YOU WERE RIGHT

It had started easily enough. He had gone to his vault and pulled out something that he had asked for the last time that he had been married, his grandmother's ring. At the time his uncle had been head of the family and it had been an easy enough task to get the item, but then it had sat in his vault. In a moment of weakness, he had gone to his vault to get his favorite guitar when the topic of the tour had come up and he saw it. Sitting innocently in the box that was open, shining bright, a reminder of the woman that was no longer with them. A reminder that life was fickle and could take any of us at a moments notice. The eldest witch in the family had been close to his heart and having her ring meant a great many things to him.

That ring, the small circular band with its stones so shiny and bright had been the one thing that had set all of this off. It was what had caused everything to go sideways. He panicked. He always did and what did that mean? Him doing something stupid. Why? Because he was in fact, stupid. He had asked the woman that he was pretty sure that he was in love with, for a break. So that when he went on tour he could do as he pleased and not break her heart. He could shag who and what he wanted and she could not get angry. Mistake number one. Number two came shortly after when he had gone to hang out with Luxx and they partied hard.

Probably partied a bit too hard considering that he wound up in bed with the woman he was headed to see. Not that he wanted to do it again, Merlin's eyes knew that he didn't want to. He'd rather burn off that specific region. Not that they were bad in the sack together. They were just far too different to ever really be a match in heaven, but something she had said sort of perked up his ears. Like his dogs when they heard something in another room and ran off barking like mad until they saw that it was only something outside or Winona coming home. Okay, ouch that hurt. He had to stop thinking of that. They were on a break so he could figure out what he wanted.

The next step was firing his mother, which only meant that his siblings were likely to hate him for the hell that he had unleashed on them by giving his mother more reign over them. He loved her and he was grateful for everything that she had done, but it was time to get serious about this. If there was anyone that would ever consider managing he and Van as a duo, then it would be Sabine. Ruthless, strong, stubborn, smart, sophisticated and above all else well connected and not going to put up with their bullshit, it was her. He just knew that he had to come to her and ask. He wasn't going to beg unless she made him, but he knew he was going to have to say those words. 'You were right', even thinking about it hurt him on a physical level, but he was going to have to get real and get over it.

He sat and waited outside of the office for her to be ready to see him, and he didn't even play on his phone. Only Van knew where he was, and he could only hope that Winona didn't find out about this, or the other night, for a long time, if at all. That would just make this so much worse than it needed to be. He was going to try and make this better. Reinvent himself and maybe then, things might get better. Maybe.
