[attr="class","cbody"]Coming here, Samira knew that there was no way of being entirely sure of what they were walking into. There was so much that was still unknown, and not just about the epidemic. Of course, so much of that was also still unclear, but there were other concerns to fear as well. The ICW did not give the United Kingdom much of any warning that they were coming at all. That was intentional, obviously. If it hadn’t been for the unstable government and the radicals in charge of the United Kingdom, Samira thought that there would have been no reason to keep it a secret. But the people in charge of the Ministry would not all necessarily be happy that there was any kind of interference. Someone that could control what they did, and try to make changes toward a fairer and more stable government was not something that radicals would want at all.
[break][break]
That was where some manner of uncertainty definitely came in. There was no way of knowing what kind of reception they would be getting. There was no way of knowing if there was going to be pushback or any kind of trouble. She did not necessarily think that it was going to be dangerous, but she thought there was also at least the slightest bit of a chance that that was possible. There was one of the reasons why members of the International Wizarding Police had come along. If there was a chance that anything went wrong, then they needed to have backup. Of course, they had their own purpose at the Ministry as well.
[break][break]
Admittedly, that made her feel a bit on her own at the foundation. She was not a woman that thought that she needed defending, but with so much of the group at the Ministry and only she and Davis at the foundation, it did make her feel occasionally ill at ease. Yes, there were so many people here that did not have magic, but that did not mean that she could necessarily get herself out of a bad situation if something escalated.
[break][break]
As much as she did not think she needed ICW police following her around all of the time, it might have felt a bit better to know that there was another number on their side here. Samira did not want to think about things as if there were sides, but that was just the reality of the situation. Clearly, the Lestrange Foundation did not trust them either. If they had, then they wouldn’t have guards in the foundation. There would not be a guard stationed outside of Emmaline’s lab.
[break][break]
She knew that a simpler explanation could be that the guards were there to keep their work safe. Security guards at a foundation like this one was not unheard of. She just came from a family of International Wizarding police. Her father had been one, her brother was one. Samira knew a professional when she saw one. Maybe without that background, she would have just thought that they were security guards. Maybe Davis did. She didn’t know—she hadn’t talked to him about it. But the presence of a new guard just for Emmaline had been what had her seeking out Luiz.
[break][break]
She just needed her worries expressed. She needed to see what the other man thought, and if he told her that she was looking too deeply into things, then she would feel better about it. Samira did not know him too well, but she knew that he was good at his job. She knew that he had been chosen to head up this group for a reason. It was why she wanted to talk to him instead of anybody else. They had not yet been here for a month and it wasn’t as if a cure was on the horizon, but eventually it could be. The presence of professional guards showed a lack of trust but it also gave them the advantage if—and this was a big if, the Ministry had told the foundation to make sure the cure fell into their hands first. She also wasn’t sure how she felt about being vastly outnumbered at the foundation while the rest of them were at the Ministry. This situation was unlike anything she had experienced before.
[break][break]
Either Luiz would validate her worries or he would dismiss them. Either way, she would have someone else’s opinion. It was past dinner as she approached his room, but not too late in the night for it to be inappropriate or for him to be asleep. The sun had not even fully set in the sky—honestly, there was a chance that he was even still at the Ministry. She didn’t know for sure. But if he was here, she would rather have this conversation with no one else around. With a final glance around—already feel overly paranoid, she knocked on the door.
