Every tear, every fear

Gone with the thought of you

Changing what I thought I knew

I'll be yours for a thousand lives

@penelope
It was silly, that he had spent so much time away from the woman that he loved, and that he had been so stupid that he had not been able to see that she was pretty much the only woman that he wanted to be with in the entire world. Of course, cheating on Jessica had not been any part of the plan, but he could not say the he regretted that night. It had been a sign that they were ready. Sometimes love needed to be put on pause and it had taken him far too long to realize any of it. Ten years too long honestly, but he was making the effort now, he was trying. He loved Penelope and she was worth every single ounce of effort that he was going to be putting in.

He bought both the promise ring and the engagement rings before Christmas, because he knew what he wanted. He had owled his bride earlier in the day once all of the plans were being made. He would propose at dinner, and they would spend a day or so in Paris. The kids were still at school and he had a surprise wedding to plan out for her, Terrianne was already working furiously to get it done in time and he was working over time to pay for it, but he was not neglecting the Order, or Penny this time. He knew where he stood this go round and he was not going to give an inch.

His hair was styled and he wore one of his best suits. He was waiting at the Eiffel Tower so that she had time to change and he had plans for this to be so romantic. There was a small café nearby that sold the best food, and he knew she would like it. Owls had been sent to make this a perfect Valentine’s Day for Penny, one that she would never forget, because she simply deserved nothing less and he was making up for lost time. This was something that she had wanted for a long time. What a better time to do it?

You’ve Got Me Now
Paris — the city of love.

As a little girl, Penny had always dreamed that she would travel with her one-day husband. She had memories of wishing for a Prince Charming and a knight in shining armor. There was a part of her that even believed that it could have been Percy. But things changed after the twins were born.

They grew apart — their lives changed and soon, Percy and Penny were nothing more than co-parents. It was a cold existence. One that was born of resentment and sadness. Over those years, Penny could barely bring herself to look at him when they passed each other in the hallways at Lufkin or even when they glanced in the other’s direction in the foyer of their duplex. He had been her heart…she had wanted so much more from him and at that point in their lives, he had been incapable of giving it to her.

But, things were shifting again, this time, in their favor. Percy had been nothing but doting, kind, and caring since they had begun working things out. He put her first — he put the kids first. He was a changed man and, since she had given him a second chance, was beginning to see the man that she had fallen in love with once again.

Standing there, in the grassy courtyard, all Penny could do was look up into the night sky. The tower before her was beautiful — bigger than she had imagined in her wildest dreams. The lights sparkled in the night air, almost like stars…but much closer. Close enough to touch. It was almost as if the world was telling here that the impossible could be reached. And when she stood here — when she looked around at where she was and what was happening — she believed it.

As her eyes finally came back down to the horizon, she saw a familiar face standing a few meters away. Penny’s heart gave a small little jump — like a shock running through her system. There was something about her ex-husband. Something about him standing underneath the Eiffel Tower waiting for her that made her feel like a giddy teenager sneaking off to the Trophy Room for a snog. Merlin’s Beard, he made her feel like a kid again… Walking towards him, she shoved her hands into the pockets of her jacket, trying to cut some of the winter wind around them. “Bonjour, Mister Weasley.” She grinned at him, using her hip to bump against his as she craned her neck and offered him a sweet, simple kiss on the cheek.

“So, you’ve brought me all the way to Paris…you got me here… Now what?” She asked, leaning into him slightly.

Love was never an option.

It had been his life philosophy, his work was always the most important thing. During the second war it had almost cost him his family, years later it had cost him dearly. He had lost the love of his life because he had made the wrong thing a priority and never done what he could to make her see that she was his everything. She had been miserable, but change was never something that he was good at, but now he was doing what he could to prove that he meant it this time.

Too many years had passed in bitter silence, in an awkward hatred formed by both of them being too stubborn to do anything about the way that they felt. It was stupid and he had had to be in a relationship with someone else for him to be able to see that Penny was the only one that he wanted to be with. She was beautiful, and the perfect person for him. It was Valentine’s day and he wasn’t about to give up on this he was going to show her that he loved her and that this meant a lot to him. He was getting a second chance, a chance to get it right this time an he was not going to mess it up this time.

When she bumped him with her hip he couldn’t help but grin at her and then took in a deep breath, sighing happily, an arm going about her before leaning down to press a long slow kiss to her lips. Percy had never been one for public displays of affection, but there were times when it was called for, times when he needed to throw his rules away and just be happy. She made him want to be happy, she made him want to be so many things than what he was. He loved her, so much more than words could say.

”Well, we’re having dinner at a Café across the square, but I thought we could spend some time around here and enjoy the scenery and the time we have. Since we’ve no need to rush.” For once they didn’t have to worry about getting back to their kids, or to their jobs. They could just be and that made him happy. This was what his life should have been like all along. It was a coordinated dance of things that he had planned, and the first part was coming up, the lady with the basket of roses came up to him and he bought a lily and a rose before handing the to her with a small smile and then kissed her again before walking them towards where their pictures would be taken.
