Renner Family Halloween Party

Octavia could not have imagined herself here, in this place and in this particular moment. A few months ago, she would have thought she would still be stuck in Pyxis around this time. Still sad and bored and restless. And a few years ago, she would have thought she would be at Hogwarts at this time, going to the Halloween Ball with Murdina, most likely. But no, that wasn't what her life was at all. Octavia was home--not at Pyxis or Hogwarts, but at home. Back with her parents. Back with her other little brother. It wasn't what she would have liked for herself, but it also wasn't horrible. It was... good. Maybe not perfect, maybe some things could have been better, but it was still good. Octavia had the people she cared for back in her life, and for the first time in a long time, she felt safe. Like she could go about untouched. Tav had a newfound confidence in her--one that had been buried under the years of torture and bad luck. She was feeling more and more like herself, even if she couldn't be back at Hogwarts.

At least, though, Octavia was on track to finish her muggle schooling... and she was on track with her animagus spell. It felt so long ago now, the first day she had put the mandrake leaf in her mouth. The twenty-fourth of August--a major risk, because Tav knew things wouldn't go well if she just refused to talk in her classes, or if she mumbled in some strange way. But then they had bee shuffled out of Pyxis before anyone could say anything and it was almost if the pieces had just fallen into place. As if everything had been meant to be. Octavia had gotten to go home. The weather had taken a turn for the cold, enough for dew to form in her backyard, so she had set aside a little patch, protected it so she could use it for the potion. And then when a month was over and the full moon was in the sky... she finished it. Every day since then, Octavia had set up alarms to remind herself to say her incantation every sunrise and sunset. She had kept an eye on the weather reports, waiting for an electrical storm.

And there was supposed to be one tonight, of all nights. Octavia didn't know if the timing was perfect or horrific. Because tonight was the night that she was going to be meeting Cas' parents, and that was a bloody big deal. Being a muggleborn, Octavia knew her way around a muggle Halloween party. That part of it would be fine--but she was still feeling a little nervous. Things had been going so well with Cas. Perfectly, really, and Tav just wanted his parents to like her as much as she liked him.

There was also the fact of the lightning storm, though, and Octavia trying to figure out if she could somehow take her potion and complete her first animagus transformation... or if she would have to wait for another lightning storm--and only Merlin knew when that would happen.

Lightning hadn't hit yet, though, and even the report said it wasn't a one hundred percent thing--so Tav had resolved to enjoy the night and go along with things as they happened. This process... it was a timely one. And she had known that going into it. She had just arrived and pulled her coat off, and Cas had been there to greet her. Octavia looked up at Cas with a wide grin on her face. "Would it be really cheesy if I made a big bad wolf joke?" she asked playfully.

Finally a chance to use this film in some way

Cassius was glad to be home, he’d hated being away from his parents and lying to them for so long, but he hadn’t been able to tell them what had happened, not until he was home safe so that they couldn’t do anything rash and stupid that would have definitely got them killed. His only issue with telling them everything that had happened was that they wouldn’t let him out of their sight now. It had been a fight to get them to allow him to visit Tav but after the first few visits, they relaxed a little; but only when it came to him seeing his girlfriend, anything else they refused to let him go without either his mum or dad joining him.

When he’d finally settled into a routine with his parents and got used to being home and safe, they’d arranged for him to have a private tutor to update him on his muggle education, his parents were against him going back to Hogwarts or the Wizarding world as a whole, not that it really mattered if the news articles were anything to go off. Teachers losing magic was troubling for the students no doubt but then there was also the fact, not if the educational departments or the school were anything to go off, they still seemed to pretend that Muggleborns didn’t exist, it was infuriating and he’d hate to admit it, but he was just getting used to it now. Being hardly thought of or even treated like a human being.

Cas had considered just furthering his muggle education, going to college and University but he wasn’t sure what, he’d settle for the fact that he’d probably just follow in his parent's footsteps and study law, but he could also study music. There were a few options, but right now for Cassius; he really wasn’t interested in a magical career, especially if there could be a risk of history repeating itself.

The wizard was stood in the foyer talking to his parents and politely greeting guests. Most seemed interested in only talking business but a few had stopped to ask Cassius how things were going, but as it was he had very little to tell them. What could he do? Oh hey, yeah I was abducted from my school, put into special living accommodations, beaten and starved and watching people die and then when that passed, I was locked into a school! Why? Oh, because I’m a Mudblood. Yeah, he doubted conversations like that would go down well. Instead, all he could do was shake their hand, smile politely and say his studies were going well. A blatant lie, but one Cassius wished he could reverse given the chance. He wanted to be studying now, it was something he’d never wanted but now it had been stolen from him, he did.

Cassius was talking to his father’s partner for his law firm when he spotted a head full of curls enter the building and he apologised to the older man and dismissed himself, going over to Octavia and kissing her cheek. ”Hi babe, if you make a big bad wolf joke I’ll make a bloodsucking one.” He said shooting her a cheeky grin before resting his hand on her back and moving her to the side as a couple walked in. ”How are you? You look amazing.” He told her with a grin, adjusting his hat that had wolf ears sticking out.
