What was in my brownie?
@lexi
After a constant downward spiral, things were finally starting to look up for Kit. He was enjoying his new internship and doing relatively well in classes, things with Gen were improving and as were things with Mandy. On top of that, he was going to have a baby brother or sister. So many good things had come after all of the shit he'd had to deal with since September, Kit's drinking had even gone down; admittedly he did still drink a lot, but nowhere near as bad as he had when he'd first found out about Saphira from Mandy. He'd even started talking to Gen and his parents about how he was feeling instead of keeping it to himself and that in turn meant that he could offer a shoulder to Mandy when she needed comfort. It was slow progress, but Kit would take it over everything else.

Kit had finished his internship at the Ministry for the day and he had decided to stop off for a sweet treat before heading back to the school; he'd decided to treat Mandy to some cake as well, but right now he wanted to have a slice to eat, he was famished and it probably wasn't ideal as a meal, but he hoped that he'd be able to catch the last little bit of dinner at the castle. He ordered two slices of fudge cake, one for now and for later and a slice of red velvet cake for Mandy before taking a seat at a table near the door. Unloosening his tie he slumped a little in the seat and lay back against the back of it, watching people pass by until the waitress brought his warm fudge cake and he eagerly dug in, his attention was on the cake and how quickly he could eat it and savour it that he wasn't even aware of people coming and going from the cakery.

He wasn't sure how long his focus was on his cake when the sound of the tinkling bell above the door finally caught his attention, he wasn't sure why this time was so different but when he looked up, he felt his jaw drop and his grip on his spoon became slack and clattered to the plate as he stared at the witch stood in the entrance; Kit hadn't known what had happened to the witch after that disastrous dance, all he knew was that she'd been taken away and that was the last he'd heard of her; no letters, no contact, he'd even tried to find out if she'd been at Pyxis but had quickly found out that wasn't the case at all so he'd, naturally, been worrying about her. "Lexi?" Kit said, his voice shaking a little, he had no doubt that he probably looked like he'd seen a ghost, but as far as Kit was concerned, it was almost the case, if Lexi hadn't been in front of him in the flesh and blood, he wouldn't have believed that she was alive and okay.

Pushing Me Away

Every Last Word

Every Single Thing You Say

Coming back to England after everything had been both the best thing and the worst thing since the first time she had ever come to England. Just when she thought she had the floor back under her feet and knew what her lot in life was, the rug had been ripped from under her and she was once more back on her arse wondering what the heck was going on. Casper was here, though. Jon was here. But so were all the people who wanted her dead and so were all the reasons she'd decided to run away with Bell back to France in the first place. Things were so... alien, yet so familiar. She could hear her french accent was back tenfold whenever she spoke to Tabitha Mercer, the wonderful mademoiselle who had taken her into her home and seemed rather happy in doing so. Trying to be around people again, even though she couldn't be seen, was utterly terrifying. But she wouldn't be Lexi if she let that stop her. Wouldn't be a Gryffindor. And a house always boiled down to four stone walls, regardless of how well furnished and decorated their interior was.

So she'd tried something small. Ish. Go for something to eat while Tabby was out doing her do and the house was virtually empty. She didn't know why she still felt so weird being there on her own when the older witch went out... but it wasn't like she could go with her wherever she went. She wasn't a child anymore. And it wasn't safe. Yet the threat against her life had her leaving her safe haven regardless. Hadn't she already been to see Walker and Ruby, before things went sour? She had this. It was a piece of cake. Hah. Finally, she knew where she was going to try and eat.

The money that Jon had managed to smuggle to her was meager, but she still made sure to count out her exact total into her hands as she approached the door of the bakery nonetheless. She couldn't overspend as either Tabby would try to help her out or Jon would. Casper would likely have an aneurysm if he clocked that Lexi had taken to leaving the house to take walks in London - albeit in the shadows and back alleys where no one would look for her - on her own. But what could a girl do? She had tried staying indoors and safe back in Calais, and had kept that up for over six months before her first trek outside the Sanctuary. This time... this time she couldn't do it. She knew where that road led her to and it was too dark for her to walk alone again. She had to do what she had to do even if it was eventually going to kill her. Live fast, die young, take no prisoners. That was her every motto in life. And hadn't she been doing that? All but the dying part? It was her friends that had died in her absence. The ones she had left behind. Gone forever...

The blonde flinched at the bell that tinkled above the door that she pushed open with a sleeve covered hand, sidling sideways through the gap and quietly closing it behind her. She daren't lower her hood in case someone else came in and spotted her, but at the most part she didn't see any immediate threats. So she took in a deep breath, tucked her hair behind her ears, and made to take a further step inwards when a loud exclamation and the clattering of cutlery on china had her head whipping to the side so fast that it cracked, and she all but felt her soul leave her body at the ghost that had cried her name. Death Eater? Was she about to die this soon?! Immediately, her entire body began to shake, her chin quivering as she backed up towards the wall behind her with arms stretched behind her to find it, shaking her head as her teeth sank into her lip. No. No. There was no way she was hallucinating this soon into near solitude again. Hell no. But she had to be because... this?! This was impossible! Impossible.

"... Sacré bleu..." she whispered, eyes bright and wild as her hand unconsciously patted the pocket where her wand should have been. Should have been, had this bloody epidemic X not reached her in the sanctuary and wrested her magic from her. "No. No.." Lexi's hand rose and pointed at him fiercely, shaking in the open air between them. The others in the room melted into the background, her gaze never leaving the familiar planes of his face. She'd drawn him, in the past. All she had had were those drawings... pictures of him destroyed the day she had left by the Death Eaters who abducted her from the castle. In her pocket with the other faded photos that had kept her going, was the clipping of his obituary that had held a tiny, square picture of him. Now here he was. An apparition. Staring at her in abject horror and shock. "Ça ne peut pas être. You are dead! Non! Who are you? Why are you doing this?!"
