mad-Eye's body, as he needed to report back to the Ministry straight away.

On 1 August, 1997, the Ministry of Magic fell to Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters. Where Kingsley was on that day, either at the Ministry or still guarding the Prime Minister, is unknown. However, he was aware of the events, and sent his lynx Patronus to the Burrow to warn the guests at Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour's wedding of what had occurred. His warning allowed Harry, Hermione, and Ron Weasley to escape the reception without notice.

Kingsley continued to work for the Ministry of Magic following the death of Rufus Scrimgeour, much like other members of the Order such as Arthur Weasley. However, he was forced on the run after he broke the Taboo about saying Lord Voldemort's name, and had to fight off several Death Eaters. He went into hiding, but remained active in the resistance effort, contributing to the Potterwatch radio broadcast under the alias of Royal, urging Wizards to help protect Muggle neighbours and to keep faith during dark times.

In May of 1998, Kingsley was alerted to the coming battle at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Apparated to the Hog's Head, and travelled to the school through the secret tunnel joining it to the Room of Requirement. Arriving in the Great Hall, he consulted with Minerva McGonagall and took charge of the situation, dividing the available fighters into groups and assigning them to defend certain areas of the school.

He, along with Arthur Weasley and Remus Lupin, led groups of fighters into the school grounds to intercept the enemy. Shortly before the Acromantula entered Hogwarts, Kingsley duelled a masked Death Eater while Flitwick duelled Yaxley beside him. Remus was last seen battling Dolohov. Kingsley also fended off dementors after they entered the battle having allied with Lord Voldemort and his army.

Towards the end of the battle, after Lord Voldemort displayed an apparently dead Harry to the defenders of the castle and Neville Longbottom had slayed Nagini, Kingsley, along with Minerva McGonagall and Horace Slughorn, duelled Voldemort in the Great Hall. After Molly Weasley killed Bellatrix Lestrange, Voldemort screamed in rage and blasted all three of them backwards. When Voldemort attempted to kill Molly, Harry cast a Shield Charm then revealed himself, took up the battle, and killed Voldemort for good.

During that fateful battle, Kingsley's life was saved by a fellow Order Member--one Oralee Parr...a young woman who he had noticed the beauty of before, but had no time to linger on such thoughts. What happened next, she tells well:

When the Battle was over she had lost her brother. Oliver lay dead at her feet at the hands of one of the faceless, nameless masses that had descended upon them. The only one of her family present she grieved for Oliver alone. At least until she felt the hand on her shoulder and looked up into the pair of deep, dark eyes, that belonged to Kingsley Shacklebolt. He thanked her, and held her for a moment before moving on to help Minerva with the aftermath of the Battle. After the war when Kingsley became Minister Oralee didn’t go back to Manchester and the library. They had offered to take her back in a heartbeat, but she chose to stay in London instead.

At 29 years old Oralee took a job in the upper offices of the Ministry, as Kingsley’s Undersecretary in fact. She worked for him for a few months before the pair started dating. They moved in together and were married within the year. It didn’t feel rushed, it felt completely natural. Their first child, Bryan, was born in January of 2000, just days after her 30th birthday. When the baby was born Oralee left her job at the Ministry in order to stay home and raise their family. She didn’t sit idle though. While she was home, she started researching. Late 2001 was a busy time for the Shacklebolt family. Oralee gave birth to their second son, Oliver, and she published her first book.

Their daughter Josephine, was born in 2006, and by that time Oralee had published two more books, while raising their growing family. 2007 saw a year of hardships and pain for the Shacklebolt family. Kingsley was ousted from his office as Minister, and Durant took over. Claiming that both her then husband, and their dear family friend Harry Potter were both insane. Oralee had a harder time taking it quietly than Kingsley did. She did not want him to back down without one hell of a fight, and she was vocal about her opinions on the matter.

Not one to take things sitting down, Oralee has made no secret of her dislike for Isaiah Durant, and openly detested Elena Hopkins as well. She was still refusing to still idly by and do nothing, but she had gotten better at controlling herself over the years. She worked in Diagon Alley, managing Flourish and Blotts, after the end of the Kingsley’s time as Minister. They got along fine enough over the years, but things changed in the summer of 2016. The Shacklebolts had adopted a young girl, Audrey, in the spring, and Oralee had made a habit of having both she, and Josie, with her in the shop. When the Death Eaters attacked Diagon Alley that day Oralee had gotten the worse end of a curse. The nerves in her left arm are destroyed, partially. She can move the limb, use it. But it doesn’t feel.

After that, Kingsley made a decision. A decision he regrets every day. He pushed Oralee away. He did this to protect her. He firmly believed that Flourish and Blotts had been attacked to send him a message. He received it loud and clear. He was not going to let the brave, beautiful woman that he loved so much be in danger because of him. So, they divorced.

When Durant had pushed him out of the Ministry, Kingsley had not been interested in going back into law. He believed every one deserved a fair defense, but he could not be the one to stand and defend someone he knew to be guilty. So, he wrote.  First, a book on leadership--that w as published and he started working on his second book. Just as he finished The Legal Ideology of Just Punishment, the wizard was recruited by the Board of Directors for his alma mater. The school's dean was retiring. Kingsley accepted the role.

After his divorce, he still wanted to keep an eye on Oralee. So, when meeting with the directors of the various departments, he strongly encouraged them to accept the application his ex-wife had placed to teach at the school. The woman was undeniably qualified: a published author, multilingual, and educated at Lufkin. She was a perfect fit to join the staff. He knew she would promote the sort of culture he believed in at the university. He peaks in on her lectures sometimes--but always with his hood drawn, keeping to the shadows. He is so proud of her. He believes what he did was in her best interest and for her safety, but he misses his wife and his family deeply.

The surprise attack on Diagon Alley struck the conscience of the man deeply. When he learned that Harry and Hermione intended to start The Rising Phoenix Project. He was eager to contribute. Contributing both of his time and his coin, Kingsley first served on the organization's Board of Directors as the Director of Financial Services. He was not educated in finance, but as Minister and Dean, he was well versed in budgetary constraints and design. He was honored  to be part of the organization.

The shift of regime from Durant to Wentzell put the man on edge. He feared that history was set to repeat itself. The muggleborn laws outraged and disgusted him. When Hermione was forced to go on the run, he stepped up as Vice President on The Rising Phoenix Project Board of Directors. This is not a promotion that he welcomed, but he carries on the tasks that need to be done in her absence.

Over the years, Kingsley has known what he perceives to be many different renditions of Andromeda Black. He does not know what to think of this current one. He respects his Assistant Dean--and knows the woman serves as Advisor to the Minister. Though not a highly suspicious man, he does wonder if Isolde acts as a spy for the purist regime on his campus.

Earlier this year, a student--unknown to him at this time--defaced the library on campus, replacing Hermione's name with that of Bellatrix Black. Kingsley set the building to right as soon as it came to his notice. He has been careful with his speech, but it is still well known and clear when speaking with the man that he does not believe muggleborns to be lesser. He stands by his policies of equality and justice--promoting those virtues to all those he knows.

family history
Ackerley Shacklebolt was born in London, England, the oldest of three children, the others being Caspian and Juliette. They were a pureblood family, based in England for the last couple of centuries, but originally hailing from the Caribbean. They had been pureblood even well before their arrival to England, the name heavily entrenched in the tribal magic of the seas, although those traditions were watered down upon the move to the Isles. Pureblood tradition was not on their minds, though. Not as much as the need to go above and beyond, to become outstanding members of the magical society, and to be fair and ambitious. Most Shacklebolts are Ravenclaws, although you're sure to find some ambitious Slytherins in the mix. Ackereley, himself, attended Hogwarts as a Ravenclaw, after which he decided to become an Auror and worked for the British Ministry of Magic for most of his life, until retiring to the Wizengamot at the age of 70.

Miriama Urquart was born in Paris, France, the only daughter of Ibrahim Urquart and Aïssatou Kama. Both the Urquart and Kama families were old pureblood families. The Kamas were of French-African of Senegalese ancestry. As such, Kamas had been predominantly educated at Uagadou School of Magic.. Miriama was no different. Despite having spent much of her childhood in France, she was sent to her mother's ancestral home for the year leading up to her schooling.  Miriama excelled at Uagadou before going on to complete a degree in Alchemy at the University of Bangor. She met the man that would become her husband in London. They were a truly intellectual and curious pair. It has made for a fine life for them and their son.

Kingsley was not a member of the original Order of Phoenix, but he joined the reconstituted Order of the Phoenix in 1995 after being convinced of the return of Lord Voldemort. He is a member of the current Order of the Phoenix, as well.

Kingsley had and does still have a good relationship with the members of the all renditions of the Order of the Phoenix and their allies. He considers Harry James Potter, Hermione Jean Potter, and the lot of the Weasley family as friends. He was very close to Alastor Moody and Nymphadora Tonks before their deaths.  He also counts/counted the other members of the Advance Guard friends and trusted allies. This included Elphias Doge, Dedalus Diggle, Emmeline Vance, and Sturgis Podmore.

*Kingsley was not always cynical. The repetition of hate and violence in the wizarding world has caused him to develop this trait with age. He wants deeply to believe that justice will prevail, but he keeps seeing evil rise up again and again. He saw hate in Durant. He saw hate in Wentzell. It pains him, because he believes deeply in equality and fairness for all wizards and Muggles.
