[attr="class","textboduni"]Things were tense. And that was putting it lightly. The epidemic had hit everyone hard. It was quite literally a national crisis, and it was turning the entire Shacklebolt family inside out. The only ones that had seemingly been spared were Kingsley, Zahra, and Audrey. The rest of them had suffered at the hands of... whatever this was. Even among Camilla's more distant family, cousins she hadn't talked to in years, the virus--Epidemic X, as it was being called--was a walking catastrophe. Their family was so embedded into the fabric of the magical world, it seemed so strange to see Shacklebolts losing their magic with each passing day. But that was exactly what was happening. Camilla had tried to make the best of it. She was pureblood, not ignorant--she knew how to survive without magic. But it still made up a huge part of who she was. It was a part of her job that she loved very much. And now... she had lost that part of her. Camilla hated herself for thinking it but--well, she was bloody Camilla Shacklebolt. She had made strides in the Auror Office after the war because of her duelling skill. And now she couldn't even summon a glass of water.
But now they were facing the aftermath of this epidemic. The University of Bangor seemed to be doing its best to rise out of the ashes. That much Camilla had expected. Meredith was a stubborn woman, and she had always been hellbent on getting things her way. It shouldn't have surprised anyone to see the lengths she was going to to make this happen. To reopen the doors of Bangor and keep all of their deserving students. But then there was Lufkin, and Kingsley had had to make a much tougher choice. They were a bigger school, there was more in the mix. More to worry about, and definitely more attention when it was Kingsley Shacklebolt calling the shots. Camilla had taken her younger brother for a walk off both their campuses, a chance to clear both of their heads and give Kings a chance to talk it out to someone that had always been and always would be his unwavering big sister. They had walked through a pumpkin patch, reminisced, and laughed, but it didn't change their very real present. Things had changed a lot lately. And hardly for the better.
Camilla wished she could do something to actually fix it all, but for now, she would stick to what she was good at: being there for people. She had always been the person to lean on, always the voice of reason. She cared about people. That was her thing, and... it was really the only thing that was mildly helping.
The large house was so quiet with just her and Avery, but Camilla had never been able to bring herself to leave it after raising three children in it. She hadn't even had it in her to empty out their bedrooms. Camilla strolled into the living room, two glasses of wine in hand, and settled in next to her husband on one of the couches, passing him one of the glasses. She needed a quiet night. Something normal and mundane. Something to remind her that not everything had gone to shit since this epidemic had hit them. "I think this is genuinely the first time I've sat down to do something not work-related in the last two weeks," Camilla admitted with a dry laugh. She really had let Bangor work take over her over the last little while.
