@radella

The love of sweets was universal, so Giacomo assumed. He knew there were some exceptions especially if you had some health concerns. But Giacomo was not one of those people and he was very thankful for that. It would have made his summer job very hard to go to. He could have chosen to work in other places but he figured with so many people around for the summer that Sugarplums would be a busy place.

The few days he had worked there so far had proved him right. He wondered if it would continue the rest of the summer though. All the years he had been here before during rather summer, he had often come at busy times. He had come here a few times and now that she was free again, Giacomo was able to go wherever he wanted with her.

He was so happy the muggleborn bullshit had ended. It had infuriated him to no end to his mum go through what she had been through, had been heartbreaking. Giacomo had been able to do very little and he wanted to help here since she had no other man in her life. Sure he was her son but he had to protect her. While he had established contact with his father, it was not the same as if the man had been there from the start. But he was there and he ought to protect her. He knew this mum was now working for his father following her freedom and honestly, Giacomo wasn’t sure how to feel about that. He only hoped that the man was good to her.

He thought he better pick up sweets for her before he finished his shift today. He would do anything to see a smile on her face, even something small like bringing his mum some cauldron cakes. There among her favourite pastries after all.

He was just tidying up after a toddler had spilt some packets of Bertie Bott’s over the floor. He cursed to himself as he stood up and saw a friendly face at the counter. ”Oh Radella….hey, how are you?” he smiled, trying not to make this encounter too awkward.

[attr="class","tweedles"]To say that Radella Blythe Leigh had a slight sweet tooth, would be a severe understatement. However, she also had enough self-control not to give in to it, most of the time. She had a figure to maintain, after all, but she also knew that having a little meat on her bones gave her a figure to die for. She'd been blessed like that. Her sisters were similarly built, Radella could tell already, and she despaired for their father and all the boys he'd be fighting off with a big stick in the coming years. Radella knew she wasn't helping matters, leaving the house in a mini-skirt and blouse over a bustier--her mama bought it for her, despite her father's emphatic protests--which her father had ranted and raved about until her mama calmed him down. There'd been mentions of Mama wearing something similar and honestly, Radella stopped listening after that because gross. Still, it gave her the chance to escape before Daddy could really stop her, so thanks Mama.

She sashayed her way through Diagon into Sugarplum's, well aware that she was turning heads and reveling in it. Her hair fell in soft waves around her face, with the majority tied back in a neat pony and a few tendrils artfully left free. If Radella knew anything about her appearance, it was how best to work it to her advantage. Sugarplum's was a fairly frequent haunt of hers, during the summer, much like Honeyduke's was during the school year. It didn't take her long to make her selections, since she tended to gravitate towards the same four or five things every time she visited and rarely branched out unless someone else asked her to. Mostly chocolates, with a few fruity candies thrown in for variety, Radella approached the counter to make her purchases. It was then that she heard a familiar voice call out. "Oh! Giacomo! I'm well," she replied with a polite smile. "And you?" So he worked there? Interesting. Not that Radella had anything against people in service jobs; they were just as essential to the function of society as any other job, but she'd never work one herself if she could avoid it.

Giacomo had no issue with taking up a summer job. The money he earned would enable him to buy more books or treat himself to some muggle movies. He also hoped to be able to help out his mum even if he knew that she would reject any money he offered. With no man at home, he knew he had to help out where he could. He had his grandfather at home but he was getting older and he didn’t want the man to feel obliged to help them out.

He was glad to have his grandparents in his life but they were his mother’s parents and their home had been his home while she had been caught up with the registration. His Nonna had worked so much about her daughter. Being a muggle she tried to comprehend what was going on and Giacomo had tried to explain the situation as best he could. But without living in the magical world, it became a little difficult to understand but he knew that his grandparents were doing their best.

They had helped out their daughter and grandson so many times over the years but now Giacomo wanted to repay them. He expected them to turn down any offer he made to help but it wouldn’t stop him from trying. Working in the sweet shop was a sure way for the teenager to meet all kinds of people since he knew that everyone came here. He was lucky that even he liked to indulge in sweets sometimes.

He just wished that some customers made sure their children cleaned up after making a mess. His mother would have not held back from scolding him in public if he had tossed things about. As a child he had been expectedly messy but he had found that as he grew up, he found himself preferring order. But at least he wasn’t at the OCD stage.

Now that his mother was home, he more happier in general. She was free of that that had a flow-on effect with Giacomo. He was going to be happier this summer than he had the last two since the registration had come into place.

”I’m going good” he smiled at his house mate. She did look nice today, he thought to himself. ”Do you have plans? Like a date or something?” Giacomo didn’t want to be too intrusive with his questions but there times (like this) where his curiosity got the better of him and he spoke before talking.
