INSURRECTION SITE RULES
LAST UPDATED: 1 AUGUST 2018
Prior to joining Insurrection, it is important to skim read all of our site's rules. We have hopefully made this organized enough that it is all rather self-explantory and definitely feel free to PM anyone on administration if you have any questions whatsoever.

As a member, also remember (ha, member, remember) these rules. Sometimes we might forget them, which is a-okay, but everyone on the site is subject to the same rules, new member or someone who has been with us for day one. If administration PMs you about rule-breaking, we promise we aren't going to Crucio you! We are well aware that sometimes things just happen; sometimes rules are forgotten, or something is unclear.

However, breaking rules on numerous occasions will eventually bring about official warnings, and potentially banning, depending on the rules. So please, read on and if you're new, welcome to Insurrection.

Rules are separated by section, hopefully to make it easier to get through!

I. General Site and Member Rules
II. Character Rules
III. Posting Rules

GENERAL SITE AND MEMBER RULES
LAST UPDATED: 1 AUGUST 2018
I. Respect is a must. This extends beyond Insurrection staff to every member on this site, regardless of how long/short of a time they have been part of the community.

II. Please keep in mind that at some point everyone was new to RP. If a new member is having issues, be patient and send a PM to an Admin so that we may assist.

III. We do not tolerate bullying, flaming, discrimination (religion, race, sexuality, etc), and general disrespect as stated above. This does include using characters to attack members, and let's be honest, it's never really all that subtle when that happens! So we will notice!

IV. We understand that people are closer to some members than other! It happens! However, try not to exclude or ignore anyone. If it begins to happen regularly, administration will PM members to let them know. We're sure most of the time you might not even realize it's happening, but we want to make sure everyone feels welcome!

V. Not everyone is going to agree on everything. There will be conflict at some points; however, it is not to bleed over into RPing. If the conflict escalates, an Admin will step in to come up with some kind of resolution to the issue.

VI. Role-playing is meant to be a form of entertainment, not stress. Remember to HAVE FUN and let staff handle the heavy stuff.

VII. Proboards rules prohibit anyone under the age of 13 to participate on these forums. There are absolutely NO EXCEPTIONS to this rule on Insurrection. If it is discovered that a member is underage and has lied on their registration, there will be an immediate ban without warning.

VIII. Every three months, we will have a site activity check. You will need to link one active thread per character. If you don't post in it at all, your accounts will be deleted! This is to make sure we aren't keeping people around who aren't active. If you rejoin after being deleted in an Activity Check, that is fine of course, but you cannot participate in site events until you are actively posting again -- more specifically, until you have posted ten times.

If you post in it but have some characters that do not have a linked active thread, they will be moved to the Inactive board and you will lose claim to their Face Claim and their job. During that first week of the next month, you cannot reclaim them. After that week is up, you can make them active again by posting. When you do, their job and face will be returned to them if still available. If someone snagged them, you will need to choose a new face and/or job for them! We will not accept anyone trying to guilt people into not claiming a face or a job that they want. If we hear anyone is doing this, you will be PMed by staff with a warning.

IX. Once you submit an idea and it is accepted onto Insurrection, and that idea or concept becomes integrated into site canon, you forfeit the right to ask for its removal upon the event of you leaving.

Remember, the staff on this site are here to help you. If you ever have a problem, don't hesitate to PM one of us, whomever you are most comfortable with. Any issues discussed will be kept confidential unless otherwise requested, and will be resolved discreetly.

CHARACTER RULES
LAST UPDATED: 6 MAY 2019
I. No crossovers! This is strictly a Harry Potter site, and no other fandoms are permitted. This includes heavily basing characters off of those from other books, movies, shows, etc. If something comes off as too similar, we will ask for changes to be made.

II. No Mary Sues or Gary Stus. No one is perfect, and this extends to characters.

III. Members are more than welcome to bring over any original characters that they may have created on Fan Fiction or other sites. However, it is very important that they might need to be altered slightly in accordance with site plot, and timeline.

IV. There is a character limit on Insurrection of 25 characters. The only people exempt to that are those who are already above 25 at the time of this rule being created (6 May 2019). But if you go under 25, you are not going to be allowed to go back above it, obviously!

V. Administration will sort student characters based on their applications. The only exception to this is if a member is creating a character that has already been sorted in the NPC Registrar. If a member creates a character and it doesn't appear to fit the house they have been sorted into in the NPC Registrar, then they will be asked to edit the app.

VI. Please do not pester administration to sort your application. We all have lives outside of the site, and we promise that administration will get to them as quickly as possible.

VII. Keep an eye on character bans when creating a character. If a ban is in place, we will not accept any new characters in those groups.

VIII. All characters must have ten in-character roleplaying posts, and two weeks must have passed, before any new character can be created. Posts, including letters, only count if they are at the word minimum of 250 IC words.

IX. A member can only have two in-progress applications at a time. If a third one is posted, it will be archived and you will have to remake it. This is because it clutters up New Character Registrations, and gives a member too many claims to play-bys!

X. If you are recreating your own deleted character, just make an account and post in the Resort board. We will pull the old applications from archives, and re-accept the character, no questions asked - except for in extenuating circumstances.

XI. If a member chooses to delete a character, no new characters of theirs will be accepted for two weeks.

XII. You must post with canon characters four times each month. This is now a strike system in place for canon characters. This is to avoid any member having more canons than they can actually use! We want people to be utilizing canon characters, especially if they are in demand! If you get a third strike, you will be PMed about character deletion - no exceptions! The three strike system involves you being able to remove your strikes by posting, and we find that to be very fair!

After deletion, if anyone expressed interest in that canon they have first dibs on making them! If you are interested in ever remaking them yourself, then you must go three months without any canon character on AR. If they were your only canon, then you still have to wait three months to give someone else an opportunity to make them! We will not accept any guilting of members to prevent them from making a canon if they want them. If we hear that anyone has, you will be PMed by staff with a warning.

XII. If you are interested in making a canon character, or a next generation canon character, please PM administration first to let us know. That way, we can tell you if there are any headcanons that have already been decided on the site. Some of this can be found on the available canons page, but definitely PM us just in case there is more!

XIV. Please note that there are a limited number of 'power positions,' namely character positions like professors, shop owners, and department heads. If at any time, a member has an excessive amount of these finite positions, administration can deny an application pending a change in job.

XVI. The official age for Hogwarts professors and university professors will be thirty years old. The official age for Peverell Primary school will be 25 years old, and Centre School is 20 years old.

XVII. Accepting of face claims will be at staff's discretion. If we deem someone to be inappropriate in any way for a particular person to represent your character, Admin Morgan will PM you explaining why we cannot accept the play-by.

POSTING RULES
LAST UPDATED: 1 AUGUST 2018
I. Posts are to be written in third person, past tense. The exceptions to this rule include the Owl Post and the Character Journals sections. (Ex. Jackie walked into the classroom, late as always).

II. Bear in mind when role-playing that the characters being RPed are not the only ones that exist. For realism, for instance, your character isn't going to walk into the Great Hall for dinner and be the first one there, in a feast thread. Please post as such.

III. No god-moding. God-moding can be killing or harming another character without the creator's explicit permission, or it can be writing for a character that is not your own. You are not at liberty to control another character's thoughts or actions. This goes for dueling as well. You cannot say that a spell hit your opponent, you have to first give them the opportunity to block.

IV. No meta-gaming. In roleplay, metagaming is described as using out-of-character knowledge in roleplay thoughts, actions, or behaviors. It is important to keep member knowledge out of in-character interactions, and to realize what your character would and would not know.

V. All in-character RP posts need to be at least 250 words. This is just so that we are all working on constantly improving our writing, and so that we are giving members enough to reply to with our posts.

VI. Please do no double-post, posting two times in a row with the same character on any thread or group thread.

VII. For any sensitive plots that are bordering the line of what is considered insensitive for Proboards, staff is at liberty to deny a plot if we think that it could make people uncomfortable.

VIII. On that same spectrum, there are some plots that are okay, but that an occasional person will not be okay with due to personal reasons. Because of that, we ask that you put a TW on any posts/threads that some people might not want to come across. This can be in the title, or just in the starting post, whichever way is best! These could be topics such as: war, abuse, self-harming behavior, eating disorders, bullying, strong language, miscarriage, violence, drug use.

IX. Any plots that deal with killing another character must be agreed upon with both parties, and Admin Morgan needs to be PM'ed ahead of time. If staff feels it is not believable for a certain character to take a life, or if it is a mass murder type of deal, we reserve the right to deny the request.

X. If a character is in a position of power, whether they are within Hogwarts as a professor, prefect, head of house, etc; or an adult working in a higher up position like head auror, supreme mugwump, etc., abuses their power (outside of plot), they may lose their title without warning. It is not fun to play with a character on a random power trip if it's not justified.

XI. If you have a character in a high-level position, you can lose said position due to inactivity. For instance, if you have the head of a Ministry department, and don't post with them often, we may ask you to change your character's job to open up the position for someone who would utilize it more.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the date on Insurrection?

It is present day! Days pass by as normal, so whatever day you come onto the site, that's what day, month, year it is!

Help! I can't get my character's song to work! How do I do it?

So I know what a lot of people automatically assume, and that's that you can use a youtube video, or something like that, to get your song link. Unfortunately, it doesn't work like that. You need a code that will end in a .mp3, and to do that, all you need to do is upload the song you want to this site. It is a free site, though you do have to make an account! You use the direct hotlink code!

How do I put up my character's 250x400 picture?

All you have to do for that is look for the pencil icon that you see in the very top, right in the fixed navigation menu bar. It's right next to your logout button. That pencil icon will take you directly to your Personal settings. When you scroll down, you will see a box for 250x400 Avatar. Just put the link in there!

What do I put under Played By?

This is a commonly misunderstood blank on the Mini Profile! We don't want your celebrity, we want your Alias! That way, people know what member plays the character easier!

How do I make a new character account?

Not everyone has experience with proboards, so I'll make it short and sweet. Bottom right corner you'll see three little icons. The first one on the left you click, and then you click Create a new account on this forum.

How do I get posting?

We recommend checking out open threads! Or heading over to plotters to post your own and look at others! Note that you cannot join someone else's thread unless it's an open thread! If someone is tagged in a thread, it is closed!
