Morning After

@vivien
Art had spent the night with his wife... in his house... in their bed... And when he had woken up, it had all been familiar. It would have been perfect. It should have been. His wife was sleeping right there next to him. She was beautiful. His heart warmed at the sight of the morning rays illuminating her hair. He could have stayed there forever. But his bladder had very different ideas. So, Art carefully extracted himself out from under the redhead's sleeping form taking care not to wake her and slipped off to the loo.

He did not have any clothes here anymore. So, there was no choice except to put back on his clothing from the night before. He did not want to leave yet. It would still be awhile before the twins and the little one woke up--and Vet would probably sleep well into the day. Viv, he did not expect to encounter either. He could slip down to the kitchen and brew up some coffee. Titania would appreciate that, he thought.

Slipping down the stairs with care, Art headed to the kitchen. He still knew where everything was. The grinder and coffee beans were right where they had always been. He put some water into the kettle for the french press and started grinding the beans. The roar of the grinder seemed so loud in the quiet of the house. He did not want to wake anyone up. He and Titania definitely needed to talk before the kids saw him at the house in the early morning hours.

Especially wearing yesterday's rumpled clothes...

That wasn't a great look.

Viv hadn't told anyone where she was going the night before, sneaking out had been a common occurrence for her lately and even if her mum or siblings - especially Vet had any suspicions, they knew better than to ask. The witch didn't often keep secrets but Ward was definitely changing that; everything she got up to with him both inside and out of the bedroom was a secret because Viv knew her family and they knew that her getting cosy with a con-artist, gambler and escort for that matter probably wouldn't sit well. And even then that was only the jobs she knew about. Ward had his secrets and she knew that. She had no right to pry. As long as she got what she wanted by the end of the night, she didn't care.

She had woken particularly early that morning (not that she'd had much sleep) and decided to head home to try and slip in before her twin siblings woke up, she'd just play it off that she'd come home late or something if any questions were asked. First, though she needed a coffee and a strong one at that. Unlocking the door quietly she slid into the foyer and shut the door with a click. Viv froze in the doorway and listened, nothing. Everyone was still in bed. Good. Scurrying towards the kitchen she threw her leather jacket on the back of a chair and was about to head to the coffee maker when she froze. Someone was already there.

It was a surprisingly similar someone who she hadn't expected to see anywhere near the house lately and he seemed to look a little worse for wear too. Viv remained frozen on the spot before she started to back away from her dad, relieved he had his back to her. It seemed that wasn't going to be what happened though, it was like watching in slow motion as her jacket slid off the chair and landed on the floor with a clatter as metal hit marble. "Crap." She hissed, looking at her dad, much like a deer in headlights.

Art had not heard his daughter come in. The roar of the coffee grinder was too loud. But when the jacket hit the chair and her voice reached his ears, the wizard froze. He spun towards Vivien. He was not really sure what he was going to say. The cliche that this was not what it looked like was a lie he just was not going to tell. He was not that kind of dad.

But anything he had to say was caught in his throat when he actually saw his daughter.

What in Merlin's name was she wearing?! Where was the rest of it?! His blood pressure shot up immediately. His baby girl stood in front of him looking like a street walker. He just could not handle it at all.

"What the FUCK are you WEARING?"
Art did not make a habit of swearing in front of his children, but this was certainly not the first time Vivien had heard him say the word  fuck. She was the eldest, after all. She had gotten a lot more glimpses of her parents as people than the youngers had. His eyes were bulging out of his head--and that vein in his forehead was showing. He had gone from calming to shocked in a micro second.

Was this the sort of thing that Titania was allowing their daughters to wear now? If so, they were really going to have to have a talk. A very bloody serious talk.

Viv remained frozen in the kitchen staring at her dad, she thought her mum had kicked him out and yet here he was, looking very comfortable but also like he'd spent the night. She narrowed her eyes suspiciously but remained quiet as she took a couple of small steps further into the kitchen. She was happy to see her dad, she had missed him but she was also... hesitant, he'd been so cold to her around the hospital and never made the effort to spend time with her out of hours that she was left feeling a little... neglected, she'd always been a daddy's girl yet whatever had happened between her parents had made her question where she stood. After all, she was just a vulnerable little girl still no matter how she tried to act.

The raised voice had her eyes widen in surprise and she scoffed, "I'm wearing a dress, what does it look like?" She replied sharply, glaring at the wizard if he was going to go all protective dad on her after ignoring her for so long and think she would take it lying down he had another thing coming. "What are you wearing?" She bit back, his clothing was looking well worn and she knew what a possible walk of shame looked like, she'd done plenty over the past few months and the fact her father was normally so clean cut and well presented? Maybe he'd just slept on the sofa, but she still didn't feel like he had the right to tell her off. At least her dress still looked neat and she lived here still. If she wanted to come home after a wild night out wearing a slutty dress, then she would.

This was completely unacceptable. Art was flabbergasted. He was more than that. He was gobsmacked. There was not even a word for what he was. The man needed bleach for his eyes. A father was never supposed to see their daughter in a get up like that. Not ever. Not once.

And she was just coming home at this hour!

That fact had not even registered with the man. He could not think about where she had been---or whose company the girl had been keeping. That would be too much. It would give the man a heart attack... or perhaps a stroke. Maybe that was what was happening anyway. Maybe this was how it ended for Artunakara Buchanan: in day old clothes, grinding coffee beans, barefoot in the kitchen, getting sassed by his first born.

He shook his head. "No. That is not a dress. That is some string and a few scraps of cloth! That you cannot possibly be wearing anything under. And you are coming in at sunrise in THAT?" He was furious and a little nauseated. She was his baby girl. She was too young and too precious to be in whatever slut rags her mother was allowing her to wear now. He and Titania would be having a very heated discussion about this.

He scoffed when his daughter tried to turn the question back around on him. "I am wearing these things called clothes! They cover your body and keep you from looking like someone who works on street corner!" Art was still Vivien's father. Perhaps he had been a bit distance since the squib flu outbreak had taken her magic, but he was still the man who had raised her. This was not okay. This was not okay at all. She could tone that sass right down. He was concerned out of care for her. He didn't want someone taking advantage of her---which they surely would try to do with her flouncing around in that so-called dress.

Viv knew she was playing a dangerous game in the way she acted and dressed lately. When she had lost her magic things had been tough. She’d had to transfer universities and start over with getting to know people which after spending so long doing at Lufkin, it was a little infuriating having to do it again but it was either start over or change majors and Viv enjoyed alchemy far too much to drop it. Then her parents' relationship had deteriorated and even though Vivien had tried to throw herself into her studies first, she’d not been able to focus and that was where the drinking, gambling and flirting had really come into it. Of course, she only really mainly flirted and spent time in the company of one person, but as backwards as it was, she’d rather people thought of her as a slut then know she was becoming a one-woman man – even if they weren’t dating.

The witch scowled at her dad and crossed her arms stubbornly, a slight smirk on her lips at the fact her dad seemed more bothered about why she was wearing it as opposed to what she was wearing, it was satisfying and besides, it meant she was getting a response and conversation out of him instead of being ignored and iced out. "I’m coming in at sunrise like this yet you’re sneaking around this house like you have something to hide. Does mum even know you’re here?” She said angrily; of course her mum probably knew but Viv didn’t care right now, she was looking for an argument with her dad, it always made it easier for her to tell how she was feeling when she was mad and she had a lot to say to her dad.

"Your clothes are a mess, at least mine aren’t.” She pointed out with an eye-roll. When he commented about looking like she worked on a street corner, the witch couldn’t help it and she laughed, straight in his face, if only he knew the company she kept. "Maybe that’s where I left everything that goes under this dress, at a clients house. It was a busy night, you know?” She said coolly, stalking around to the coffee machine and grabbing the mug her dad had already set up and filling it. It was petty, but she didn’t care.
