Yeah, for fifteen minutes, we're a family again
God I wish that she was still with me again
Every other weekend

He had had a lot to think about lately, mainly the fact that the squeezing pain in his chest had changed from a true pain of agony to one of longing. He knew that he was an idiot beforehand because he had lost Ruby, but now holding those little girls like he had he knew even more that he was screwed. He didn't know what to do, or how to get them back. He didn't even know if he could ever get them back if she would ever want him back, but... he knew that he wanted that. He wanted it more than anything else in this world and... he was so tired of hurting her, of hurting himself but he had promised himself that he was never going to hurt Iris and Violet. He would never behave like this again. He would never hurt them like that, he would never push them away again. Ruby deserved better, and he knew it. She didn't need to spend the rest of her life wondering when he was going to go off the deep end and push her away again. She didn't need to wonder if he was going to get mad because she had a friend. No one needed to live that way, and he knew that she would be better off without him, but he knew that he still loved her.

He probably would never stop, but she had to do what was best for her now, and for their kids. Ruby had asked him if he wanted to be in the twin's life and had admitted that he did. He wanted to be there for everything. He wanted to see their first steps, be there for every milestone, every birthday, recital, and ever a time that they got on the train. He never wanted to be parted from them, but he didn't deserve it. Not after how he had treated their mother. But yet, here he was going to Sweet Peas to find the girls some cute outfits and maybe a 'mommy and me' outfit for the girls too. Diapers were probably needed too, but he didn't know what size to get them so he was standing there looking around at all of them as if he had no idea where he was but he was rather excited to be doing it.

"Good lord, thee is so much..."

I can't tell him

I love him

Having Walker helping Ruby with the twins had proved to be a huge relief. She loved doing everything for the twins, but it was incredibly difficult tending to two children alone he had taken a load off her; sure Caleb, Ezekiel and Hazel helped, but having Walker’s support meant just that little bit more than the others. Because of this change in the situation, the shift in him as a person had got the redhead thinking and it was both dangerous but crucial. He had proven to her that he really did want to change, he wasn’t just saying it to suck up to her and to try and get the girls in his care. Ruby still had her moments where she was worried about Walker, the questions that rose whenever she was around him. What if he reverted back to his old ways? What if he tried to control her? Tried to control the girls? She couldn’t let that happen to them, she’d rather die than let him emotionally tear their children down.

She couldn’t let those thoughts take over too much though, she was trying to spend time with Walker and their girls, to have some sort of family unit. No matter how temporary it may be but that was where her thoughts were coming in. He’d been doing so well though that Ruby had been considering giving him another chance, this time it was to do with her. She hadn’t spoken to anyone about her thoughts yet, instead, she’d been keeping it to herself but today, well, today she was going to speak to Walker. To give him an opportunity to have her and the twins for good. It would only be a month, but she knew Walker. If he was serious about how much he wanted her and the girls back, a month would be more than enough time. Ruby knew Caleb wouldn’t take her decision well, especially if Walker agreed to her suggestion but she couldn’t afford to be selfish, she loved Caleb; everyone who knew them knew that but she loved Walker too, and then on top of that, they did have daughters together and they deserved a solid family unit or an opportunity for that at least.

Ruby pushed the stroller down the middle of the shop shelves, glancing left and right for her ex when she finally spotted him in the nappy aisle and she approached him in time to hear his comment and she laughed a genuine giggle. ”There are but they’re all for different ages and sizes.” Ruby reached up on one of the shelves and smiled, picking up the right pack and she held them out to him. ”These ones, at the moment. Give it a couple of months though and it’ll probably change.” Ruby laughed. ”But for now, try and get these.” She tucked her hair behind her ear and begin to chew on her lip, a nervous habit that she hoped Walker would ignore. She wasn’t quite sure how to approach talking to him.

YEAH, FOR FIFTEEN MINUTES, WE'RE A FAMILY AGAIN
GOD I WISH THAT SHE WAS STILL WITH ME AGAIN
EVERY OTHER WEEKEND

Second chances were never a guaranteed thing, they were never set in stone, and as he had learned thanks to his parents a long time ago, it didn’t mean that you would get what you wanted. So, Walker was going to take this chance to prove to Ruby that he had meant it. That he wanted to be there for his… for her. He wanted to be there for the girls. For every single thing that they would go through, he wanted to be there. He wanted to start their life off the way that they would live it. With two parents who were invested in their lives, and there for everything that they needed. They would trade homes, and lives, they would be moving from one home to another to see each of their parents, but Walker and Ruby were going to make this work.

he had promised himself, and the girls, that he would make this work. They were still very young and would need to be with Ruby for the most part, for a long while, but they were going to make it work. He would go to Zeke’s and see the girls, he would take them stuff, and he would help Ruby with paying for things. Though, if he had his way, he would be paying for all of it. He would be footing the bill for everything, after all, it was the least that he could do. He had done so much wrong and he had hurt her so badly, that nothing he could ever say would change that. He had hoped, once upon a time, that this would lead to them getting back together, but his mother had quickly soothed those thoughts away. One step at a time, she had told him. He had to prove that he was a man of his word and that he was trying to change. So, that was why he was in the shop, looking for things that he would know that his kids would need, nappies and the like, not to mention clothes for them.

He had already bought them some onesies with his number and name on the back. He had no clue as to how long they would be able to wear them, but he wanted to be that dad. He would buy them in every size if he had to to make sure that they could be supporting their Dad on game day. Maybe one day he would be the one in the stands watching them play, what a joy that would be for him, but he didn’t want to think of his darling girls being that old, not yet. Though, the thought of one, or both of them, following his path into Quidditch did fill him with some kind of pride.

He would never let them feel the way that his father had. They would never wonder their worth or if their father loved them. He was not the man that his father had become, and though the road to hell was often paved with good intentions, he was not going to be anything like that man. It was why he was staying away from the Ministry now, and away from politics. He did not want that life, not by any means and he refused to let people think that he was using his father’s name to get places.

Reaching for the box in front of them contusion marred his brow and he looked at her. ” How the bloody hell do you know what size they are. They squirm too much to measure them…” he said in confusion and shock. Even before they were born when they had been setting up the nursery it had been something that he had, funnily, been shaken by. Clothes sizes were easier to understand, for babies they went by months. That he could understand, but with the girls, it was harder because Violet was a little bigger than Iris.

She held out the right size to him and he put it in the small cart next to him before grabbing two more and then looked at her. ”Oi, don’t be judging me. They blow through these. That might last, what, three days.” He said before looking at them in the stroller and then to their mother. She was chewing her lip. Uh-oh.

” What’s on your mind, Red?”

[googlefont="Satisfy"][googlefont="Open Sans"]
Every other weekend.
Half the hugs and kisses.
Ruby had grown up in what she could only describe as a stereotypically perfect family. She had a mum and dad who had loved each other and then the three children, she and Zeke had even been so close in age that they’d practically grown up together, and she hoped that now their children would be the same after all she and Zeke had a very close bond and Ruby found it highly unlikely that things would go south between them anytime soon. Maybe Ruby had been naive in hoping that she could have that much of a solid family unit for her children; she knew things were never that easy yet she had still hoped.

The redhead was more than a little disappointed that it hadn’t turned out that way, but that was partially why she had been thinking so much about giving Walker another chance. When they’d started seeing each other again for the girls’ sake, he’d opened up to her about how he was trying to get help for his anger issues and Ruby had been so proud when she’d told him, it proved that he really did want to do what was best for their children and the redhead wanted to be there to help him every step of the way. Sure, the chance of them getting back together was low but Ruby didn’t care; Walker may still think she didn’t love him but she did and the witch wanted to help him be the best he could be. She was proud that he was taking action and not just saying things and she’d be damned if she was going to let Walker think she didn’t care.

Ruby knew he had a good support circle with his family, especially his mother and sister but Ruby was different, she loved Walker in a way different to how they did and they had one thing that only they could share, and that was the twin girls that were laying in their stroller right now. She wanted her daughters to know the type of person Walker was, the type of person she had first fallen in love with and if Walker felt that the way to achieve that was through professional help? Well, Ruby wasn’t going to stand in the way, quite the opposite. If Walker knew he had her full support, it could go even better than it would without her support.

Pushing the stroller to Walker’s side she giggled and picked up another box this time a size bigger than what Walker had. "It’s all guesswork. Parenting tip number one, love. Always have the size up in your house. If the ones I have don’t fit, I have back up. That’s the only way I can tell.” She smirked, not realising her slip up as she dropped the box in the trolley between them. "You’ll get the hang of it.” She continued in the same teasing tone, nudging him in the side with her elbow and grinning. Ruby watched in amusement as he stocked up on another two boxes and shook her head, "Three days? You shoot high, let’s try three hours.” She joked before adding another two boxes to round it up to five. "This should be enough… for a little while.” Ruby commented, watching as Walker looked to the twins before following his gaze and smiling tenderly at the infants, briefly pausing the gnawing on her lip.

Walker’s next words startled her and the redhead looked up at him sheepishly, trying her best to stop the chewing. "It’s...nothing. It’s stupid.” She said quietly, looking down at the floor and kicking the ground, "I’ve just been thinking a lot recently.”

Walker didn't expect Ruby to forgive him easily, he hadn't even expected her to want anything to do with him after everything that had happened, but he was more than thankful that she had. She was quite often, a soothing balm to his wounded soul and there was not much that he would do to change any of it. Ruby was the one thing that he saw as a weakness because she was one of the few things besides Quidditch that he actually loved, just because he loved her. Everything about her added to that. Save for Caleb. he had tried with the man, but there was naught that could be done about it. He couldn't make himself want to be the man's best mate or anything, but that was just how things worked sometimes. He was not one to just hate someone for things, but Caleb had tried to take his family from him and that was just not going to be tolerated.

He keto his distance from the other bloke, and he tried to let it go that Caleb was still seeing Ruby, but she wasn't his wife anymore. He had no control over her. In fact, he hadn't had any during their marriage, even when he had tried he had seen that, and it had been a good lesson to him. Ruby Fehu was not a woman to be controlled and he had to let it go. He had to try and let go that the woman that he loved had loved other women. Just like she had let go that he had been with others before her. The past had made them who they were and only the future lay before them. So he was taking it one day at a time and hoping beyond all hope that things would get better.

"What if they never use them though and we end up with box after box of them and we never use them." His frugal nature was shaken by the thought and he thought that he might be ill for a moment. If they were still married he could have made the joke that they could hang on to them for the next ones, but he didn't even know if the woman who had been his wife would even want more children, but he was going to hold out hope that they would all be used and this would not be a waste of money. "Five boxes. My god." he said before laughing and smiling at her.

Something was obviously on her mind and he couldn't help but smile at her. He reached out and used his thumb to pull her lip out of her teeth. "Remember what I always say. Lips that beautiful should only be abused by someone else, love." He said flirting probably a little too much but he couldn't help himself when it came to her. He wanted to kiss her, and he knew he shouldn't but Merlin, did he really want to kiss her.
