UNIVERSITY STUDENT/ALUMNI SIGN-UP
Welcome to Braithwaite School of the Performing Arts!

Founded in 1931 by Dame Florence Lilian Braithwaite, the Braithwaite School is a world leader in performing arts education. The school’s mission is to provide the highest caliber of artistic education for gifted musicians, dancers, and actors from around the world so that they may achieve their fullest potential as artists, leaders, and global citizens. Located in London, Braithwaite offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in dance, drama (acting and playwriting), and music (classical, jazz, historical performance, and vocal arts). Currently more than 800 artists from 50+ countries and regions are enrolled at Braithwaite, where they appear in over 700 annual performances in the school’s six theaters; at Avalon Center for the Arts; at the Palace Theatre; as well as other venues around London, the United Kingdom, and the world.

The Junior Braithwaite School with 6th and 7th year wixen educational curricula. All students study solfège and music theory in addition to their primary instrument. Vocal majors must also study diction and performance. Similarly, pianists must study piano performance. String, brass and woodwind players as well as percussionists also participate in orchestra.

The school offers courses in dance, drama and music.
  • The Dance Division was established in 1971 by veela Marko Kraljevic. He is still the acting director. It offers a Bachelor and Masters of Fine Arts. Dance, as an art form, reaches across centuries and cultures. At Braithwaite, the student will be encouraged to become a versatile and nuanced performer through equal emphasis on both modern and ballet techniques. Dancers will learn the history and works from the past that continue to inform today’s dance makers, and will be challenged to create with celebrated choreographers. Through its classes, performances, and compositional opportunities, Braithwaite fosters and empowers the next generation of exceptional artists and creative voices in the dance world.

The B.F.A in Dance is a four-year program of study. Students are required to study Ballet, Modern, Classical, Partnering, Performance, Repertory, and Stagecraft. Elective studies may include Choreography, Jazz, and Solo and Duet Repertory.

The M.F.A. in Dance is an individualized two-year program of study (including two summers of study) that furthers emerging and returning professionals' unique interests in the creation and teaching of dance with a focus on the interdependence of artistry, pedagogy and critical dance studies as platforms for critical civic engagement and social justice. Inherently interdisciplinary in nature, the program draws on practice and scholarship from many fields such as choreography/dance performance, feminist studies, whiteness studies, performance studies, education and critical pedagogy, critical race theory and cultural studies. Veela specialties require at least 1/8 verifiable heritage.

  • The Drama Division was established in 1931 by the actress and school founder: Lilian Braithwaite. Its acting programs offer a Bachelor of Fine Arts, and, beginning in 1988, a Master of Fine Arts. Braithwaite Drama is dedicated to preparing actors and playwrights to tell, with clarity and passion, imagination and artistry, diverse stories that speak to the truth of the world in which we live. As an actor, students will develop their capacity to bring body, voice, and spirit together in ways both personal and transformative, while exploring plays that range from the classic texts of Shakespeare and Chekhov to exciting new works, both in the classroom and on the stage. As a playwright, students will have the opportunity to continue to develop their own distinctive voice while acquiring a stronger command of dramatic structure and to see their work come to life in readings and workshops with student actors, alumni, and guest artists.

The B.F.A. in Drama is a four-year program of study. Students are required to student Dramatic Interpretation and Dramatic Techniques. Performance Projects are required yearly.

The M.F.A in Performance is a two-year program of study. The training has six core themes: fostering the individual artist, skill in use of the dramatic text, skill in use of the self, skill in artistic collaboration, professionalism, and employment.

The M.F.A. in Playwriting is an individualized two-year program of study (including two summers of study). This program accepts six writers each year. Students concentrate on the practical aspects of dramatic writing through a weekly master class with the program's directors. The focus is on dramatic structure and the cultivation of each writer's individual voice.

  • The Music Division is the largest of the school's divisions. Available degrees are Bachelor of Music or Master of Music. Academic majors are brass, collaborative piano, composition, guitar, harp, historical performance, jazz studies, orchestral conducting, organ, percussion, piano, strings, voice, and woodwinds. The collaborative piano, historical performance, and orchestral conducting programs are solely at the graduate level.

The B.M. is a four-year program of study. Beyond mastery of the student's instrument of choice, students participate in the ear training program, which serves to equip students with thorough skills in rhythm, pitch, and musical structures in order to promote confident, fast, and accurate learning. Welcome to Gráinneog Institute!

Everyone knows the story of Thaddeus Thurkell — the man that was so appalled by his seven sons that turned out to be Squibs, that he turned them all into hedgehogs. He’s got a chocolate frog card and everything, but what happened to his seven sons, you ask?

After they were eventually turned back into humans, they left home. Who wouldn’t, after their father turned them all into hedgehogs? They left England, and moved to Galway, Ireland. They settled in and then they got talking. What did they want to do now that they were free from their father’s disapproving grasp?

That was how Gráinneog Institute was founded. Seven majors, for each of the sons’ seven passions: History, Law, Medicine, Mathematics, Engineering, Architecture, Muggle Studies.

Stone by stone, castles were built. It took them years to build up the original nine buildings that make up Gráinneog Institute.

Throughout the years, more buildings have been built to add onto the campus. There is now an athletic center and a student commons. As a university founded by Squibs, they have adapted with the times, with computers in the library and commons, and Muggle technology everywhere.

For more than half of their long history, they only accepted Squibs into their midst, but in the last hundred years, any student willing to learn is now admitted into the school. All programs here are four year programs! It offers the following majors:

  • Architecture
  • Engineering
  • History
  • Law

Because everyone takes university at their own pace, we are also adding a code that you guys need to use in order to move your character up a year! Pretty much there just isn't a good way to know when every character is ready to move up a term. Some of them are taking classes part time, some full time -- some started in the fall, some started in the winter -- some took summer classes, some don't! Because of that, there's just no good way for us to know when to move them up a year! So if your character has progressed to the next year in their schooling, please post the code below so we can move them up.

Student Moving Up a Year Code:
[b][u]Student Moving Up a Year[/u][/b]
[b]School:[/b]
[b]Character Name:[/b]
[b]Major Moving Up:[/b]
[b]Terms Completed:[/b]

Most of the code is self-explantory but let's take a second to break down the final question. If you're moving a student up a year, they need to have completed a realistic amount of classes to do that! If they're full term, that's just two terms. So for instance, now that school is out for the summer, you could post under Terms: Full Term- Fall 2017, Spring 2018, and that would be enough for them to move up a year. If you have your student being part time, it's sort of more up for interpretation. Maybe you think it would take them three terms to move up one part time, maybe you have them really only taking one or two classes and you think it would take four. As long as it's realistic, go for it, and we will accept it if we agree!

Note that University of Bangor and Lig-na-Paiste Institute of Dragons do not offer summer courses!

@bradley - question! Did he have to take a year off or anything like that? I only ask because being there until 2003 would make him finish in five years, not four. If you meant four than just change it to Spring 2002! Let me know!
