general appearance
relatively light-skinned, bright eyes. Tall, just under 178 centimeters, well-braced. (she's just under a head taller than Greg. It's lovely.) A curly head of hair, which benefits the Scots-Irish heritage, which used to be dirty blonde, turned brown, now is something like dishwater brown when not dyed.

She worked out a fair amount some decades ago, and she still likes to carry that on. Weapons practice, after all. She likes dying her hair, and the top of her hair often sports some bright color. Handful of old burns, though at times they’re covered by unguents, though she’s not quite so vain to do so when she’s not facing the camera.  Or wasn’t, at least. She’d like to continue, but...well. She never could refuse Greg or Odelia.

She's got the Skeeter mouth-- easy to twist into a smirk, easy to pull around. Greg thinks she looks realer when her burns are in view, and she agrees

skills
"Drinking. Smoking. Fighting. Not necessarily in that order." Gemma
"And fishing. I forgot that one, didn't I." there are more--

"I have a very nice smile. It makes getting what I want easier."
weaknesses
She's putty for her husband and sister-in-law.
Names, she struggles.
Little children-- see, she can deal with them once they start looking like people, but under 10, she's still not quite sure what to do.
Journalism-- she wants nothing said about that, but quite thankfully, Aunt Rita's report remained within the family.
Gemma really doesn't want to be near a hundred meters of dragons. Unfortunately, that can't happen if she visits her family.
positive traits
Adaptable, anticipative, articulate, athletic, charismatic, confident, courageous, discreet, flexible, hard-working, loyal, methodical, playful, practical, sociable
negative traits
Amoral, breezy, calculating, cynical, flamboyant, meddlesome, overprotective, opportunistic, self-indulgent, snappish, strong-willed, stubborn,
hobbies/interests
Theory of Magic (of course), Necromancy, the study and practice of magical weapons, Greg's family, exploring branches of magic. Oh, and fishing.
accomplishments
her year had the lowest turn out of people taking Divination as a course. Her influence.

Articles on Magical Theory, either published in books or Theory journals. They range in subject --  she's done wanded vs wandless, impacts of language families, Elementals, the differences between Clairvoyants and Seers, and more.
character history
Gemma Ninianne MacFusty -- and yes, that is her name, that is what she was born with, certainly not under Ninianne Gemma-- came into the world surrounded by smoke, fire, and salt.

That makes it sound rather more dramatic than it was, but she was born at home, rather than St Mungo's, it was a very rainy day, and the fireplace was pumped up to make up for the wind. She was born on one of the Unplottable Islands in the Hebrides, and the sea was swollen and crashing. Not that that makes it sound any less dramatic, but it happened often enough that Gemma simply got used to it.

She joined a sister for some time, and Gemma and Morgause's times were spent like any MacFusty child-- learning about their family history, and the beasts they cared for. Cousins took to it like a dragon to the air, and Gemma--

She mostly didn't care. She wanted off the islands, and her Hogwarts letter couldn't come soon enough. Once she got to Hogwarts, she was Sorted into Gryffindor without a moment's thought, put into the MacFusty House of Gryffindor. She made friends easily, and was called a "magnetic personality". Her views were most impacted by her friends, by Sebastian Flint and Eoin Macnair.  Her Fifth year she made Prefect, and two years later, Head Girl as well.

Oh, the Dark Lord was at the height of his power when she was in school. A fair amount of Gemma's friends were interested in joining, and Gemma considered. But they were all so radical, and Gemma was comfortable just supporting them. He also died during her Sixth year, and that was pretty fun, because there were students at Hogwarts who were heartbroken. Gemma comforted them as best as she could, and there were so many who were related to people who also died! She thinks that's the main reason why she was made Head Girl, mostly because she was good enough at it, and her scarlet-and-gold tie gained her trust a silver-and-green tie wouldn't. That was ridiculous, really, because most of Gemma's closest friends were in Slytherin.

She passed all her NEWTs, of course, and decided she might as well go and see about following in her family's footsteps, so she enrolled in Lig-Na-Paiste to see if there was anything really interesting. She made it through graduation, and shortly after, decided she was promptly doing something different-- anything different, really.  She tried Alchemy and History, and while she wasn't very much good at the first, decided it was good enough to learn. She was a MacFusty, after all. She didn't do dragons, but she had to do something. And she wasn't fit at all to be like Aunt Rita and carry on the legacy of writing because she'd tried, and Aunt Rita tore apart her effort. It made her even reluctant to write papers. Aunt Rita had a beautiful gift for that.

(she ended up dropping alchemy. she tried Education and Arithmency next. Those stuck more. Oh, she'd also become a self-defense teacher, but that was one of the smaller pieces of her life.)

It was in Arithmency that she'd met Gregory Wenlock, six years younger and six inches shorter. They were just friends at first, because Gemma was so much older. She graduated Lufkin, and started modeling as well as the study and practice of magical weapons-- her true focus in Lufkin's History department. Gemma also decided she wanted to learn more about one thing that struck her interest the most-- Necromancy. Raising the dead, of course, was impossible, but. . .

Seemings, maybe not. Flesh was flesh and blood was liquid, and bones were solid-- the human body was really a simple network. Animation of the network shouldn't be so difficult. Inferi, after all, were little more than that, and they were certainly able to be controlled. The years continued like that, and Gemma learned and practiced. People didn't really expect a model to have the desire for Necromancy, though weaponry was more understood. What woman sometimes hadn't felt the urge to curse off a director's hand, after all? Especially when they seemed so focused on her scars-- they tickled, after all!

She reconnected with Greg shortly after their graduation, and they started going out. They'd both grown up some, and Greg had matured a lot, mostly because his younger sister was showing him up. Gemma thought the whole sibling rivalry was pretty funny, but she'd never been close to Morgause, so there was that. Morgause always preferred their cousins, and Gemma had been quite content with that. Even going to her sister's wedding, she hadn't been in it, and no one had cared, least of all Gemma.

She and Greg did marry, though sooner rather than later. She thinks Delilah was born by then, maybe walking around. Hell, maybe she'd even been the flower girl at their wedding, for all Gemma really remembered of it. Or maybe it was some cousin Gemma didn't really know. Or even one of Morgause's girls, but she doubted that. Morgause's are younger, she thinks. Either way, it was while she was still in her first years of studying Necromancy.

Her life continued beautifully, and Gemma got along very well with her new sister-in-law. She quite enjoyed getting with her to make fun of Greg, and they discovered they were both friends with one of the Flint boys: Gemma with Sebastian, and Odelia with his brother Marcus. Life continued, and something exciting finally happened-- Aunt Rita's writing swooped up in popularity for the TriWizard Tournanment and the Dark Lord rose again. Really, Gemma was far more happy for the first, but the second did have some great benefits! The next year, her aunt refused to really write anything, likely in preparation for a book.

There was another war the year after, and really, it would have been tiresome, but something was finally happening! Her aunt wrote another brilliant book, and then the Ministry fell, and Aunt Rita's Quill was busy, so everything was good. The Dark Lord took over the Ministry, and some of Gemma's friends prospered. Gemma was thrilled for them, really. Things fell after a year, but Gemma was fine, because she'd never tried getting Greg to join and Aunt Rita's writing went on.

Odelia had another baby after that, and Gemma loved him just as much as she did her niece. Gemma's papers on Magical Theory-- oh? She hadn't mentioned them before? It was Aunt Rita's words that stepped her away from journalism, not other types. The old fear might linger some, but she'd been working on them for ages. Having Death Eaters as friends worked well in her favor when they'd taken over. So much to practice! She started lecturing at Lufkin, at Bangor, and some at Lig-na-Paiste, because she'd been a MacFusty and of course some of her papers had to do with theories about dragons.

Her friends struggled for a few years, Gemma finally dropped modeling, and life continued. Delilah and her brother went to Hogwarts, graduated, and Gemma continued on, enjoying the added free time to peruse her interests. Then Wentzell took power, and Gemma was really happy for her sister-in-law's friends, and Seb was made Headmaster. That was another great thing. Odelia was made Deputy after sometime , and it was really great. Seb's appointment made Gemma want to start teaching at the school where she'd made her escape.

When the new Theory of Magic professor left her job at the end of last semester, Gemma decided she might as well try. Sister-in-law as well as friend to the Headmaster? She'd know people, at least! She applied and received the position, and she's looking forward to a great many years.

family history
While Marie Skeeter didn't have her younger sister's gift for writing, she had a gift of another type-- she was quite fond of marine magizoology, something there was plenty of near islands with heavy practices of magic.

That's where Rusty came in, because Marie decided she wanted to visit the Hebrides and study there. She hadn't expected the dragons to be as wild as they were-- or to have a dragon land not a hundred meters from her. Marie had never gotten her Apparation license, because she'd never really passed the test. She was convinced she'd be a goner, but Rusty was nearby, and moved her away. After the two berated each other, they decided they quite liked doing so, and set up another time.

And another. And another.

When the berating died out, interest sprang up, and they settled down together. Marie didn't want be be in the whole arm of the MacFusty clan, but she still wanted Rusty to be doing what he loved, so they moved to smaller island when they got hitched. Morgause was born first, and Gemma a few years later.  They knew things that were going on, but they were somewhat protected on their island and with their dragons, They died some time after Gemma's wedding, from a case of Dragon Pox that shouldn't have gotten as serious as it was. (Gemma's very proud of the paper she wrote on them)

Also she’s decided she wants to be sick at some point so that she can keep her dyed hair. (gemma, it doesn't work like that. "look, if my magic's gone, I cannot re-dye this permanent hair dye.")

- can you DM me about this Hoplologist thing? I googled and it just says an expert in weapons which isn't necessarily a job! So I'm not going to add that one, and if you message me and explain it, I can add it if it makes sense!
