Ladies and gentlemen, we are at the end of existence
The television is fiction, it's telling lies to our vision
It's like a prison that we live in and we're all in the system

This was it. This was the beginning of the downward spiral into the most boring part of summer. The first half was always fun, hanging out with friends, sleeping over at each other's houses, going to parties... Once July hit things always seemed to take a slow and steady dive and, though it was only five days in, her downward spiral had already begun. A lot of it had to do with the fact that she hadn't had Jesse around yet again. He was the only reason any of her previous summers had been fun for as long as they had been. He always had some crazy ideas or things for them to do. She missed it, missed him a little bit. He was like her brother, not her real brother, obviously, but something like that. In fact he was closer to her than her real brother. Now he was sort of...gone.

Last year he had been really gone but this time was different. He was around but not very often, the mines kept him extremely busy most days of the week and then there was....something else. Delia didn't know and by the marks she had seen on him a time or two she didn't want to. All she knew was that it took up a good portion of his nights and that meant she still didn't get to see him. Instead she had found herself hanging out with her girl friends most of the time. Terrianne and Emily, they kept her busy and entertained. For now... Terri was leaving for vacation soon and Emily had become a little unbearable lately since finding out about her betrothal. All she seemed to talk about was her distaste for it and the subject bored Delia beyond tears.

She hoped her friend would get over it soon enough so that she might have someone to once again spend her time with. Unfortunately that wasn't the case for today and she was once again alone. Delia had decided to make her little trip to the library, specifically the wizarding portion of it. If she was going to be bored, she could at least be productive. The small blonde had just entered through the painting, craning her neck to see if she could find any empty tables to sit at. None. Damn, who knew a library would be so full on any given weekday.

Delia walked to a nearby table with a person who seemed like they could spare a bit of space of her to sit at. "Excuse me," she smiled politely, "Do you mind if I sit with you? The rest of the tables are filled up."

Excuse me, but I'm gutted and I think I know you
Ezra was in the Library researching, he knew if he still wanted to go to Lufkin in the fall he needed to be prepared and to try to be ahead, he did not even know what he was studying necessarily but he picked up the first book he saw on beginner business strategies and he got to work attempting to read it. He had just had a very interesting run in at Aphrodite's apartment and he was now just hoping for the peace and quiet that the library brings, or at least something less amped than going to the apartment of the girl you knocked up to see a man there in her place, a very brutal looking man at that. He had recalled his talk with Delia the other day and he had enjoyed the company of a neutral party someone he did not know very well and required so very little from him. It was refreshing in many ways to have the pressure gone from serious conversations, he felt like serious conversations were all he was having lately and he really just needed something less stressful in his life.

Ezra attempted to read the book but he found himself in a constant state of re-reading every sentence although he could not tell if it was because the book was difficult to understand or because his mind was still in an endless state of wandering. He could feel his feet tapping to a beat he had stuck in his head and he knew that he was just overall too distracted to truly be comprehending new concepts in business. This was the first time since summer began that he actually wished to be back at Hogwarts, he found Hogwarts to be simpler for him. He was good at school and had always gotten good grades and enjoyed studying and this left him little time for social interactions but now he was thinking that maybe that was a good thing.

So far this summer social interactions had brought him nothing but pain and headaches. Ezra had learned his father was having an affair, learned he was a half-blood, learned he had to continue to hide those things from everyone including his sister. Ezra had learned he was going to be a dad...christ was this the first time he had bloody well thought about the actual word? He had learned that he could make big mistakes in tiny moments and that there was hardly anything he could do to fix those things. However, there had been one social interaction that had brought him happiness, it was the carefree one with Delia. She was his sister's friend but that night she felt like his friend too and he needed a friend badly lately. He looked up and saw Delia getting ready to sit in a chair a few tables over and he quickly got up from his seat to go and greet her. "Excuse me miss are you reading anything overly clever?" he said with a tilt of his head to see what book she had and teasing the fact that they had now become well acquainted.

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, WE ARE AT THE END OF EXISTENCE
THE TELEVISION IS FICTION, IT'S TELLING LIES TO OUR VISION
IT'S LIKE A PRISON THAT WE LIVE IN AND WE'RE ALL IN THE SYSTEM
Delia never really had any permanent siblings in her life. Zachariah had been gone for as long as she could remember and, while she could remember a few instances of speaking with him briefly on the phone, she didn't really remember him. She didn't remember what her father looked like either. If it hadn't been for photos of the man she might have swore that she hadn't had a father at all. She bore a few of his features but for the most part she looked like her mother, something she figured had made life a little simpler for her mother. Delia thought that having a living, breathing reminder of someone that you lost might possibly be the worst thing in the world. She had never lost anyone close to her, not in any sort of permanent way. Jesse had been gone for a while but he came and went like the tides. Just when he would drift away from them he would come reeling back in like some sort of orphaned yo-yo.

He was the closest thing she had got to a sibling but he was also so far from it. He had been around a lot but not nearly as much as a sibling would have been; the relationship they held wasn't exactly that of siblings either. They loved each other in a way that families do: being accepting of each other no matter what, always being there for one another, protecting and aiding each other through every obstacle. No matter what would happen in either of their lives they would be there for one another. When hard times fell on him she made sure he knew that; she had done everything in her power to help him, even if it meant going against her mother's wishes.

Monica loved him too, claiming even to love him like a son, but her actions had proved that it wasn't exactly true. The instincts of a mother knew boundries and her mum had become extremely protective of her daughter. Delia was all that she had left in the world. Zach was gone, Jesse was gone, Dennis too. As much as it bothered Delia to see her mother cut her ties with Jesse she understood it. Doing so was what was best for their family, for her safety and Delia's as well. It was no wonder that her mother had been a Ravenclaw, using her logic and wit in such situations. But Delia was no Ravenclaw, and the loyal lioness had roared at her mother more than once about the injustices she felt were being done to Jesse.

Not just Jesse, no. To all of them. Friend or foe to Delia she didn't care, what the muggleborns were facing was inhumane and unjust. She refused to stand idly by and watch it continue without doing something to change it....something to help. She was only one person, a young girl against a heard of powerful death eater's wasn't exactly a fair match and she knew full well she couldn't take them all on-- but damn did she wish she could. If there was one thing she had learned from Jesse it was not to back down. And she hadn't, not from her mother or the guards of Kolna. She made her presence known to the registered muggleborns. She would not back down from standing up for them and she would not ever back away from them.

Of all things she had thought her mother would have understood that. With all of the children Monica helped, all the repeat visits she made to children living in abusing or neglectful house holds, she would always promise them that she would never back away from them. She would never give up on them. It was something she had heard her mother say a million times, but now it felt like hypocrisy. She had backed away from Jesse and all the other muggleborns when she chose to stay silent. And while Delia may have quieted her protests, she never quieted her actions.

If Kolna had still been home to the muggleborns she'd have likely been spending her entire summer there, just as she had last year. It was by the good graces of the new Minister that the assignment of their housing had been lifted and she was more than happy to know that many of them would be living in much better conditions. She had run into a few of them since summer had started. They would be sweeping streets or cleaning one shop or another and she would ask them how they were, where they were staying, things like that. The ones she had spoken to had at least been doing better than they once had been and that made her happy.

There was still an urge in her to help them but she didn't know quite how to anymore. Before she had supplied them with things that they needed, and now they had most of their basic necessities. So she had thought of just letting things be and letting herself enjoy the final summer before her Hogwarts career would end forever. Part of enjoying her summer was doing light reading; she had found a book in the library about magical photography and thought that it might be an interesting read. She had always enjoyed photography and thought of maybe working in publication once she graduated. What a better way to put her hobby to work?

Delia had noticed a figure in the corner of her vision approaching her just as the person she had asked for a seat had peeled their eyes from their book. She glanced over to see who was coming up to her, doing a double take as she realized just who it was. "Hey," she smiled briefly at him before turning back to the person sitting at the table before her. "Nevermind, sorry to bother you." Delia smiled politely at them as they shrugged and returned to their reading. Delia stepped peppily toward him with an amused expression. "Long time no see, how are thiiiings?" She raised her brow hinting that she was talking about the little secret he had divulged to her just a few days before. She stared at him blankly for a second. Reading anything? Oh, duh! They were in a library. Get with it D! "Oh, yeah--" she shook her head with a smile as she swung her backpack to her front taking out the book she had borrowed. "Yeah, just a really interesting read on, um....wizarding art history. Photographical history, more like. Are you...into photography? At all?" She made a little face feeling a bit awkward but still quite happy to see him seeming much more chipper than when she had seen him last.
