general appearance
pretty, light-ish red hair? it's like dark strawberry, or orange, she's never really understood the difference. She either wears it down, or braided around her head, there's not much in-between. A pretty round roughly heart-shaped face, a few freckles, bright eyes under eyebrows that are not thankfully too pale to disappear against her skin. She's not the shortest of her siblings, that's important to have down.

Oh, she's also got what might kindly be called a "beauty mark" on her leg.

skills
NAVIGATING NEW YORK:  The usual places No-Majs know, and the Sixth Borough
QUICK WALKING:  Her legs may not be especially long, but she will outpace you. If she's walking at your speed, she likes you
READING A MAP:
DIRECTIONS:
FINDING HER WAY AROUND AREAS SHE'S NEVER BEEN:
She doesn't have a problem with getting lost. She's maybe gotten lost six times, and that's because people didn't follow her directions.
LYING: This doesn't need any explanation
BALANCE: Petra's been on the subway and buses since her parents died. She of course, never wanted to hold on, so made a good sense of balance, which translates pretty well to Magical Combat.
GIVING BAD LUCK: People who she doesn't like usually tend to find they have a lot of this.
HISTORY OF SPELLS: Want to know why a spell is usually pronounced this way, the evolution of the term, or how it differs from langauge to language across time? She's your girl.
weaknesses
EXPLAINING DIRECTIONS IN WAYS PEOPLE LIKE: She gives them like a native speaking to another native, not someone who doesn't really know the area.
COOKING: That's Dahlia's area of expertise, because her drink magic is close enough. Petra's more likely to set off the smoke-alarm spells.
POTIONS: They're not that different, really.
BEING BORED: She really tends to encourage and join in with Ward more than what's wise.
HER SIBLINGS, OF COURSE
HER FORMER NAME: Of course no one here knows her name was Kayli before, but if someone's named that, they suddenly find themself the recipient of Bad Luck.
FAILURE: She doesn't deal with it well.
NOT BEING ABLE TO SHARE: Share and care, that's her saying. If she can't share-- people, research, experiances-- it annoys her. It's different if it's one of her siblings who can't share, but if she has something they don't, it makes her uncomfortable.
PUREBLOODS: Look, her family's from the United States, and she's from New York. She's used to governments being controlled by those with money, but she's not the greatest at liking this whole bowing and scraping as she calls people Lord and Lady.

character history
Aradia. Ward. Dahlia. They're the only ones who matter.

She was born Kayli Kolgrim, and her distaste for the name started at an early age, it must be said. She was a loud, noisy baby, and didn't really. . .stop. Her first word was apparently "No!" if you ask Charity and Johannes. Not that you really can, they're dead. She reached toddlerhood, and it was an adventure-- magic kept bursting out at inopportune moments, even if it was something as small as her blanket becoming more and more full of holes. Anyway, even in New York City where No-Majs don't look twice at passing magic, her parents decided that they needed to raise her in the magical Sixth Borough (scattered across the City, as well as on North Brother Island) to make sure that she brought as little attention as possible.

So that's where she spent the beginning of her childhood, with other children who also couldn't control their magic and in places where that was attempted to be subdued and where it wouldn't bring much attention. She didn't really make friends, as she had a quick temper and was quick to take offense at almost anything. that was normal though, that was okay. It was expected for magic to burst out then, or for kids to turn violent, but Kayli wasn't like that. There might be some baked goods stolen and found in the pockets of the kids she didn't like, or somehow they'd get hurt falling. Childish sorts of things, but she was a child.

Her parents had saved up for some time, and had decided to take a trip to . . .somewhere. She doesn't really remember and it's not important. Anyway, they died in an accident and it was apparently tragic that they didn't have many people at their funeral. Johannes's parents had died young, and Charity had been disliked enough from her family that they didn't come to her funeral. Kayli was then taken to New Heritage by some friend of her father's.

And she meet Aradia there, and Ward. A beautiful girl, seemingly confident in the world, who seemingly knew everything she was doing, and Ward who always had a laugh, a smirk, a fun game. They didn't laugh at her name-- much-- and she fell in love with them, if you could call it that. They were better than everyone she'd ever met. They were a good circle of three then, and then Dahlia came. They weren't really called by those names then, but that's what she knows them as. Three turned to four, and Dahlia was a piece they didn't know was missing. They'd all fit together well before that, but Dahlia made them better, connected with them, and it was entirely seamless. Aradia had been there the longest, and pretty soon after Dahlia's arrival, she couldn't remember a time without them.

They all got their Ilvermorny letters, and they all chose their same house. They were almost never separated, and that was best for them. Upon their graduation, they chose new names for themselves, deciding to take the last name Aradia had picked. She was the first of them, after all, the one who had had to be alone before they came, and she was their leader besides. They went to Picquery College, and chose different aspects of what could be judged of one thing, and the Laveaus were a wild, reckless, and focused bunch, too tightly spun together for anyone to get between them. They moved because they'd heard about Locksley, and decided it might be worth a shot.

And it's a great shot, really. Except Petra caught the sickness right before the universities closed, and she's magicless.

family history
As Petra barely knows and barely cares about this section as it's meant to talk about the people who-- one gave birth to her, one gave her a last name. That's it, really. They don't particularly matter, and a better family history can be drawn from looking at the history of her siblings. They're the Laveaus, after all-- not the Williams or Kolgrims or Sinclairs or Gradneys.

Faith Wilkinson was a descendant of famed MACUSA Auror and President, Charity Wilkinson. Charity passed on her own name to her children, blah blah blah. Faith was disowned for something or other, and she met Johannes Kolgrim at some point or another in their lives. Probably at Ilvermorny, or something like that. Faith and Johannes presumably got along well enough for have a child.

And then they died in an accident. So long, farewell.

For a more important family history:
@aradia 's the protector, the dominant force and leader. And they're happy with that. When they all decided their names, everyone took Aradia's because she's like their older sister-- is, really, as she was the first at New Heritage. They found each other there, and they became great friends. They protected each other, and went off to Ilvermorny together, where they chose Horned Serpent. They formally changed their names when they came of age to reflect their kinship.
