Character History:

When Athena Finely was born to Katrine and Hans Finley, she instantly became the apple of her father’s eye. He doted on her, teaching her his tricks and keeping her constantly trained on political prowess. As a foreign delegate to Denmark, Hans was well-trained in the world of politics and made certain that his daughter gave off the same sort of persona.

But Athena also harbored a dark secret. Her father was often away in Denmark for business, leaving his family to care for themselves. When her mother found Athena, age 8, in the back yard with their long-time family cat, Clarabelle, Katrine realized that something was terribly wrong with Athena. The cat, gutted from neck to navel, had practically been taken apart in a scientific manner. Katrine kept it from Ares and Hans, for fear that her daughter would be taken away from her. Instead, she let Athena fester.

Ares seemed to be the only thing that equilibrated her. When she was around her older brother, she was well-behaved, articulate, and the precise model citizen that Hans had always wanted her to be. Her brother brought out the best in her, but also the worst. She was competitive with him and they constantly tried to one up each other. Though, when push came to shove, they were there to protect one another should the need arise. They were hard pressed to find someone who thought they could challenge the siblings.

But things were different the three years that Ares was left for Hogwarts without her. She had a hard time making friends because of the strange imbalance in her brain, but the older boy from down the street, Carlisle Cabbott didn’t seem to mind. He was fourteen and she was eleven. They spent the entirety of her summer before Hogwarts together. Until he turned up missing a few weeks before September 1. Athena had been the last one to see him, though she swore that she had nothing to do with his disappearance. They found his body the day after she got on the train to Hogwarts — though no one could quite explain how his injuries could have possibly been self-inflicted, they called it suicide.

When Athena finally made it to Hogwarts, she was sorted into Slytherin with her brother. Though, with different last names, no one made the connection between the pair. They decided that it was better to remain detached from one another, but she couldn’t help hexing any girl that came near Ares it was quite a few, let’s be honest. Her antics seemed to cool off during these years as she became more in control of the strange, and often murderous ticks that tocked in her head.

After Hogwarts, Athena chose not to join the Dark Lord and his followers like her brother, however, she did provide administrative support from her end. Her home was often used as a safe house and she harbored Death Eaters as often as she could. She trained to become an Unspeakable, studying the Death Chamber with a certain amount of macabre fascination, but it was the perfect job for her. When the war ended — badly for them, as it were — she wasn’t implicated. Ares, however, was not so lucky.

Using her pull at the Ministry, she managed to get him out of his situation and out of prison all while retaining her position as an Unspeakable. Since then, she has been continuing her cover at the Ministry while the tensions mount.

Miles Brant was an idiot. Athena saw it coming miles away, and she was sure that others did to. But when he went after the Minister’s wife, she knew that it was over. Pity, really, he had been a good leader. But there are those she knows can lead better — like her. This time, she thinks it’s time that she gives it a go. After all, if they couldn’t do it without her before, what makes them think they’re going to be successful now? Question is, can she get the rest to follow? Locked in a power struggle with Ares, they're both attempting to rule the rebellion, though neither will say they’re ousting for the top-dog spot when it comes down to it. After all, they are siblings and isn’t blood thicker than water? It is…at least for now.

Plots and Politics
Where does your character stand in the treatment of death eaters and their families? Enough is enough. She lived through it once and she's not going to do it again. Athena is devoting herself to the cause and she's going to make sure things are right...even if it means destroying the Ministry of Magic.

How was your character and their family affected by the reign and death of Voldemort? During the Wizarding War, Athena was a supporter of the Death Eaters, constantly providing her home as a safe house for those seeking shelter. Her brother, Ares, was a minor player in the DE's, as well, though the Ministry had little proof of his actions...especially after Athena wiped his file...and the memories of those keeping it.

Family History:

The Finley family has always had strong connections to Denmark, where they originated. For years, the family thrived there until they decided that they would be better suited to live in England. A few generations ago, the immigrated and began working as embassies to Denmark. Hans is the first Finely to work at the Ministry of Magic.

When he met Katrine Wentzell after her husband’s death, there were instant sparks. He married her quickly, inheriting Ares as he step-son. The pair don’t get along, though they would never outrightly say so. When Katrine and Hans had another child, Athena, she grew to love her brother…but at the same time constantly felt challenged by him. They fight like cats and dogs, though that’s typical of any pair of siblings.

Other: She will be fighting her brother to rule the Death Eaters, without actually telling her brother that she's challenging him. Dangerous times lay ahead for all.
