[attr="class","cbody"]His day had finally come to an end. Just like every day that he had to come into the Ministry, the moment came where he could go home, and it felt like a weight was lifted off of his shoulders. He looked forward to nothing more than being able to go home. To change out of this suit and look over finalized drafts that had been submitted for final projects. So far, he would have to say that this was his favorite assignment to grade thus far. It was the cumulation of everything that his students had learned this year. It was an assignment where they got to let their creativity take them in whatever direction they wanted. He’d had weekly meetings with each of the students in the program, and he had gotten a good idea of what they were all working on. He was pleased that they had a variety of different genres and concepts being used. There was a political satire, a tragedy, and a historical piece among them.
[break][break]
What he was most excited about was the student that had enlisted the help of a couple of masters level composition students to create a musical. Obviously, he was biased on that front, seeing his love of writing and music combined into one piece, but he was really looking forward to getting a close look at what they had come up with so far. Getting home to read that with a glass of whiskey would be the perfect way to spend the evening—leagues better than how he had spent the day. After hours spent at the Ministry, he was just relieved that he had something like this to look forward.
[break][break]
And he was just as relieved that it was Friday. He had the weekend away from the Ministry entirely. Cases weren’t called into the Wizengamot on the weekends except for in extreme extenuating circumstances that he had not even experienced since he had first taken his family’s seat. It wasn’t something that he worried all that much about, because it simply wasn’t something that happened all that often. He would have two days free of the Ministry, and he could use that time to decompress and focus on his work at Braithewaite.
[break][break]
It was an exciting time of year at the school. It had been stressful when he had been a student there, of course. Spring term performances had caused him nights and nights of sleeplessness. More all-nighters had been pulled in those weeks and the weeks leading up to it than he’d ever experienced before. But when all was said and done, there was just something about that feeling of satisfaction when he’d made it through. It was always worth it. And he had always enjoyed watching whatever performances that he could when he had been a student. He had spent hours at performances when he should have been preparing for his own back then but seeing what the other creative minds at the school had come up with had always been worthwhile. There was just something about Braithewaite during performance time. He hadn’t been able to put his finger on it back then, and he couldn’t put his finger on it now either.
[break][break]
But that feeling was still there. Even as a professor. Even though he wasn’t the one performing anymore. He had still made sure to stop in at everyone that he could. No matter the department, the program, or the performance, if he didn’t have anything else to do, he was there to watch if he could be. It did wonders on his mood, no matter what it was that day. It was what was on his mind even now, even as he walked through the halls of the Ministry to the Department of Mysteries.
[break][break]
The fact that Kali worked here was something that helped him tremendously. She had given him more advice since he had been made heir than anybody else and after a long day of dealing with cases and the whispers of the purists around him, he wanted both his sister’s her opinion and her company. While going home and reading through changes made in his students’ scripts sounded like a great way to spend the evening, he thought there was a chance he could persuade Kali to accompany him to a Braithewaite performance tonight. It would only be a couple of hours.
[break][break]
Whether or not he actually managed to catch her before she left was another matter entirely. She could have been gone already, she could have not been here at all today, or she could be planning to spend hours more in the department. There was no way to know it and no way to go in and see if she was there. He figured that he could loiter in the halls for as long as possible without attracting stares. If she didn’t come out, he’d head to a performance on his own. He didn’t need the company—music was company enough, he found, but he certainly wanted the company.
