INSURRECTION SITE PLOT
After the war ended in 1998, for a time the United Kingdom was at peace. They were focused on rebuilding, with Kingsley Shacklebolt heading up the Ministry. While the more dangerous Death Eaters were sent to Azkaban, lower level offenders were put into a work release program, in an attempt to bring them back into society. For a time, everything was getting better and life got to go on without worries of war and something ominous approaching.
As time went by, though, some were not as happy about the lenience showed to Death Eaters and their family and so came the whispers. The whispers called into question the sanity of Minister Shacklebolt, the sanity of Auror Potter, and rumors can go a long way if the right people are spreading them. Eventually, this brought about the rise of a new Minister, by the name of Isaiah Durant.
His regime as Minister put Death Eaters in camps, had purebloods questioned, had everyone with any purist ties fined into poverty. It was an extreme approach, one that many liked because it punished those who had hurt and killed in the past, but many people deemed it as too much. Too inhumane. To those people, it was only a matter of time until the Death Eaters were going to push back.
When they did, Minister Durant was publicly executed in the Atrium of the Ministry, and a Death Eater by the name of Ares Wentzell took over. But even his reign was riddled with problems, with some of the purists not liking having a foreigner in charge, and others thinking his ideals weren’t entirely on par with theirs. Though he did start up a Muggleborn Registration that put all Muggleborns into ghettos, and into horrible jobs that subjected them to daily torture or demeaning or menial work, there were some that wanted him out of power -- especially after he married a halfblood himself.
Within a year, he was pushed out of the Ministry and a new Minister took his place. Andromeda Lestrange. A name that brought up much controversy, as the former Order member who married a Death Eater after the purists came to power. However, she had the backing off other purists, who thought that she had more than proved in the past year that she was once again, one of them.
It seemed as though her reign would be better — the sacred twenty-eight supported one of their own in charge rather than a foreigner, but over time, even her policies started to seem too lenient on Muggleborns. Those who were under seventeen and would normally be in Hogwarts were taken away from the jobs they were assigned and put into a school for Muggleborn Children. Muggleborns were allowed to leave the poverty they had been forced to live in and go home as long as they continued going to their assigned jobs. There were certainly people that weren't so happy with Minister Lestrange's policy choices either.
But then, everything changed when a bigger problem struck them.
A disease swept the United Kingdom, innocently appearing to be nothing more than a bad cold for some time. It was only when it had already spread out of control that they realized what the final symptom was: the person’s magic completely vanished. Even when their other symptoms eventually subsided, even when they were back to otherwise perfect health... their magic was gone. Those impacted couldn't so much as summon something.
Now, with more than half of the wizarding United Kingdom without magic, the United Kingdom is in a state of emergency, with the borders closed to ensure this epidemic does not spread to the rest of the world. The public is trying to adapt to life without magic, and for some, that means learning how to do things by hand that they've never done before. And the Ministry? They are just trying to keep everything from plunging into complete chaos.
Peace talks have begun, to try to get the purists and Muggleborns working together toward a cure, but only time will tell if any good will come of them...
