[attr="class","cbody"]There had never been any doubt in her mind what she wanted to do with her life. She had always known that it would be engineering. Even before she’d stepped foot in Hogwarts. Her father’s passion for his career had been what had drawn her in, and over the years that had only grown. She could not imagine doing anything else. There had never been a time in her life when she’d even thought about doing anything else. She had other hobbies, of course—things that she did in the small amount of free time that she had outside of work, but those would remain hobbies. Not one of them was a passion like engineering had been, and she knew that Lucent was where she was supposed to be.
[break][break]
Working for her family had its shares of complications. There would always be people who thought that she had gotten to where she did today because of her blood and who she was to the important people in this company. But those people only had to work with her to know that that wasn’t true. Nora thought she’d proven many people wrong over the years—had proven to people that she had gotten to where she was because of her skill and nothing else. She had no problem setting people straight where that was concerned.
[break][break]
Nora was passionate about her work here. She would never do anything to jeopardize that. Her being a Carmody only went so far. If she did something absolutely inexcusable, she knew that it would force her aunt and her uncle’s hands, and that was not something that she wanted to have happen. Draco Malfoy was her colleague. She was, in a roundabout way, sort of his boss. Yes, she was the senior engineer of a division that he did not work in, but still. Doing anything inappropriate with him was just asking for trouble. If it got messy, a sexual harassment suit could come out of the woodwork. It might be more common for the man to be the one on the receiving end of that kind of lawsuit, but it being the other way around was not unheard of. And she was the one in a position of power. That definitely would make her entirely culpable. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.
[break][break]
There was just no way that her aunt and uncle could keep her on at the company if something like that happened. They wouldn’t be able to look the other way. If they did, it would so clearly be because of nepotism and because she was family. They would lose all credibility and they would never hear the end of it. If this got messy, if this crossed any lines, it could be very bad. A part of her knew that. Knew that it was totally and completely not worth it. It didn’t matter that she found him attractive. It didn’t matter what that damned smirk was doing to her, or the fact that he was clearly interested in her in return. She should definitely stop thinking about all of that. She needed to think about eating and getting back to work. Or maybe even calling it a night. That might be for the best. They could resume their work in the morning. When it was daylight, and there were people around that would stop her from acting on impulse.

Instead, she found that every word that she spoke was just making it worse. Nora just couldn’t stop the little remarks from falling from her lips. Of course, her motives had nothing to do with money. She had money. But that implied that she did have motives, didn’t it? That was definitely not something that she should be saying, but it was way too late to go back now. “Good,” she answered, her gaze still safely on the pizza. She shouldn’t push any further, but she found herself speaking again. “So, you admit you have motives then…” She raised her eyebrows at him as she finally looked up. She was tempted to ask him just what those were, but that was just venturing into very dangerous territory.
[break][break]
There were still lines that she probably shouldn’t cross, though every sip of her beer made those a little less clear. What was really the worst that could happen? He was flirting too. This was not some uncomfortable one-sided thing. Not by a long shot. “Oh? Someone in my department then?” She was still all innocence as she spoke, as if she had no idea at all that he was definitely talking about her.
