[break][break]
[attr="class","cbody"]A Saturday in the past would have likely meant that she would go into the Ministry and make use of their training rooms or go to the gym… or she would stay at home and try to entertain herself there. Sure, sometimes she went out with her friends for a drink, but most of the time she had to admit that she didn’t necessarily have the most active social life. She was far more focused on auror training and hadn’t had all that much time to worry about anything else.
[break][break]
She didn’t think that there was anything wrong with being focused on that. All that she wanted to do was succeed in that--be the best trainee out of their lot, and that was proving to be more difficult than she had expected.
[break][break]
At first, she had found it incredibly frustrating that Fitz was amongst them, acting like he didn’t care and getting special treatment because his brother was the head of the aurors’ office. It didn’t feel like he was taking any of it seriously, but somehow, he still managed to do annoyingly well. Being paired up with him had made it even worse, especially when they’d had to practice going undercover. She had known that there were people there watching them, and all they managed to do was argue--and certainly not act the part of a couple that they had been posing as.
[break][break]
That had been incredibly irritating, and she hadn’t exactly known how they were going to pass that unit, especially if they couldn’t even get through the night.
[break][break]
She hadn’t expected the night to take the turn that it had.
[break][break]
After all, she had just told him to act the part so that they could just pass the actual assignment and he had told her that kissing her would definitely be acting the part. It had just… escalated. And then one time had gone to another and had ended up with her in his kitchen and them deciding that they were going to date.
[break][break]
No one knew about that yet--not even Vie. She didn’t know why she hadn’t told her sister that she was actually dating Fitz. She just didn’t want it getting back to her parents yet. Her father especially. Lia wasn’t sure that he would even care, or say anything, but if he did… well, she thought that might even be worse. That she could only get his attention by dating someone that he deemed more interesting than he could ever find her.
[break][break]
She didn’t want to find that out yet. She didn’t want to know what he would say or do, so she was keeping it to herself for now. Of course, she had risked sneaking him into the house a few times, just to see if anyone would notice. They hadn’t, and that was fine by her. There was a reason she had taken the risk to begin with, after all. She honestly had no reason to think that anyone would even notice.
[break][break]
The only one that might would be her mum, but even she was so busy sometimes that Rosalia could get away with sneaking her boyfriend into the house.
[break][break]
Tonight had not been about sneaking, however. Instead, she and Fitz had gone out on a date--which had given her an excuse to wear a dress she’d bought months ago, and she rather liked it. She had been tempted to take him up on the offer to go to his house but, unfortunately, she’d had plans in the morning and it made more sense for her to go back home.
[break][break]
It was a little late, so she thought that she might be able to sneak in without anyone even realizing that she hadn’t been home. But the second that she stepped through the foyer and into the great room, she saw her sister. “Oh. Hi,” she said, recovering from her surprise quickly.

[attr="class","textbodmin"]Working Saturdays was far from Vie's idea of an ideal weekend. But ever since she had lost her magic, she had been trying to fill her life with... everything. And anything. She might have been stuck on desk duty, but Vie was determined to make the best of it. Being without her magic was horrible and it ate away at her every day, but it also meant that she could spend more time at the psychology clinic. More time working on her hypnosis research. It was something Vie needed just to remind herself that she wasn't that useless. That, despite her magic being gone, despite feeling for the first time in her life like she had so little to offer, she could still do something important. Still leave her mark, somehow. Vie wasn't used to the feeling of weakness and impotence. This... was uncharted territory for her. She was used to having all the answers. Used to being the one with the composed smile no matter what hailstorm of madness might have been happening around her. Vie's resolve hadn't felt this shaky since... since a time she didn't like to think on.

The whole of the wizarding world was suffering, though, and that made Vie feel a little less isolated. At least, everyone else was just as lost in this mess as she was. Everyone else was just as clueless. Obviously, being among the average was far from Vie's idea of normalcy, but it was a starting point. It was something, at least. She hated being dependent, or anything like that, but as of late... it had been easier to open up in that respect. To other people, that is. Which had never before been something that Vie would have considered a good idea, but she had a feeling that it was helping her cope with the whole ordeal. Seeing Ivan go through the exact same thing as her had been painful in its own way--on an emotional level--but at the same time, it had been comforting to have someone that she could talk to so... freely. Someone that may as well have been able to read her own thoughts.

Things were settling down now, a little bit. People still didn't have their magic, but everyone was trying to return to things like normal. And so was Vie--although she had tried her damndest to keep things perfectly normal even in the midst of her fever. But in the midst of everything, timing had been... rubbish. There was no other way to put it. This epidemic had come at the worst of times, and the outcome had been that Vie actually hadn't talked about Ivan to... well, anyone. Not her parents. Not even Lia--and that was saying a lot, because they told each other nearly everything. It wasn't like she had done that on purpose, but with everything going on, Vie had just assumed it was far from a first priority. Now that the dust was settling, though, and everyone was being prompted to return to their normal lives, it almost seemed like the next natural thing. Besides, as far as secrets went, this certainly did not qualify as one that needed to be kept in Vie's books. That title was reserved for the secrets that were potently destructive.

With her work day over, though, Vie had returned home for the evening and decided to just... relax, for once. To do something for herself, without some ulterior motive behind it, because Vie honestly couldn't remember the last time she had done that. She had been on one of the coaches in the great room reading, when Vie heard the lock to the front door turn. Her head snapped up and her eyes quickly landed on... "Lia." Vie shut her book and placed it in her lap, placing her hands over it. Her eyes narrowed for a moment as they focused on here little sister, taking in her outfit, and then Vie raised an eyebrow as a small smirk appeared on her face. "And where have you been?" she asked curiously.

[break][break]
[attr="class","cbody"]There was no reason in particular that she hadn’t told her family that she was dating Fitz. Well, she supposed that she did have her reasons--and they depended on what family member she was talking about at the time. She hadn’t told her mum because she knew that she would be happy and excited and genuine, and that would be good. But then she would want her to tell her father or tell him herself. And that was the last thing that she wanted.
[break][break]
Honestly, she couldn’t think of a good reason to tell her father about her personal life or who she was dating at all. She had always wanted more attention from him than she’d ever managed to get. He had always been too focused on Vie to pay her much mind--and when he wasn’t focused on his eldest daughter, he was at work. Or with his mum. She knew that her parents loved each other so much that it was actually sickening… and adorable too, but if she were to rank her father’s priorities in order of most to least important, she thought that she would end up after his dog and somewhere before picking up his dry cleaning.
[break][break]
If she told him that she was dating Fitzgerald Yaxley, she thought that she could expect one of two reactions. Either he wouldn’t care, or he would care too much. The former would be typical and yet would somehow still manage to hurt, but the latter would be worse. The latter would mean that he was somehow more interested in her now that she had managed to land a relationship with someone that had power in the Ministry and a good last name.
[break][break]
She didn’t want him to be interested in her because of who she was dating. So really, none of those options sounded good to her, and that meant that she couldn’t tell her mum--it would get back to him somehow. And she obviously couldn’t tell him. That wasn’t something that didn’t require much explanation.
[break][break]
The only reason that she hadn’t told Vie was to try to continue to avoid the inevitable ‘I told you so’ that she would be in for. She had made the mistake of ranting to her sister on several occasions about how annoying she found Fitz in their training--and then she had told her about the night that they had shagged. Vie had been certain there would be a second time and that was when Rosie had stopped telling her about it. Her sister was nearly always right. It was freakish.
[break][break]
Rosie would tell her eventually, of course. Her sister was her best friend. It was honestly strange for her to keep anything from her for that long. She told her just about everything. The only thing that she didn’t talk about with Vie was how bad her bad days got, when she started thinking about their dad. She didn’t want to put her in the middle of that, and she had long since learned that it would only ever result in her hearing more excuses about how he loved her and just didn’t know how to show it.
[break][break]
It wasn’t that she thought he hated her or anything like that. But it didn’t change the fact that he never gave her the time of day and she had no reason to think that was ever going to change.
[break][break]
Thinking about her father was not going to be how she ended this night. She was going to hold onto this good mood for as long as it lasted, even if she was starting to think it would have been a good idea to take Fitz up on his offer to spend the night at his place. It wasn’t like anyone would have noticed if she hadn’t come home for a night. Her father’s watch didn’t have a ‘snuck out to spend the night at her boyfriend’s’ hand on it.
[break][break]
Was it too late to turn around and head back to Fitz’s? Now that she had seen Vie sitting there, she knew that it was. “Me? Oh, I was just… out.” Godric, she should have come up with an actual excuse, but she hadn’t thought that she was going to run into anyone in her family the moment that she walked in the door. “With some people from work,” she added, deciding that clarifying might help her case at this point.

[attr="class","textbodmin"]Vie needed things to go back to normal. And soon. She hated not having her magic, practically reduced to a Squib. It made her shiver just thinking of it. She was a fantastic witch. There was no point in denying that. Maybe Vie hadn't been the one to get Head Girl--leave that to the Ravenclaw, of course--but she had done well in school. The best, or one of the best, at nearly everything. Vie stood out when it came to duelling, charms, all of it. She was that one pureblood in her Muggle Studies classroom, because she had always been a firm believer in keeping one's enemies closer... and maybe people hadn't talked about that anymore when she had been in school. Maybe those had been difficult times for purebloods and children of Death Eaters. But Vie knew that there was some advantage to being a wolf in sheep's clothing. And that was what she was trying to do, really. That was what she always did. And it worked, because she was a powerful witch with a good name to back her up.

Now, though, she felt like nothing.

She was really trying to focus on the good things. Without much field work at the Ministry, Vie had a lot more time to focus on her research at the psychology clinic. That was still going well, and working with an old professor definitely made things feel like they were not quite as horrible as... as they really were. And then there was Ivan--which, Vie would admit, had been a very welcome source for distraction. Both of them being without their magic was definitely difficult, but Vie thought that in the moments they had together, it was very easy to focus on other things. She hadn't expected this. At all. Vie had always thought that being fortunate enough to have something like her parents, with someone that fit--that was practically a fairytale. But then, here they were. Quite literally a silver lining on a horrible day. Vie had been late for lunch with her father because of the elevator stopping that day. But she had also gotten to know more about someone that she had only known as Lord Ivan Warrington.

And now, it was Ivan. Just Ivan. None of it felt forced or difficult. It was probably one of the few times in her life that Vie felt comfortable. Like she didn't have to do everything alone. Which was strange to come to terms with, because Vie had spent most of her life thinking she would be alone, in everything. In managing the Urquart accounts, in holding her own at every showy party. And she was fine with that, really. In fact, Vie had been against letting anyone into her own little resolve... until Ivan. Vie felt confident--not just about him, but about them. Vika kept taking credit, naturally, but all that aside, there was one very obvious thing left for Vie to do... and that was to introduce Ivan to her father. Because Vie didn't feel like this was something to keep from him. There was no reason, after all. She was happy, and Ivan was the Warrington heir. Everything fit like a perfect puzzle. Bran Urquart was protective of his family, yes, but Vie didn't see any reason for him to be against this. And if he was, she was fairly confident she could make her case without much issue. Call it a gut feeling.

Vie could sniff lies out like a bloodhound. It was a handy skill for an Obliviator to have, and it came in especially useful with her little... affair. After all, it wouldn't do to tarnish the Urquart name with one measly misjudgement of character. But Lia--her sister didn't quite have that down. And even if she did, Vie knew her well enough. The smirk on her face persisted as Rosie answered her. "Is that so? You're... very well-dressed," she commented observantly. Shifting over on the couch, Vie patted the spot next to her. "Why don't you sit down and tell me about this night out with people from work." Her words were missing the inflection of a question. Vie was not in the habit of making requests, and she was curious.
