general appearance
On the taller side of average, Helenus doesn't quite keep track of his height. He's still growing, or so his mother says, but until then, height just mostly seems like a way for people to get into pissing contests on.
He's got an eyebrow scar from an incident he doesn't really like to talk about. (it's embarrassing. he tripped over his own feet and into a wall after the sudden appearance of a hawk wearing a scarf. said hawk had been there for hours, and didn’t exactly blend in.)
Oval faces and dark brown hair run in the family, and certainly his face shape is similar enough to the rest of his family's. He favors his mother's side of the family with a soft nose, a well-carved jawline and high cheekbones.

skills
Learning-- he's very much a sponge for information.
Careful hands-- he's grown up around animals, so his hands have been almost more important than his wand.
Researching and Finding what he's looking for-- those are two different skills, sometimes, but he counts them as one.
He's pretty good at Mimicking birdcalls, but he's got to be that.
Spatial awareness-- most of the time, that is.
Team Player,
Keen eye for detail,
Record keeping(though that's practically a family trait),
Organization,
Riding (winged horses or hippogriffs)
weaknesses
Mourning for his cousin,
nervous around new people (he's great on the grounds or when talking about what he knows, but with things he's uncertain on, it shows),
his Siblings (for all that that's a weakness for everyone with siblings),
the Diagon Alley attack (he feels he should have done more for Dara, Alisdair, and Sadie),
light sleeper,
Not as great a saleswizard as he feels he should be
positive traits
Agreeable, Caring, Clever, Conscientious, Dedicated, Earnest, Flexible, Gentle, Hardworking, Intuitive, Methodical, Organized, Practical, Protective, Reliable, Resourceful, Responsible, Steady, Stubborn
negative traits
Cautious, Distractable, Fanciful, Hesitant, Impressionable, Inhibited, Nervous, Noncompetitive, Reserved, Regretful, Stubborn, Self-critical, Unambitious
hobbies/interests
Reading, care and breeding of raptors, winged horses, and hippogriffs, researching on them, CoMC, Arithmency, class discussions, familial debates, and not that he'd admit it, but he likes mucking out stalls.

character history
When Helenus was born, his great-grandfather Gofraid Fawley was upset. Not for much Helenus could do, or for Helenus's general existence, but it did mean that his great-grandfather lost a bet to his wife Ceylan as to who would be born first: their first great-grandchild or a carefully-bred foal. It's a story often told to great laughter that rather than welcoming his eventual successor, Gofraid immediately went to the maternity stall to see if the pregnant dam could have foaled in the last five minutes. Alas, it was not to be, and Gofraid was let down by Helenus for the first and hoped-for only time in his life.

Helenus was the first Fawley born in the family since the Battle of Hogwarts, born to a coincidentally 'pureblood' couple. Isadora Shacklebolt was a cousin removed once or twice from the more famous barer of her name, and Edgar Fawley was simply the oldest child of the oldest living child. (there was an uncle married to the Widow of Glastonbury, who died under somewhat uncertain circumstances. After his death, there was a foal named after him. Not to be speak ill of the dead, but that Aethonan ended up doing rather more for the family than her namesake.)
It had made sense to marry after the Battle-- Isadora and Edgar had already been seeing each other, and with purebloods being looked at more suspiciously, the Fawleys had concerns about what might happen to them and their winged creatures should they be interrogated as to what happened to one of their daughters. Or two, really. The older families had the tendency to intermarry, and the Fawleys were certainly that. Older connections they might not consider as much might be suspicious, after all, and the constant selling of horses and birds of prey might be seem as a cover for something more nefarious. Not to mention, many of their historical clients were from the wealthier families, who by and large, happened to be supporters of more purist regimes.

Helenus grew up, then, in a Fawley family largely directed by Gofraid, Ceylan, and Isadora. The three were always in discussions, and whenever Helenus tried to listen into them, he was told he was far too young for that sort of business. Rather than understanding they meant Ministry dealings, Helenus took it to mean that they were talking about family enterprises, and set to devouring the family library, pedigree records, and bills of sale. As there were many of them, Helenus was kept out of his mother's hair, and neatly in the corner. Though Helenus became an older brother often enough, and cared deeply for his younger siblings, his mind was set on one thing, and one thing only-- if he could learn enough of what they did, then he might listen in on the discussions and offer educated opinions.

Fawleys tend to be drawn to Ravenclaw with the common-enough Hufflepuff, like Uncle Sullivan. Helenus’s mother was a Hufflepuff as well, and his father a Ravenclaw, which fit well. The combination made for a somewhat close-knit family overly fond of debating and researching, enough so that the dining room was rarely used, and a smaller room to eat had to built onto the library some decades ago, so that family members could race in to prove their arguments with research. It would later take Helenus some time to break himself of that habit in Hogwarts.

The Fawleys had had children in Hogwarts during the Battle of Hogwarts, and they couldn't claim they'd had no idea, but it was known that after being picked up, a few named family members had made an appearance. Leyla was one, Isadora another. It was unknown if the two would balance out, but they seemed to do so when Isadora's cousin was in office, especially when the Fawleys ignored Leyla's daughters. They were able to take in the pegasi of some of the families that no longer had the means or availability to care for them, and gave what they felt was gold fair enough that the families might be able to use without the Ministry turning a disliked eye, as well as vows that the families would be able to have first claim if their finances ever rose again.

Once Durant was in office, Isadora's not-so-close familial relation to the past Minister and the noted absence of Fawleys in the Battle was suspicious. Even with Isadora's experiences used, one Battle did not outweigh a Death Eater-- or Carla's relatives. They quieted, continued breeding and selling their birds and winged horses, though at reduced prices for those who had won the Battle. It was unknown if that would truly work, but careful receipts and record-keeping showed no money being sent towards anything suspicious, but their recent history of buying of purchasing the winged horses of Death Eaters and Death Eater affiliated-families was something that did cause an eye to be kept on them.

Helenus and his siblings were sheltered from that by careful efforts, though it was noticed that occasionally people came to the family, looked at the horses, and left without buying anything, or making appointments to do so. When Helenus received his Hogwarts letter, the normal range of things happened, and he went off to Hogwarts, nervous about making new friends, and worried about missing the animals he'd spent a decade knowing. When he grew too homesick, he'd go to the Owlery and pasture to see if any from his family's lines, for the familiarity of the Fawley Aviary and the Fawley stables.

Sidonia came to Hogwarts two years after Helenus, which certainly helped. Helenus wasn't overly popular-- he was something of a pet for some older students, who found his tics and knowledge amusing. He started Care of Magical Creatures with excitement, and found himself enjoying what he learnt.

When the fire came, Helenus and Sadie were unscathed. When the Potter children were attacked, they were horrified, and Helenus spent more time in the Owlrey and paddock than ever before, trying to help Sadie calm down. On the day of the Diagon Alley attack, Helenus, Sadie, Alisdair, and their cousin Dara were in Diagon Alley. Helenus had only required some simple Healing for broken bones and bruises. Sadie had needed a two-week stay. Alisdair, two years too young for Hogwarts, had taken nearly a month to be stabilized. And Dara, shopping for Hogwarts, had been killed.

Helenus, his younger sister, and his brother all saw Threstals after that. Helenus was relieved to find out that Fawleys hadn't bred those for centuries. Helenus and Sadie returned to Hogwarts, though Isadora heavily considered transferring them to Beauxbatons. During the takeover, sales rose, and Helenus and Sadie were encouraged to reach out more to the children of their family's clients. Sadie didn't attend the end-of-year dance, but Helenus did. He tried not to throw up, and see Dara where the Bonfils boy was. It was still supposed to be Dara's first year, and Helenus didn't know if he should be relieved that his cousin wasn't there or not.

During the lockdown, he and Sadie spent a lot of their time in the Owlrey and paddocks again. Sadie was always crying, and Helenus couldn't blame her. When they were finally allowed to go, Sidonia refused to leave their grounds for the summer. They still came back the next year, because if they tried to leave, it would make hem seem like dissidents, and with a Shacklebolt mother, that thought to be almost more dangerous than staying.

Hector Fawley's a grandfather, and his more sensible wife Aila deserves her own mention

The Akingbades are step-family, kind of? Sullivan's closer with them, of course.

family history
The Fawleys, like many other of the families called Sacred Twenty-Eight, have long histories.

Theirs begin, really, what what is generally assumed to be fowl. Entomology and crests claim that, at least, and Fawleys have often been long-associated with feathered creatures. (It's also been associated with land and farming-- but leave that to the Macmillans) Eventually, the family dealings turned from fowl-hunting and the breeding of fowl to the care and breeding of raptors. It's no surprise, really, that the nickname for their Minister was "flamboyant"-- for what else is a male bird, usually?

While Fawley falcons, Fawley kites, Fawley hawks, and Fawley owls, are generally regarded as some of the highest quality bred in Great Britain, Fawleys are more recently known for their hippogriffs and pegasi. The pedigrees of those they care for are as diligently kept as other Sacred Twenty-Eight families keep track of their ancestries, and reaching near-as-far back, in many cases. It’s not an exaggeration to say they keep better care of their histories of their animals than their own lineage, but it’s nearly accurate.

Other than a few stints in office, the Fawleys usually weren't much for the Ministry. That isn't to say that they never worked in politics, as the Fawleys usually had a small but faithful presence in the Wizards' Council and the Wizengamont that continued to keep the family in the general pureblood loop. Otherwise, the Fawleys were mostly content to mind their creatures, and tend to their coffers.

Most were, really. While there are a few exceptions to those who are neutral and/or got swept up with Death Eaters, for the most part, the Fawleys did as they pleased in Ireland, and made few enemies. Leyla Fawley was the most extreme to either side, and after she died in the Battle of Hogwarts, the Fawleys were careful to distance themselves from her activities, at the advice of her own parents and the at-that-time living Aila Fawley.

There's a small Squib line in England that, while is of relatively distant relation, is kept track of enough to see if any mages spring from the line. Neither of the Aubrey Fawleys seem to be fortunate enough, sadly.

Isadora's parents were from the relatively small Kama and Shacklebolt lines, and her relationship to Kingsley is close enough that they might claim some benefit from his stint as Minister and distant enough that they weren't gone after to be Order members. While there are some relations who vary one way or another, the Shacklebolt family is clear in how it stands.
