I can't handle these pressures
All I can say is, this stress hurts
Things are supposed to get better
I just need to put myself first
@christopher | outfit: no hat

Law was the plan. It was what his parents had been grooming him for since....well, practically since his adoption. Alright, that was a bit of an exaggeration. Regardless! He had heard the word lawyer thrown at him in a hundred different sentences since he was old enough to remember-- though he had an idea as to where it's origins came from. There was a vague memory of trying to keep his sister out of trouble. She hadn't done anything wrong, at least that was how he recalled it, and pleaded her case with his parents to keep her from punishment. Apparently his argument had been good enough. She hadn't gotten in trouble and from that moment on it was Dionysus, the future lawyer.

There were aspects of Law that interested him, though he couldn't say he was entirely sold on the profession just yet. The research, the piecing together of the puzzle, that was interesting...albeit not the funnest thing in the world. Nys supposed if the cases were especially juicy it would be interesting, but just last week he sat through preparations on tax evasion and....Merlin, he didn't think he could sit through many of those. The grand cases, now, that was something he thought he might like to see.

In truth his favorite part of Law was the grandeur of it all. The trials, the arguments, the drama. As quiet and mousy as Nys tended to be he always had a love for drama. A silent love. One he tried to keep to himself, even keeping it from his friends. He had made it many years in Drama club without being found out, though if he ever were found out he didn't think they'd pass any ill judgement. In fact he was sure that Erebos would give him a great deal more flack about what tie he wore in a play more than he'd ever haze him over being in a play.

Today he wasn't sure what to expect. Grandeur or boredom. No matter the case he'd engage himself. Ina and Pita wouldn't expect anything less from him than his best behavior during his internship. Dionysus walked with purpose through the lobby as he started toward the Lawyer's offices. It was a different Lawyer every day it seemed, sometimes even real Wizengamot members would precept him. Today it was a.... He fumbled with the slip in his blazer pocket, taking it out and quickly reading it. His blue eyes moved down the hall reading door after door before finding the match.

Dionysus rapped on the closed door, straightening his blazer as he finished. Merlin, please don't let it be another one from the Tax Division.

[attr="class","cbody"]For a while after the epidemic had hit, his only focus had been helping keep the Ministry running by any means possible. It had not been easy back then, with more than half of their staff sick, and everything nearing on chaos. Somehow, they had just barely managed to scrape it together, to keep everything going, but he knew that that could change at any time. Yes, they had gotten past the initial sickness, which was good. But things were still slow going.
[break][break]
They were all trying to adapt and certain departments in the Ministry needed help with that more than others. There were some jobs that just couldn’t get done without magic—like the work of the Obliviators office, for one. And obviously, it was important for there to be enough obliviators staffed. They couldn’t be short-staffed, they couldn’t risk there being too much work for them to do and not enough of them to do it. That would end with mistakes, and that could mean exposure… and right now, that was not something that they could risk.
[break][break]
Exposure was a troubling thought at the best of times. Even for someone who was around Muggles on a semi-regular basis, who saw them in no way inferior to wixen—just different. There were still so many reasons why the magical world needed to be kept from Muggles. It was just safer that way. The risks—well, he could go on and on about them, because they were countless. Magic could be considered a threat, or something to try to get for themselves, or a dozen other reactions that could send the world into chaos. No, it was important for the status quo to remain the same, and that meant keeping everything in the Ministry running as smoothly as possible.
[break][break]
But since his work was mostly back to normal now, he was back to his regular days—case work, research, meetings… all very exciting, of course. Law was something that he had been interested in for as long as he could remember, and he had been fortunate enough to make quite the name for himself over the years. A ninety-five percent conviction rate was nothing to scoff at, after all.
[break][break]
That was amidst successfully raising Maya too, something that he was quite proud of. It didn’t have anything to do with the fact that he had managed to balance his career and being a father when Mac hadn’t had that capability at all.
[break][break]
Well, maybe it was slightly about that.
[break][break]
But when Maya was at school, he had more time to focus on work, which had certainly been good as of late. There was never a shortage of work to be done here these days. When he heard a knock at the door, for a moment he didn’t know who it could be. Most of the time, he had his schedule for the day down, including meetings. But the moment his mind more fully pulled away from the notes he’d been reading, his eyes moved to the memo he’d received this morning. Right. He had an intern today.
[break][break]
It wasn’t the first time he’d had an intern and he was sure that it wouldn’t be the last. Sometimes they were bright and willing to learn, other times they were lazy, and he couldn’t wait to get rid of them. There was no way to tell what he was going to get just yet. “Come in…” He said, after a moment’s pause.

I CAN'T HANDLE THESE PRESSURES
ALL I CAN SAY IS, THIS STRESS HURTS
THINGS ARE SUPPOSED TO GET BETTER
I JUST NEED TO PUT MYSELF FIRST
The sickness plaguing the wizarding world was a nasty one. Ina had caught it and had been sicker than a dog for nearly a month. Not that he had seen her that way. He was tucked away safely in Scotland while his adoptive mother laid up in Pyxis and lost her magic. Pita was lucky enough to have dodged the illness when it was at it's peek, claiming that fraternizing with only dragons had it's perks. He wasn't so lucky any more, though. By the end of winter break his adoptive father had started showing signs of having contracted the illness. Just when the spread of the illness was seemingly on it's way out...

One thing was relatively clear about the illness and that was that children of his age weren't catching it. At least they hadn't yet. No one really understood why and that was frightening. He knew a bit about how things at a cellular level could mutate. Ina had gone on and on about it when a batch of a well sought after wine went bad due to mutated bacteria spawned during the fermentation process.  The way he saw it, it was simply a matter of time before whatever this illness was mutated as well. He was safe for now but for how much longer?

Having an internship made that worry a little stronger. At school he was at least safe. No one there had contracted it yet and if they would have just left the ban on student travel as it were no one likely would fall ill. Alas, that safety net had fallen through a while ago-- and here Dionysus was in probably the second worst place to be during an epidemic. Second only to the hospitals. The Ministry was a very busy place. The division of Law seemingly never had a moment of peace and that was merely one branch of a much larger tree of government. He supposed at the very least he should be happy to have things to keep him busy during his internship. It would be a waste to risk exposure over sitting idly behind a desk all day.

Dionysus stepped into the office upon invitation, closing the door behind him as it were. "Good morning, Mr. Poole," he greeted with extended hand. Handshakes were very important, even in times of epidemic outbreaks-- or so his Pita had said. "I'm Dionyus Yadav. I'll be interning with you today, if that is alright with you, sir?" The words flowed out gracefully and for a moment he had wished Ina could have heard it. She was always on him about proper pronunciations and a polite tone. Somehow it didn't even strike him as odd to wish her presence for that. Surely most teenagers didn't wish to seek praise for something as silly as talking. Then again...most teenagers weren't taught to be hyper-aware of how they were speaking.

[break][break]
[attr="class","cbody"]He had known that he wanted to be a lawyer for as long as he could remember. Ever since he had been a child. Everything that he had done in his life had been to get to where he was today. When he had graduated Hogwarts, he had gone to Oxford because it had been the best. He hadn’t minded the fact that it was a Muggle school. In fact, he thought that worked in his benefit. It gave him an insight into Muggle law that he had been able to use numerous times in his career. It had been entirely beneficial, and he had learned so much back in his university days. Every day, he had just wanted to learn more and more. He remembered what that had felt like.
[break][break]
That was why he didn’t mind when he had interns at the Ministry. Most of the time, they were eager and ready to learn. It reminded him of how he had been back at that age. Chris was always willing to teach them everything that he could. They needed more good lawyers in the world, and if he could help them even slightly, if they could learn anything from him, then he felt like he did his job. Today he had not remembered that he’d had an intern until he had read the memo that he’d gotten that morning, but he was sure that they would prove to be a competent and enthusiastic student. They usually were. Sometimes they were lazy, but most of the time they ended up being all right. He just was going to hope the same would be said for his intern today.
[break][break]
There was plenty for them to do, after all. His day today was a busy one. The intern would be able to sit in on a couple of meetings, would be able to help him with some case work and research… yes, it had been quite busy in the Ministry since the epidemic. It felt like he was nearly always buried in work these days. It wasn’t a department that had been crippled as others had by a lack of magic, but it still felt like they were all running themselves ragged these days.
[break][break]
Chris didn’t know much about his intern apart from the name that had been on the memo. He had no preconceived notions—he didn’t recognize the surname or know him in any way. Sometimes he did recognize a family name, after all. That had definitely happened on occasion, but he knew that he didn’t know a Yadav. That wasn’t exactly a common surname. “Good morning,” he said, getting to his feet to shake his hand in return. “Yes, of course. Take a seat, please.” Chris added, gesturing at the chairs across from the desk. He didn’t have a meeting just yet, so he figured they might as well start with just talking for a little while “So, have you been interning here long? What divisions have you worked with?”
