[attr="class","textbodsquib"]Marlena was still getting used to Ireland. She had spent half her life in Hel, Poland, which had been... nice enough. Poland was home, and so much of her family was still there. But then they had all moved to Scotland--and then the Scottish coast had won her heart. She loved it. In fact, Marlena had even started cheering on Team Scotland after that move, because she loved it. That was how she met Kian, after all. That was how she had met Kes, and how she had ended up going to Stirling House, and spending a great deal of her time making muggle friends... but at the end of the day none of that mattered. Squib or not, Marlena didn't really want to leave the magical world. Not fully, anyways. Fitness modelling was applicable everywhere, and the whole extreme athlete thing was admired by a lot of people--especially those that were magical and couldn't imagine flying without a broom.

But Ireland was new. Marlena had just moved to Galway, to be closer to school. Yet another very new thing. She had never imagined she would be going to school after Stirling House. Lena couldn't sit still, and things hadn't clicked. She was a problem-solver and a quick-thinker, but didn't know much beyond that. But this year had changed things. She wanted to be at Bukowski Brooms more, and going to law school seemed like a good way of doing that. It was strange, and definitely difficult, but Marlena was loving it. A lot. And she knew she was making both of her parents a little proud, which was a nice change, at the end of the day. She still hadn't gotten quite used to Ireland, though, and that was what today was about.

Marlena had decided to drive to Cork. Any sane person would have stuck around Galway to get to know the university city better, but Marlena wanted Cork. Because she had heard about the bridge, and she thought it was a lot like her. Stuck somewhere between magical and muggle, not quite one or the other but more... a bit of both, if you knew where to look. And the view was really pretty. Marlena leaned her forearms on the bridge railing, cup of coffee in hand as she overlooked the River Lee with a soft smile. She figured she could get used to Ireland, for the next four years. This was actually kind of peaceful.

Ready Set, Ready Set Let's Go

[break][break]
[attr="class","cbody"]It was cold.
[break][break]
That was the first thing that Cami thought of when she’d left the house that she’d been tasked with coming to today. Obviously, she’d come here with a coat. She wasn’t absolutely moronic and it was nearing on being officially winter. And in Ireland, she felt like that change came even sooner. But it wasn’t raining, and it was relatively sunny out, so she knew that she could certainly be in a worse position than she was now.
[break][break]
But still, it was hard to ignore the chill in the air when her coat was lying on the floor of the house she’d just left, partially torn by a bitter Death Eater’s knife and the rest of it more than a little ruined with blood. She supposed she could have taken it on her way out, but she’d thought that walking around Ireland with a blood-soaked jacket would elicit more than a few stares, and that was something that she was definitely trying to avoid.
[break][break]
All things considered, she wasn’t in too bad of shape. Magic had given those that had free reign to torture her endless amounts of choices on just what they wanted to do. Without magic, they had less, and most people hardly knew what to do with that. The man had barely gotten a few swipes of his knife in before his work had called him away, anyway, and she had decided that cleared the rest of her day.
[break][break]
Cami certainly wasn’t going to willingly go back to the Ministry and tell them that she needed to be assigned somewhere else for the day. No, they thought that she would be in Ireland so that was where she was going to stay.
[break][break]
She had stopped into a Muggle pharmacy and had bought a few meager first aid supplies with the little Muggle money she’d saved up in the past weeks. She’d at least managed to get some bandages and antiseptic, which she’d put on in the store’s bathroom before heading out into Ireland again.
[break][break]
With that settled, her only problem truly was the cold, and it was tolerable. She would gladly deal with it if it meant having a day in Ireland to herself. Merlin knew that she could use the time to relax and to try to think through everything that was going on. Not just the epidemic that she thought might very well be changing everything soon, but also about Dorian. About how she had lost everything with him because she’d thrown years of sobriety down the drain—but the moment she’d gone through withdrawal, the moment that she could try to start fresh, he’d fallen off the wagon and now she had no idea how he was doing.
[break][break]
She wanted to see him again, she wanted to fix things, except now he was a danger to her sobriety. It just never felt like they were at the same place, at same time. There was always something stopping them—something holding them back from actually being together.
[break][break]
It was then she realized that she’d been so lost in her thoughts, she was passing over a bridge and hadn’t even noticed it. It was quite beautiful. Nice enough to linger for a second, maybe, while she figured out what she wanted to do with the rest of her day. She couldn’t just walk around Cork until nightfall. She’d get too cold and too tired for that eventually.
[break][break]
Sighing, she leaned against the railing and looked out at the river. Despite the circumstances—like the fact that she’d never actually been to Cork before today and she’d come here to get tortured, she found that it really was kind of nice here. Glancing over, she realized that there was a woman looking out at the river only a few paces away from her and she couldn’t help but ask. “Excuse me—do you know what river this is?” She didn’t know why she was curious, but she was. Her upbringing didn’t involve the best of schooling and she hadn’t learned about geography and rivers in Hogwarts, clearly.

[attr="class","textbodsquib"]Marlena's childhood had been engrossed with Quidditch--which was the sort of thing that got people doing a double-take. She was a Squib. It made no sense. Those that were apt enough, though, and quick to make a connection, would have their aha moment. A Wroński, of course. But then even that would still be followed by the confused frown as they tried to understand how and why Marlena was so invested in Quidditch. Because she definitely was invested--it wasn't just some weird enforcement by her father. In fact, she was fairly sure he couldn't care less if she watched Quidditch games religiously. It wasn't as if she could actually play. It was one of the many reasons, Marlena figured, that her relationship with her father was strained. All of her brothers had gone on to play Quidditch. She should have, too. Or, at the very least, she might have joined the ranks of Bukowski Brooms alongside her mother.

But no--that was not her life. She was just a Squib that knew a little too much about Quidditch and broom-making.

Marlena had embraced that, though. She didn't need to be a Wroński. She was just... Marlena. Her own person. After all, her father had been the one to send the Wroński name sailing into Quidditch fame. Legacy-forging was in her blood, and whether he liked to admit it or not, Marlena was very similar to her father. Mannerisms, attitude, appearance... well, there was no point of getting into that. Marlena was a Squib--but she had that trademark adrenaline-seeking personality that seemed to run in the family. She had ambitions, and a brightness about her that refused to be put out. Marlena had always been determined to maintain her place in both worlds.

Her father hadn't cared all that much about her moving to Ireland. Her mother had made a point of reminding her to set up a Floo connection one too many times. Adam had insisted on visiting constantly, and the rest of her brothers had simply shrugged and said good job, młodsza siostra. Marlena tried not to take it personally. She had a resolve. Law school, a staff attorney position at Bukowski Brooms, the flourishing of her name in the world of extreme sports... things would fall into place, she just needed to work hard. So she had made a road trip out of her move, and now she lived in Galway, and went to university--something she hadn't even planned on doing before, when she had graduated from high school. Still, this was good for her. Marlena could just tell.

The road trip to Cork had been spontaneous. Kes had been too busy to find his way over and tag along, but Marlena was itching to get out. Maybe she would go for a hike or something, if there were some good trails nearby. Or get a very early start on her Christmas shopping. Marlena's head perked up at the sound of a voice, and her gaze turned toward its source. She smiled lightly at the woman. She looked a bit older than Marlena, and--Morgana above, not even a jacket on this cold weather. "It's the River Lee," Marlena answered. "Are you cold? You can have my flannel..." she trailed off, her hands going to unknot the plaid shirt tied around her hips. Marlena swung it off her hips and stretched her arm out to hand it to the woman. It was cold, sure, but her sweater was enough, and she wasn't using the flannel anyways.
