general appearance
Brad has never been what one could call classically handsome, with his most prominent feature being his large ears.  The brunette man has a surprisingly difficult time growing facial hair but still keeps some, and stands at a low 5'7". Along with his petite male stature, his body frame is also slim. His eyes, one will notice if they are able to hold his attention for long enough, are an intense blue-green. He rarely smiles, normally keeping a serious expression, but when he does his straight, bright white smile can light up a room. What he believes he lacks in his physical attributes he attempts to make up for with his fashion sense, which is most often what he gets complimented on.

character history
The youngest child of a pair of American muggle doctors, Brad grew up wanting nothing. He was provided anything and everything he needed to help him succeed. His parents did that for him, and it was something that he never forgot. He continues to appreciate their financial support, even though he has never had their full emotional support. He spent most of his primary school years in a boarding school across the ocean, in England. He saw his parents and siblings quite infrequently, which looking back was likely a blessing in disguise. He was always a bit…eccentric, a bit different, his interests unique even from a young age.

His eccentricities exacerbated when his older sister, Nikki, received a letter from a magic school. Somehow (magic, he presumed) they knew that the children spent the majority of their life in England despite their American citizenship, therefore she was invited to attend Hogwarts as opposed to Ilvermorny. He took an immediate interest in magic, although the type of magic Brad was able to get information on in the muggle world was very different than the magic Nikki was learning in school. Brad got his hands on every book he could depicting the Wiccan arts, eventually also the Dark Arts, and tried to put them to practical use despite not yet having magic.

Due to his interest in this specific type of magic, and his sister’s acceptance into Hogwarts, the siblings all grew apart. He still hasn’t spoken to his sister since her Hogwarts graduation, and his muggle brother (Frederick) even longer than that. Brad was persistent that he would have magic as well, whether it was via the same route as his sister or not. He was therefore ecstatic when he received his Hogwarts letter and was sorted into Ravenclaw. He was then distraught to find that the type of magic he had been reading about up until then was not the kind of magic he would be taught. Brad continued these studies on his own outside of class, and fully immersed himself into the Dark Arts.

He wasn’t allowed to participate or observe the battle, despite his pleadings, thus was sent home. He immediately started to look into other sources of magical education, as there was no telling if Hogwarts would still be there next term or not. This was when he first learned about Solomanta and was convinced that this was where he should have gone for his specific interests. He had no say in the matter, however, and was sent back to Hogwarts after the war to finish his magical education. Although this school didn’t offer topics that he was interested in previously, it did allow him to find a new interest. The study of magical plants, Herbology, got him through the seven years that he was forced to spend there and quickly joined his other independent studies.

He decided to go to the University of Bangor in Wales to major in the subject before learning that Solomanta offered secondary education and mastery. At that time he had found himself having a love affair with plants, but Wiccan Magic and the Dark Arts still held a special place in his heart. He knew it was a long shot to apply, as they only accepted a handful of applicants each year, and it would be incredibly difficult since he did not go through their primary education. But despite this he had quite a lot of knowledge in their subjects, which must have impressed them as he was accepted. Thus, he traveled to Transylvania to major in Magical Naturalism at the Devil’s school. The curriculum was difficult and the culture much different from anything he had experienced thus far, but it was surprisingly comfortable and overall enlightening. It was exactly what he wanted out of a magical education, and to this day he considers it one of his greatest accomplishments.

From that point on he spent his time traveling, as Brad made it a point to never stay in one place for too long. Right before the muggleborn registration, he had traveled back to America to visit his parents in the wake of his father being diagnosed with a severe chronic illness. He stayed for a while, the longest he had stayed anywhere since school, once word of the muggleborn registration in the UK reached him. He couldn’t help himself, however, and left again once his father’s illness stabilized. After the registration deadline he returned to the UK, the things he learned in Solomanta and natural nomadic nature allowing him to keep a low profile and stay hidden. When he needed to, it was easy enough to pretend to be an actual muggle.

It was even easier when Epidemic X hit. Although lucky enough to avoid registration and keep his original wand, he was not lucky enough to avoid a common cold that ultimately resulted in the loss of his magic. Finding it more difficult to move around now that he could no longer apparate, he took temporary residence at the Royal Oak Pub.

Recently, after the disbandment of the muggleborn registration, he was asked to take the position of Innkeeper since he had been squatting there so long. The job wasn’t necessary, as his parents continue to fund him, but it gave him something to do until he can get his magic back. And he will, even if he has to go back to Solomanta and make a deal with the Devil to do so.

He currently is living in a room at the Royal Oak Pub, which is packed full of plants, runes, and books.

family history
George and Evelyn met in medical school. They were the top of their class, both fighting for the top spot that ultimately ended up going to Evelyn. Depending on who you ask, George let her have the position out of the goodness of his heart in hopes that she would go on a date with him. No matter the details, a date did happen and went swimmingly. They were married shortly after, a quick affair so as not to interfere with their individual residencies. They ended up sharing residency at the same hospital, proving the point of a quick marriage moot, but it was not wasted. The pregnancies came as quickly as their marriage.

First was a son. Frederick Douglas Rice. Then a daughter they named Nicole, but went by Nikki. Finally, Bradley. All three children were born within a year of each other without complication.

George and Evelyn were both American by heritage, but they (the two of them also coming from a line of medical professionals) were sent to boarding school in England growing up. Neither of them had any honest idea what to do with children, and thus sent theirs across the sea as well when they were of age to start school. An endless cycle, it would seem. The children and their parents were all very independent, and thus not very close. The two youngest of them being magical did nothing to improve their relationships either. Their mother, especially, was in a state of denial about magic.

It was difficult for a family whose wealth was built on science to wrap their heads around the idea of magic. At least where George and Evelyn were concerned. Although not understanding of the lives two out of three of their children were living, they continued to fund them. They couldn’t provide their children with any other kind of support, as they both had the emotional range of a teaspoon (HA).

The contact among the family was minimal, as they all had their separate lives. When George became diagnosed with a severe chronic illness, the family was together for the first time in several years. The peace didn’t last long. They were all so different by that point, and fought constantly.

They stuck it out as long as they could for the sake of George. But when it looked like he was on the upswing, the outlook not so bleak, the children were gone again. They will return again for his funeral, most likely, but probably not before then.

Pending!

  • Just a couple of things. Age wise, he would have been in his first year during the battle — and because he was a Muggleborn, he would not have attended that first year, as no Muggleborns got their Hogwarts letter that year. So, he would have not been able to go to Hogwarts or even get his letter until the 1998-1999 school year. So that part of the history will need to be removed and changed!
  • Şolomanţă is one of the most elusive and prestigious dark arts school in the world, so I do find it hard to believe that an 11 year old would be able to find out about it that easily!
  • If you are going to have him evading the registration, I’m going to need to details on how he did that. The entire power of the Death Eaters and the magical law enforcement department were searching, there were photographs of all Muggleborns so he could not just roam around Muggle London pretending to be a Muggle and not pass someone who recognized him. Just going to need some serious deets on how he managed that.
  • Also going to need details on how squatting at an inn lead to an Innkeeper job. If he was really squatting and not paying for a room, I could see them taking pity on him and giving him a job as a server or a bartender, but an Innkeeper literally runs the inn, so that’s a bit of an important job to give a squatter!
  • Just want to verify that you are not attempting a crossover with Qetsiyah, and that you’re just using the same name!

That’s it!
