((OOC: Donald's uniform))

The 11 year old felt very nervous ahead of his first ever flying lesson. Of course, Donald had used a toy broom in the past but the first year’s family couldn’t really afford a broomstick of their own and his older sister, Amy, was not very interested in flying herself. In fact she was somewhat scared of it. His Hufflepuff sibling had told him that flying was very hard and dangerous and this made the Ravenclaw boy feel especially nervous for his first flying lesson. Which was not very good. The little lad had read a lot about flying, of course he had, it was the only way a first year really could learn about flying prior to any lessons. Especially as they couldn’t own brooms, not that Donnie could of course.

The young boy did like…well love quidditch and had seen a few games of both the Welsh national team, and of his favourite regional side the Caerphilly Catapults, so it was not like he was not totally unaware of flying, nor the risks involved with it. Quidditch did look like a very dangerous game, but he enjoyed watching it and he was very interested in joying the Ravenclaw quidditch team in the next year or so. Although that depending on how much ne enjoyed flying, or if he was any good oat it. The thought did cross the mind of Don to ask the Ravenclaw quidditch team captain if he could be a water boy for the team in his first year, even if that sort of thing was even allowed, but he did not want to seem as being too desperate or come across like an annoying little kid. That would not be good at all.

The Welsh first year felt his heart racing in his little chest as he stood next to his broom. Donald looked with anticipation towards the flying Professor, they were giving a lecture on safe flying techniques which the Ravenclaw wizard was listening to with great interest. After all he did not want to crash during his first flying lesson and end up in the hospital wing, that would be most embarrassing.

When the Professor instructed him to do so the small boy put his hand over the school broomstick and said “Up” and his broomstick wobbled on the floor a bit. He frowned slightly wondering what he was doing wrong. Donnie looked around the rest of the class and was relieved to see that his classmates were mostly having similar difficulties in commanding their brooms. The Ravenclaw youngster supposed that it was to be expected as it was their first lesson and he guessed that it was the first time that the majority of them had ever commanded a broom before.

This time Don said ”Up” with a bit more confidence in his voice, a bit more commanding. The broom rose up towards his hand, but decided to give up about halfway and fell back towards the floor. Forgetting himself, the first year let out a bit of a frustrated noise before remembering that he was in a middle of class and looking around rather sheepishly. No-one seemed to be paying any attention towards him Feeling rather relieved the newbie decided to attempt for a third time to get his broom to his hand. ”UP” this time he spoke as if he meant it and the broom leapt up towards his hand.

Once everyone had their brooms in their hands the professor then described how to mount the broom. Donald thought that it looked a bit uncomfortable if he was honest, but all the same the young boy mounted the broom in any case. It was not as uncomfortable as he feared, actually, he found it to be somewhat more comfortable then he expected, and it felt a lot more natural than he expected too. In many ways floating just above the ground on the broomstick felt very natural to him. The Professor came around and congratulated him on successfully mounting his broom. Donnie felt his face begin to flush bright red. Still, he couldn’t help feeling a bit proud of himself. This was going well. The young Ravenclaw was excited about flying, he knew, just knew that he was going to enjoy it,,,
