Sounds like life to me
it ain't no fantasy
It's just a common case of everyday reality

She had been serious when she had suggested Great Pyrenees, and somehow, they had agreed on four. That seemed like it was probably a lot, but she did understand the reasoning behind it. Still, four Great Pyrenees puppies were going to be four very large dogs one of these days. And she knew that they hadn’t been allowed to go alone for a reason. There was a good chance, in Em’s mind anyway, that Andromeda was just going to lock her out of the house one of these days if she kept making all of these suggestions. This one had been for a purpose, a fence would ruin the aesthetic of that part of the island, and Rabastan had thought that one was necessary.

There was another option and getting four made sense. They worked better in pairs anyway, and she had already made a case for pairs once this week. That had been before Saturday night though. And she knew that it had been… different. She wasn’t sure what she had been expecting, but G’s reactions had been nearly priceless. Rhodes had been more understanding, or at least more accepting, and she appreciated that. But G was still not sure that he wanted to actually speak to her yet, and that was bothering her.

It didn’t make her rethink her choice. She was still convinced that this was what she wanted. This was what they wanted. But her twin not understanding how she could make this choice was starting to get to her. She wanted to meet him for coffee this morning, but he had texted her back, and said that drinks after work would be better. That was fine. She could do drinks after work, but she was going to spend all day worrying over it. He wasn’t going to just be convinced. She was going to have to explain.

And it wasn’t something that she even knew if she could explain. It wasn’t like she had planned it. It wasn’t that she had gone looking for this. It had just sort of happened, and when it had been just talking, she thought that they had all been brushing it off, and then it wasn’t talk anymore. Then there had been some truth to it, and now it was very much a reality. Her reality. And now? Well now things were different. Now she wasn’t sure that she liked G judging what he didn’t understand.

He had gone on Saturday, of his own free will. She had not dragged him to Gwendolyn’s. She had not forced him to do anything that he didn’t want to do. And she was not being forced into this. It had just been apparent to him, and to Rhodes, and probably to everyone else at that stupid party, what was going on. And he had reacted nearly as poorly as she expected him to. Avery was going to be the same way. She knew that her son was going to have just as negative of a reaction, but one step at a time.

And Zoë would be home soon enough. Coming home to a home that she didn’t know. Coming home to the place that her father wasn’t. It was still something that Emmaline knew that she struggled with. But they were going to get through it. She was going to make sure that Zoë knew that she was loved and cared for. That she was never going to let her down, and she wasn’t going to leave her. Travis hadn’t meant to leave them either, but she knew that one of Zoë’s biggest fears was that something would happen to her too. That she would lose the only parent that she had left. And Emmaline wasn’t going to let that happen.

She wasn’t going to let anything happen to her. Or to Avery. Or to the older girls. She was going to make sure that her children knew that she loved them. The older girls were going to be an easier sell. She could just sense that. They wanted her to be happy, and Mallory especially, had always been a free spirit. She would embrace this, and hopefully help her siblings accept it as well.

Sweeping her hair up into a knot on the back of her head, she fixed the corner of her lipstick as she made her way down the hall back towards her laboratory. Jakub followed, just a few steps behind her, and Emmaline could say that she was getting used to having him there. It was annoying, yes, but she knew better than to try and send him away. Rabastan had told her more than once now that he was just going to keep sending him back. And she didn’t think that the ICW was really the reason, but she didn’t question it further. She didn’t have to.

The witch was not on call today at the hospital. She worked Sundays, every single Sunday, and she normally had her Mondays off. Not that off meant she did nothing. It meant that she was here, at the Foundation. And really, she spent more time here than she did at the hospital these days. Someone was coming from the other direction down the hall, and she offered the man a smile. She had been working closer with Samira than she had Davis since they had arrived, and she thought that he was conducting his own research in a different manner than they were, but she could still be polite. He looked as though he had just arrived from somewhere, and she tilted her head in curiosity, “Coming back from somewhere?”

Yeah, It's tough and rough
Sounds like life to me
Work was a perfect distraction, it was the one thing that he was able to use, always, as a way to forget his problems, forget the thing that he had to do. He could just do what he did best and let everything fall to the wayside. He was a brilliant surgeon, and he put his all into his job, but this was harder. The research was not all that everyone thought that it was. It was trial and error. Right now though he was gathering information, he was trying to make sure he had all the pieces before trying to put this puzzle together.

He had his feelings that this was man-made. After all, there had not been a disease that did this ever, and they dated all the way back to Merlin. It had the signs of some kind of flu and it was a little scary that he could get it at any time. He would be in contact with people who were sick, those who were immune as well. Delilah was a lovely young woman, and she had been the first one that had gotten sick. He wondered how she had gotten the luck to be the first unfortunate soul to have been given this gift of being the one to be poked and prodded.

No one was perfect, in fact, he knew that he was terribly, horribly flawed but he was trying to make a difference here. He just wanted to solve this. It would drive him mad until they did. Be it for six weeks or seven years. He was going to be there when they solved it and he hoped that it made sense. That it wasn’t just something simple and stupid. He had suspicions and he had to work on them before he brought anything to anyone.

He had made his way back to the foundation quickly with a few new vials, new samples and a cup of coffee in him. Maybe he would be able to find some kind of focus once it kicked in. Seeing Emmaline he smiled and nodded his head to her. ” Emmaline, well met.” A courteous nod followed. ” I was just in Dublin, visiting Miss Graves. “
