Observation,

it's a learning curve

One thing Viv had learnt from a young age and had continued to use throughout her life was how observing people and things got you much further in life than just asking and mimicking. Admittedly, that could just be her but ever since she'd started primary school she had always found it much easier to watch everything, she learnt quicker than some by doing that and it was a very handy tool to have now.

Observing how Ward approached things when he was gambling had taught the witch a few tricks of the trade, but she still had a long way to go. She had her own little weapons though, her good looks and flirtatious ways sometimes caused people to slip up, but she couldn't flirt too much or with too many people without arousing suspicion but here and there a couple of times a night didn't do much harm, not to mention she got plenty of drinks bought for her and getting drunk for free was something she definitely get used to.

Tonight Viv was trying her hand at poker tonight. She usually had Ward guiding her and advising her but she didn't want to rely on him for everything, especially if she wanted to ever play against him. Where would the fun be in them knowing how each other play? No, tonight was her first time alone and she was trying her best but she wasn't doing as well as she could. It was infuriating but one of the things her parents had taught her in life was if you got knocked down just get back up again. Quitters didn't get anywhere in life and Vivien Buchanan was not a quitter.

She gave her cards a once over, it was a risky hand she'd been dealt, a pair of tens. There was a pair of threes already on the table and the witch began to gnaw on her lip, she had a little bit of time to decide, there were two other people before her that had to play so she had time, and Viv wanted to play it safe, but she wasn't sure if playing safe would be the right thing to do, none of the other players had shown hints of bluffing yet, or if they had she'd not yet noticed and that worried her. She glanced to her left as the first person pushed some gold to the centre of the table and Viv took a deep breath. She had to make a decision and she had to make it before the gentleman before she played or they would know that was the one bluffing her way through the game.

Someone placed a glass down on the table beside her and Viv automatically held her cards close to her chest in case it was someone who was going to try and cheat but as she looked at the newly arrived woman. Viv noted that she didn't seem overly interested in her hand and she hesitantly shifted her cards away from her chest to look at them again as the gentleman beside her folded.
