[attr="class","gummies"]Clio noticed two things in a tight formation of time. The first was that wasn't wearing a costume. The second thing was that Violet had just finished telling her that Arthur was likely on his way, and she felt like her heart was going to come out of her chest. He hadn't heard that, had he? She widened her eyes a fraction towards her friend, her arm moving to grip Vi's wrist. At Arthur's relative silence, she tried not to... frown? She wasn't sure what he reaction was, or what it was going to be. The stuttering was definitely something. She was torn between thinking it was cute and infuriating all at the same time. Why did he hate her so much? And why did it bother her so much? And why was she actually impressed that he didn't have a costume on?

She had told Alis and Octi that she wasn't going to be too fazed by any of this. She had promised that she was done with pining, that her crush was over and done with. And, well... It apparently wasn't. Arthur Stroud had looked at her and then looked away, but he was blushing, and all of a sudden Clio was very aware that her toga was just barely meeting the length that they were required to hit, and that her shoulders were actually mostly bare.

"Um, hi," she said, running a hand through her hair. She wasn't even attempting to be casual, she was just... Ugh. She looked at Vi as Arthur struggled to speak to her, and then she looked at the floor. Technically, this was her fault. He didn't like her, and she was standing there. Should she leave? She shouldn't have to give up Vi because her brother didn't like her. "Um... I can go... If you want..." It wasn't the smartest thing to say, nor was it the best thing. She honestly shouldn't even have given them the option, should she?

[attr="class","cbody"]Maggie had always liked the Halloween dances. They had been her favorite, every year. The dressing up, the decorations—there was nothing about it to dislike, in her opinion. Of course, the year before had been a little more somber than usual. It had been the first dance after the incident with that Gryffindor. Everyone was a little worried about what was going to happen and if everything would go smoothly, but it had. The night had gone well, and it had been a fun dance last year as well.
[break][break]
But she thought that there was a chance this year would be even better. In fact, she was almost certain of it. Last year she didn’t have Dario, or as good of friendships as she’d had last year. But Dario was definitely the biggest change of those two. Dating had never been something that she was all that good at. Guys didn’t really tend to notice her because she wasn’t leggy and blonde and charming, but for some reason, Dario didn’t care that she wasn’t any of those things. He liked her anyway, and that hadn’t happened before.
[break][break]
He had actually asked her out which meant that she had her first real boyfriend. She knew that sixth year was a little late for first boyfriends, but she was trying her best to get used to that whole idea. Maggie couldn’t say that she had any complaints so far. And when Halloween had approached, and they had decided to do a costume together, she had been even more excited.
[break][break]
There were so many great options to choose from, but she rather liked that they’d gone with Peter Pan and Tinkerbell. That had always been one of her favorite books growing up and the costumes were cute.
[break][break]
Maggie thought that tonight was going to be fun. She had no idea if they would end up staying here all that long or if Octi and the rest of them would have other plans. Maggie wasn’t much of a plan-maker herself but if they all wanted to go do something else—and they were invited, then she wouldn’t mind. She supposed they really just needed to see how the night went.
[break][break]
For now, she was happy to just be at the dance with Dario. She thought they’d need to track down Luna eventually too, because she was sure that her boyfriend’s sister was around here somewhere. “Am I?” She asked, with a smile. You are a pretty cute Peter Pan,” Maggie added, as she bopped him with her Tinkerbell wand.

I put a spell on you
Astraea had a hard time picking her costume, she would constantly go back and forth for weeks with her decisions. A zombie? to show the way her parents expected her to be in life A vampire? to represent her eternal youth and the way her family wished to suck the very life from her too soon. A plague victim? to show the plague that was her life? She simply could not decide so she chose all three.

Perhaps it was a little melodramatic but Astraea meant it all in good fun. Halloween was one of her favorite holidays and she planned to party harder than she should and just enjoy it. She walked into the great hall and saw many people she knew and recognized, she looked for her good friend @dima but he was busy with the new girl he had been hanging out with as of late. Astraea did not know if there was something more than friendship going on there and she did not really plan on asking. That was D's business and if he wanted her to know he would tell her.

Astraea did not plan to stay here long she was more interested in what after parties might be taking place later on. She did not typically go to school dances, she found the whole thing a little odd. However, it was interesting to come and see all of the costumes and who was with whom. She did not know if it was the holiday or what but it felt different at Halloween for her. She also hoped to see @artemis and the gang there as well, but she could not find them in the crowd. Realizing she did not see anyone else she finally decided to approach Dima and speak to him, better than to be a wallflower all evening. She walked up to him and tapped him on the shoulder "Hey D, happy Halloween" she said somewhat cheerfully.

Anything can happen on Haloween
It felt a little strange for Sawyer to attend these things. She still did not know many people yet after transferring in the middle of the year last year and with only one more year to go, she did not think she would get to know many more people before graduation. She did not purposely shy away from people it just seemed that everyone already had their own group and she still felt like an outsider most of the time. Quidditch helped and she certainly made friends there but it did not feel like it had back at Ilvermorny with her other friends. She debating about not going but she could almost hear the voice of her father in the back of her mind urging her and saying that she would never get to know new people if she did not go to these types of things. Sawyer's timid demeanor did not do her any favors and it made it more difficult for her to put herself out there, but for tonight at least, she was going to try.

She had to admit her dad would see the humor in the costume she chose. Little red riding hood she scoffed to herself, he would be laughing himself silly if he could see her. She made a mental note to tell him what she had worn in her next owl to him. She was worried about him especially with the full moon having been only a few days ago. She did not want to let her mind wander to that place though, she only wanted to think of the good things that were happening now instead of the many scenarios in which her father might not be okay without her.

As he had told her countless times, he was an adult and she should just try to focus on school instead of his wellbeing. Still, that was much easier said than done. Upon entering she saw several people she knew of but none she really knew. She did see @dima but he was with someone else talking so Sawyer decided to take a seat for now until she gained the courage to talk to some others.

halloween ball
the black swan

The Halloween ball was an event Oralie looked forward to above all other Hogwarts formal events. This dance more than the others gave students an opportunity to show themselves as they wished to be, or perhaps as they saw themselves. She enjoyed the grand displays. There were some costume decisions she might not have necessarily understood—like Kit’s, for example. Why would be wear a dress? With what had happened with Headmaster Flint before with a boy in a dress (sure, the child was a muggleborn), Oralie would have never taken the risk herself. She hoped tonight would devolve into a similar macabre display of brutality. She had not truly recovered from seeing that horror the first time. She was not made for such darkness. Her shadows were ones made of deceit, not violence or true evilness. She would never kill you with a blade, unless the blow was landed by the cold silver of tongue.

Her eyes continued to move over the crowd, being more impressed by some costumes than others. There were a few couples in matching get-ups. This earned a roll of her eyes and wrinkling of her nose. She hated the concept of a couples’ costume. Halloween was supposed to be about individuality and expression…not just finding another way to please your partner.

Perhaps thoughts like those were when she was so very single.

The Slughorn was freed from her moment of introspection as one of her beaters came over to her. She greeted Karel with a ladylike smile. The witch rolled her eyes at the comment her costume wasn’t bad. It was bloody well brilliant, but she was not going to just say that aloud. That sort of arrogance was unbecoming of a lady. Lady or not, she was still inclined to give the sly retort: “Thank you, yours is not the worst I’ve seen either.” Her smile flickered into a grin before settling back into her usual demure expression.

The other Slytherin continued with another question that confirmed that he was at least somewhat impressed by her get-up. The words earned him a soft chuckle. “Why it’s for me, of course! I have to up myself every year… Not many others around here would be worth this much effort.” She did not hate others the way purists did, but that did not mean Oralie cared for them. She did not like many humans all and all. They were crass and loud and messy—making a proper mess of the world.

A manicured brow arched up as she countered his playfulness with a coy joke of her own: “But why do you ask? Are you impressed?” She emphasized the last word—that hint of a grin coming back over her features giving Karel a glimpse beyond the lady she behaved herself as everywhere except the Quidditch Pitch. Only on the pitch did Oralie really let herself be free and embrace all of the wildness Ian had imparted to her.
