blind dates

[attr="class","reasonsmallvalentina"]happy valentine's day, little gossips - enjoy this treat, courtesy of vexed magazine. love, valentina de la vega

[attr="class","reasonbodvalentina"]Ah, the Daily Prophet.

While it might not be as dangerous as Vexed, it can certainly pack a punch in its own way. Very few have actually been inside the hallowed halls of this newspaper, but tonight, it’s the very spot where you’ll have your blind date.

Walking inside tonight, you are greeted by simple appetizers and mixed drinks, as well as instructions on how to put together your very own spread.

That’s right, lovers, this Valentine’s Day, you’ll spend your blind date creating your own newspaper cover. Feeling adventurous? Maybe it’s a story about how good your date is going. Or, maybe it’s a revelation about how he’s so dull. Whatever the case, we can’t wait to read it.

Ophelia had stayed away from dating for so long, she couldn’t remember the last time she had been out with someone or even gone home with someone. Not that she was really looking to do the latter tonight. She had signed up for this with no expectations, it was better if she went in like that. If the date did go badly, at least that way she wouldn’t be to upset because she had not expected to come way from it with something. She hoped the guy whoever she had been pared with was a decent guy. She had been through so much in recen times with men that she was understandably resistant to giving her heart to anyone else. But at the same time she knew she shouldn’t be so closed off from whoever this guy ended up being. She didn’t know what exactly they would be doing on this date but she was excited to find out. It would at least be better than her Valentines last year, at least that was a positive.

The brunette witch hadn’t been so sure what to wear tonight but she had kept it conservative. It would be wrong of her to give off the wrong impression. She didn’t alway dress like this for dates but this was the blind date and she wasn’t sure who she would be meeting. Additionally kept her make up to minimal so as to not give this guy any false impression. It was better that he knew from the start what she looked like. So at least if he was disappointed, it happened from the beginning.

She was trying to remain positive but it was harder said than done. She just wanted tonight to go well whether they ended up with a second date or not. At least they could be friends unless he had something against purebloods. Her worst nightmare would be if he was a pureblood and a traditional one at that. But surely they wouldn’t have set her up with someone like that...well only time would tell, Ophelia told herself.

At least her date was at the Daily Prophet so she didn't have too far to travel, an unusual place for a date but she was intrigued to see what they would be doing at the newspaper. SHe barely read the paper these days, even if she was eager to to know when she would get her magic back. It was nerve wracking. There was only so much she could do when it came to her work. Ophelia hoped that it would return by the time the summer rolled around so she could work with issuing wands to the first years entering Hogwarts in September.

The witch entered the paper and adjusted her dress and tucked her hair behind her ear before she walked into the room where her date was to take place. She glanced at the appetizers, decking to not try them just yet. The worst thing would be for her to be mid bite when the guy arrived. She decided to read over the instructions that they were to follow tonight….they were going to create their own front page. That did pique Ophelia’s interest. Hearing the footsteps of another person, she bit her lip and looked up smiling nervously. ”Hi….”

What is love?
Guess you could say it's news to me

Sam was an ass, and he was going to punch him in the face the next time that he saw his friend, but he also knew that Mason probably had something to do with this. They knew his usual routine, that he usually dropped any of his junk buddies before Valentine’s day and would find new ones, or he would pick the hottest one and take her out for a few weeks before giving the old “it’s not you, it’s me” speech. He was terrible, a horrible person at best, and they were well aware of this fact. They knew well enough that he was not someone who liked to be in romance, love scared him, especially since he had lost all of that weight.

He had watched his mother die and had been forced to accept another person into his home. He had seen his father love someone else, someone who was a lot of the time horrible to him, and his father never understood him. Never understood the stress that he went through with the war or the things that had happened at the school. It wasn’t easy and as he had gained weight he had been picked on. He had been made fun of, taunted, bullied, but they never got it. They never understood. Then he had finished Hogwarts and went off to school and met his friends and Alissa. He had fallen hard, but he had set goals for himself.

He had decided a long time ago that he wasn’t going to be like his father, he would be his own man, he would do what he wanted to do and he didn’t need the man’s approval. Which was why Lissa left him. Four months before the wedding. But it was whatever, he was over it, and over her, and his being alone for this long had nothing to do with it. Not at all, and no he would never admit anything else. He didn’t like dating, well not serous dating. He was good at serial dating though. He didn’t like commitment, and he didn’t want to have to change anything about himself, because he was perfect thank you.

Though this combined with the wanker jar might be his friends telling him that he needed to change but how was he supposed to know that? He wasn’t a mind reader after all. He wore a simple outfit, had done his hair the way that he liked and left just the right amount of stubble as to show off his jaw line. He looked good and as he walked towards his date, he knew that he looked good. He stepped into the office and hummed to himself before walking into the room where his date was. He prayed that she wasn’t an uggo, or a fatty, he didn’t need that drama back in his life, but he was pleasantly surprised to see that she was rather pretty.

He gave her a small smile before stepping into the room. ”Oh, hello there. You must be my date. I’m Alek.” He said before holding out his hand.

Going out was something that Ophelia didn’t let herself do most of the time but with it being Valentine’s day, she knew she had better get out and she was hoping that she would not regret what she would be putting herself through tonight. She had never had a blind date but Jac had told her that she ought to at least try new things once in a while. She could trust her sister’s wisdom but she coudn’t trust the optimism her older sister had shown when she had told her how she would be spending Valentine’s evening. Ophelia hoped she hadn’t made a mistake by signing up for this. But she could end up having a great night.

She knew that she was over-thinking going out and there was no point in doing that. It would only hinder her from going out tonight and the alternative of staying home on her own drinking didn’t look that great. She would end up hungover tomorrow and where would that serve her when it came to her getting to work. She was still going to Ollivanders each day, she wasn’t able to craft wands without having magic but she was making sales here and there on accessories, namely holsters. She thought it was odd given that many witches and wizards were like here and had lost their magic but if they wanted to buy a new holster, she definitely wasn’t about to stop them.

At least when it came to her own holster for the night, her wand was secured next to her thigh. At least the date was close where she lived so she didn’t have to worry about apparating to somewhere. She liked that convenience of living in Diagon Alley. And the added bonus of the tea shop smelling devine was just wonderful in her opinion. She hoped her date didn’t stink tonight but surely that vexed wouldn’t do that to torment her.

She thought that the Daily Prophet was a very unique place for the date so she was looking forward to seeing how it went. Ophelia just had to remember to remain calm and confident but it was a case of it being easier said than done. She was plesantly surprised to find that her date was quite the looker and he was confident. Well, at least this was a good start. Maybe whatever cover story they created between them would have a positive spin on it.

”Hi Alexk, Im Ophelia and you’re correct, I am your date tonight” she smiled as she shook his hand. Well he’s got a good grip she thought as she let go. ”So there are some little snacks here and according to his piece of paper, our date involves us creating our very own cover story” she smiled as she handed over the paper for him to read. As he did so, she looked him up and down making sure to take in every detail. She normally only paid this much attention when she was assigning wands to a person but she was likely to break that rule tonight. Well, if she wanted it to go well, that is.

What is love?
Guess you could say it's news to me

Alek still had no idea why his friends would have set him up like this, and though he could not argue with the results they had gotten he really did not like that he had had no say in this. Giving up any sort of control was not really his thing and he wished that it could be different. He wished that he could just get his ass in gear and make sure that things were different for himself but after everything with Lissa he wasn’t looking for happily ever after. He didn’t want it if that was what was going to happen. He was all too aware of the hurt that his father had gone through when his mother had been sick and the last thing that he wanted or needed in the back of his mind as he was out in the world. The last thing that he wanted to spend his life doing was mourning the loss of a great love. He had already lost his mother and Lissa, and grieving again was not in him.

His friends thought that he was still not over Lissa but they did not understand. It had precious little to do with her, and everything to do with the fact that she had seen a deficiency in him. That he had not been good enough, that he was not good enough to really be able to hold onto whomever it was that he loved. It showed him that his passions would always come second to whomever he was with, they would never understand why this place meant so much to him, or how much of him and his family was steeped into the place. He had tried to show Lissa, but she had not wanted to know, had not cared. Since then he had closed himself off and hidden away, like the fat hurt boy that was buried deep inside of him.

Alek longed to be loved, to belong to someone, but he was scared to get hurt again, so he hid. Behind his words and his confidence, and used sex as a replacement for love. After all, was it not the same thing to a woman? Could not they think the same things that he did? he ran a hand through his light brown hair and smiled at the woman before him. ”It’s lovely to meet you, Ophelia. “ She said that there were snacks and he looked them over and wondered if some of the catering orders that he had been receiving were for other things like this but it was obvious to him that the food that was there was not from The Griffin.

He looked over the paper that she handed him and felt her eyeing him, glancing at her over the top of the paper as she looked at him he could not help the smile that formed on his face. ”Sounds fun.” He said as he had the paper out for her to take back. ”Have any ideas?”

Ophelia had simply stayed away from dating until now because she had been hurt to many times to put herself through again. She thought it was time though, that she take the leap and let someone else get to know her if they wanted to. While she had been apprehensive coming here, she knew that she should keep an open mind, it was just a matter of herself letting her be free. She knew that not every guy that she was going to meet was going to break her heart. But Ophelia knew she had been the cause of the downfall of some of her relationships too. After all, there were always at least two people in a relationship. But she was going to be cautious with any guy she was going to meet. She felt it best to tread carefully, even if she was embarking on a blind date.

The whole point of a blind date was that you didn’t know who you were going to meet and that made her a little scared. What if this guy turned around to have some connection to Death Eaters, she wouldn’t want that. That would be the last time she wanted. The witch had worked so hard avoid them until now. But she didn’t think that Death Eaters would actually sign up for blind dating. Surely they would think was beneath them and she thought that whoever had done this pairing would have looked into her history a little and they would have seen how she had lost her parents. While it had been over 20 years, there were still articles available and you didn’t have to search too hard.

However, if she had received the bad end of the stick and had been paired up with someone with connections to Death Eaters she would have to get out of there as soon as possible. There was no way she was going to put herself a full night of that kind of torture. SHe didn’t need them thinking she was a blood traitor, not that she was sure how they would work that out.

But she was here now and it was important for her that this went well. She wanted to be proven wrong and to see for herself that not all guys were bad. She hadn’t even thought past tonight yet or even if she was willing to sleep with the man whoever he happened to be if the night went really well. While having some company in her bed was not something she would assume would happen.

It was best that she didn’t make any assumptions tonight about herself, the man she had been set up with or how they would spend their time together. Having a date in the offices of the Newspaper would definitely be interesting. She really only checked out the crossword puzzles in the paper with the occasional perusal of the news articles to see if there was any progress in restoring magic to those that had lost it when then the epidemic had struck.

Her date for the evening definitely was easy on the eyes. She was glad for that and was thanking whoever had matched them already. As much as Ophelia had tried, she could not tear her eyes away from him as he read over what they had to do tonight for their date. ”Well, as I look at it, we have two choices, we can write about the food over there….” she said glancing at the snacks. Everyone loved a good food article, right? ...or, we could just jump in and get to know each other….how daring are you feeling, Alek?” she asked, smiling up at him curiously.

What is love?
Guess you could say it's news to me

Love was never an option or anything that he thought about being an option. He had tried, he had hoped that things would eventually get better and he would meet someone that he could trust, someone that could see the beauty in the things that he did, in the things that he loved to do. Alek tried hard to make himself happy, he tried hard to make sure that those that he loved felt it. He never wanted anyone to feel like he didn’t care, because he did, even though he often struggled to show it. Alek was a man who at times did not want to put words to emotion, or thought to action. He would rather sit and think about things than to rush into things headlong. However, for a long time now it had ended him up in a mess of superficial relationships, a time of his life that he was hating and he just wanted to be over.

Goals were something that had helped Alek when he was younger, but he had not really utilized that since he had finished school. He tried to and did things like made sure that things got done on a specific day or time, but it was nowhere like it was when he was in school. His father said that he got that from his mother, something that he was not sure how he felt about it but he was glad that he had something of her in him other than his looks. He was so much like his father at times that they did not get on, and words of anger would turn into screaming matches.

It was one of the reasons that he was in Uni for so long, to avoid having to go home to face the old man. It wasn’t like he wanted to hear him yell and scream about the life choices that Alek had made, so he hadn’t told him about this. He hadn’t told him that he wasn’t dating, they just avoided the subject. He did read the prophet and it made Alek wonder if they would actually be publishing whatever it was that they came up with.

He laughed as she teased him and smirked at the pretty woman and put a hand on her back, guiding her over to the table where the food was. ”How about a mixture? We eat and talk and if we like the food more than each other, then we can write about the food.” He suggested with a smile, still curious about who had catered this.
