Brothers under the sun
we were the same
Getting out of Hogwarts, the only thing that he could think that he wanted to do was play professional quidditch. He wanted to. He was that good at it. He thought that he could do it. He wanted a jersey that said Wentzell on the back of it hung up in Dad's study next to Nick's. He wanted someone to wear his number, he wanted someone to know who he was, and not just as Ares Wentzell's younger son. Not as Nick Wentzell's little brother. He wanted someone to know who he was on his own. He wanted to be good at this. He wanted to succeed at this, and there was something a little... Disheartening, about Ma not being here to see him do it. Not knowing that he had finally made it to the pros. That he was a quidditch player now. That was what he wanted. That was what he had dreamed about since he was old enough to walk and talk, and he could say that he wanted to ride on the broom with Nick. LJ had wanted to be like Nick for as long as he could remember, and he still did. He still looked up to his brother, he thought that he always would.

It was just that things were different now. Things were going to continue to be different. Because LJ wasn't that little boy with a hero worship thing going on anymore. He wasn't equal to his brother. His brother played for England for Merlin's sake! But he thought that he could get there. The playing field was a whole lot more level than it had been when he had been five, and Nick had been fourteen and starting on the Gryffindor quidditch team. That hadn't been fair. Now things were fair. Or closer to fair, and LJ thought that they could figure that out. They could figure out where they stood now, and he could stop being the kid brother. They had a kid brother. He was one, and following Issa and Dad around the house like a little puppy. He knew that he didn't interact with Orion all that much, but she was still there, in his eyes. And knowing that he was Issa's now helped. He thought that it was strange, that that helped, but it did. It was one less tie to her that Orion was never going to know.

He couldn't know their ma, and so it was better for him to have the mum that was standing right in front of him. That LJ thought really did want him, and that was good. Ma had wanted him, of course she had, but she hadn't gotten the chance too, and Issa was here. She was here, and she wanted him, so that worked out. They didn't have to worry about it so much, LJ knew that not living at home made that a little easier, and he was happy with that decision. Moving into a flat of his own had been a relatively decent idea, and he was proud to say that he had those every now and again. That and he would be starting college at Bangor in the fall, and that was even harder to get in than Lufkin was. He was going to do this, and he was going to do it right. Taking what he loved and running with it for awhile, and having a fall back plan that he had been working on his entire life. Having a male version of Ma around wasn't going to change just because they weren't in Hogwarts anymore. He could still study.

Alchemy. It would always be Alchemy, and between that and Quidditch he thought he was pretty much set. No great, epic loves for him. He had the two things that he needed. That would save everyone a lot of heartache in the end. That wasn't to say that there weren't girls around, he thought that drinking with Ly had been quite the night after all, but he didn't think that there was anything wrong with that. Nothing wrong with having fun. He was eighteen. He had all the time in the world to have a good time, and now that he had the space to do so, he was going to take advantage of it. After running into his friend's girl on the beach LJ made his way towards where he thought that Caerus would have been. He knew that there was a little more drama in the Nott household than there was anywhere else on this island, but he didn't think that Caerus would want anything to do with the drama that was going on between his dad and his uncle. He had heard what had happened, but it wasn't any of his business, and so he thought that just avoiding the whole thing would do them all some good. Coming up next to him he offered the second beer that he had in his hand with a smirk. "Your girl's on the beach... What are you doing up here?" Remy had been Caerus's girl for forever, and LJ didn't care what they said, in his book, she always would be.

We are like
birds of a feather

Caerus had to admit that this vacation had come as a bit of a surprise to him. He had known that Uncle Malcolm was engaged, obviously, but he hadn’t expected that going to their wedding would involve a trip to another continent and a weeklong vacation. But he wasn’t complaining. He thought that this wedding was definitely… one-of-a-kind. He didn’t think that he’d likely attend another wedding on a private island in his life, or would it include a free vacation. Not that they couldn’t have afforded to pay their own way, but they hadn’t had to. At least, he was pretty sure that they hadn’t. It would have been his father paying the tab if they had, not him, but he thought that he would have heard him talking about that if that was the case. And he hadn’t been, so he thought it was safe to say that this was a free vacation. He had never been to Africa before, and while it was technically winter in the southern hemisphere, it had still been nice for all of the trip so far. It was definitely turning out to be one hell of a vacation.

Of course, there were downsides of being here for as long as they were. He hadn’t missed a match, thankfully. He had come here after their match on Sunday. He supposed he could have afforded to try to miss it, since it wasn’t like he was starting, but that wasn’t something that he was going to ask for when he was brand new to the team--and he wasn’t going to risk that. Knowing his luck, they’d need a reserve and he’d find out when he got home from vacation that he’d missed out on actually starting for a match. But he was missing practices and trainings by being gone this week. It wasn’t exactly the best news in the world, but it was what it was. He couldn’t change it and he had to admit, he liked being on this island. Sure, he was with his family and that could get a little bit tiring at times, but he was also with Remy. Since she was staying with them for the summer, she had gotten an invitation as well, which he thought was nice. To Malcolm’s now wife, Remy was just her intern, so letting her come to the wedding had been a nice thing to do.

The only other option had also been kind of rude, so he guessed it sort of made sense that she hadn’t done that. She could have not included her, and then Remy would just be alone at Nott Estate all week while they were living it up in the south of Africa. He probably would have felt pretty bad about that, so he was pretty glad that she’d gotten to come. And, obviously, LJ was here too. The fact that his best friend was now technically his cousin too was cool. But really, LJ was kind of like a brother to him, so his uncle and LJ’s aunt getting married didn’t change that. It was still sort of cool that they were actual cousins through marriage now. That was not something that he ever would have expected. So, while this trip was a whole lot of family, he had two friends here too and that definitely meant that he was probably having more fun than some of them were. Certainly, more fun than Dorian. That was the… drama of the trip, that he had been trying to find out more about. He didn’t exactly get all of the information, the way that Ophion did, but he’d heard enough.

Caerus knew that Uncle Dorian had gotten caught helping to harbor a Muggleborn. Well, he supposed not even caught. The Muggleborn had turned herself in, and that interrogation or whatever had led to the revelation that Dorian had been helping her. That was just about all that he knew, apart from the fact that Dorian was not in too much trouble with the Ministry or the law technically. But he was in trouble with Lester because he had to do something too. It wasn’t as if he legally had to do something, but something like this happening was going to get out. If his father didn’t respond accordingly, it would likely make the entire family look bad instead of just Dorian looking bad. Caerus didn’t know if he was going to cut him off, or what, but he knew that Lester had been talking to Ophion about it a little bit during the trip. As the heir to the Nott line, apparently learning how to deal with this sort of thing was important. Caerus didn’t think that Ophion had to worry about something like that happening to him, though. He had no plans of harboring fugitives in the future. “Avoiding getting bitched at for ‘blocking her sun,’ if I go down there.” He said with a grin, before taking the offered beer from his hand. “Thanks.” Caerus nodded, before taking a swig of the beer.
