Clocktower

She and Arthur had given Vi her present that morning; an expensive cartography book that they had found in Hogsmeade, as well as a nice pen that Clio had sprung for for Christmas. It was an important birthday, and she was willing to spoil one of her best friends over it. Arthur's present, of course, she didn't give in front of his sister. Not that it was anything she couldn't give in front of Vi. She just tried to save Vi from a mix of blushing and weird sweetness. No, Vi just got to see the rest of her weirdness-- the tarot cards, the angry rambling, when she was holding her head due to a headache... She felt like there needed to be some sort of barriers in this situation so that she didn't make Vi wildly uncomfortable. It wasn't fair to make her sit in between everything over and over again. Besides, she was making an attempt to be romantic, which wasn't something that she was really too good at.

Her last class of the day was Herbology with the Hufflepuffs, and over lunch she had made plans to meet with Arthur after that. Of course it was at the clocktower-- the place that they had first kissed and talked about their feelings. It was a better place than the Great Hall to give him his present. Besides, she liked the clocktower best out of all of the places that she had run by Octi. He had, at first, suggested the pitch. They could stargaze and have a midnight picnic. She had thought it was a good idea, but it just wasn't sentimental enough. Also, it felt like it was slipping towards more stereotypical, and she was getting bad vibes about it. It was a bit more out in the open than she was hoping for... It was possible the Hell Beast might be there, lurking, waiting to strike. Or someone would pull a dramatic midnight practice, and she couldn't handle that one either.

So the clocktower it was, and she sat on one of the higher steps, a wrapped present beside her. She had asked Vi what to get Arthur in a bit of a panic, but she didn't really go with any of those options. She was already overthinking it, anyway. She wasn't quite sure her present was even good enough. She crinkled her nose at herself, then smiled brightly when she saw Arthur. "Hey," she said, pushing herself off of the ground and taking a few steps down. "Happy birthday. I know I already said it earlier, but it's still relevant."

Youth
This had to be his best birthday ever. Not one of the preceding seventeen days had made him feel this elated and forget-the-world-around-him happy. True, ever since he had started dating Clio (a miracle he still could hardly believe even after almost two months — Clio), he had spent all his time like walking on air, counting the seconds on his watch during lessons to figure out how long it was until he could see her again. On normal days, he’d feel at least a little guilty that he was hopelessly behind in almost every lesson, and if he hadn’t over the years perfected the art of (not always so) secretly copying homework from Atha, he’d probably have to waste time away from Clio in detention. Today, though, the fact that he’d spectacularly fail his NEWTs if he continued like that didn’t matter. It was his birthday. For one day, he could allow himself to be nothing but happy, especially after the miserable birthday last year. He’d maybe even managed to completely forget about it, but it was a little harder to ignore a birthday with a twin. For Vi, he could make an effort. He had tried to look out for her, and even if he wasn’t any good at being a brother, at least he hadn’t made matters worse — most of the time.

But he didn’t have to worry about her anymore, not all too much in any case. Not today. They had all And Clio was there too, who could help if something were really wrong with her. Everything was better with Clio. He couldn’t understand how he had been able to live at all without her in his life. Not that he cared all that much because now she was here and it was perfect. Clio was perfect. The Clock Tower was perfect, for it was the place that had brought them together. So he had immediately agreed when Clio had suggested meeting there after class. That left him with a few Clio-less hours that were passing far too slowly. But pass they did. He had tried to make an effort and do some homework to have something to do until Clio got out of Herbology. And though he didn’t make much progress because his mind kept thinking back to earlier in the day when Clio had been there, he ended up being a few minutes late. Leaving his homework spread over a table in the common room, he sprinted up to the third floor.

He couldn’t see her standing before the Clock Tower, but as soon as he entered, he saw her sitting on the stairs and his face split into a grin. “Hey,” he greeted back, jumping up the stairs so that he was one step below Clio, their eyes at the same height. “Yeah, it’s my birthday all day,” he agreed happily as he enclosed her in a hug.
