Junior Assistant to the Minister | Soloist at the Avalon School of Ballet
Appearance and Personality
General Appearance: Constance stands at only five feet, four inches—which is still three inches taller than her matka, thank you. She is kept fit by the kickboxing instructor that her matka insisted on Merlin even remembered how many years ago, and by continuing to try to best her sister at martial arts (which is incredibly difficult, clearly). She has long, dark brown hair that is normally kept straight, and her eyes are green. She’s been taught not to be in public unless she is presentable, and while her eye make-up is usually subtle enough, she’s been known to very spontaneously change her mind and try for a darker look. Still, she’s never out of the house unless she looks good, which was simply a lesson she learned long time ago. Her heels are always tall, and while she does own pants, really there aren’t many of them. Sometimes the need just arises to have such things…
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Skills: She's freakishly good at the piano, and she's mad that I'm putting that first. Still, she's really very good. When she was younger, she was interested in playing either the piano or the violin, and she went with the former and was quite the natural at it. She's had plenty of lessons, and still has them on occasion (though she personally doesn't know if she sees the point anymore because she doesn't really play for anyone unless they're family and they specifically bother her about it). When it comes to her uncle particularly, she's good at getting her way, which is not a good thing in my opinion, but she says that it's okay because she's the favorite. Obviously, she's very good at ballet since she is a soloist, and she's had years of practice since she started with those lessons when she was four, same as martial arts. She's quite talented in that too, and she agrees with her sister that the grace and agility needed for both can be quite similar, but she still hasn't bested Ella in martial arts. But she's determined enough to not stop trying until she does... and
Weaknesses: She says she has to follow suit with her sestra and matka on this and start by saying her family. She would do anything for them, and especially with the new state of things, she says it would be idiotic not to realize that it's easy for people to exploit anyone that cares so much about their family. But she's also confident that there is nobody that, in particular, her strýc can't handle -- but also her matka, even if she wasn't allowed to see her set the Minister on fire. Speaking of that, even though she knows when to listen and can handle being told what to do, if there is something that she really wants to do, she definitely gets in a mood if she can't do something that she wants to do. Recently, that was certainly being told to stay at home and that she wasn't allowed to go see the Minister pay for what he'd done (and no, seeing memories of it is not the same thing). She's mad that I would put cooking in a weakness, but I'll say she's not great at it. She's really just average at it, but would rather eat her matka's cooking, or her babička's, or even her teta's, since she can apparently good well too. She'll also eat her sestra's cooking, but she'll still joke that it's not that great. Now that her otec has been killed, it's very clear that she's bad at dealing with grieving, and definitely took after her matka and punched a mirror when her sestra wouldn't let her leave the house. She did her fair share of lashing out, and getting mad, and irritated that she was practically on domácí vězení, and she's still not dealing with it all that well. But she won't cry about it because she says she doesn't cry, which is a lie. She just doesn't cry much and when she does there's no one around to see it. Recently, she also had a problem with going to the wrong people for advice and turning a molehill into a mountain on accident, so sometimes she needs to think things through more because saying something... Oh and now she's afraid of her dědeček, so there's that.
Positive Personality Traits: Captivating (she says ‘impossible to ignore’), clever, confident, elegant, intelligent, observant, perceptive, persuasive, polite, punctual, respectful
Negative Personality Traits: Cold, deceptive, intense at times, moody, prejudiced, judgmental, can get frustrated easily, sometimes pushes her luck as far as arguing goes, when she’s upset it’s difficult for her to come to terms with it (recently she has found ways to make this easier…)
Hobbies and Interests: Spending time with her sisters, especially Ella, and Philip as well she supposes—and obviously her matka too, as well as her uncles, though Ares is her favorite uncle. Kickboxing. She's practically a piano prodigy, but you only know that if you're family and even then they would have to twist her arm to get her to play. Running, apparently. Reading HOME because her matka puts together a good magazine. This new pastime of going out with her mother
Character History:
Constance was born on the fourteen of June in the year 1996, the third child of Anicka and Andrew Mountbatten, and was followed by her twin, Temperance Mountbatten. Although she barely remembers this, when she was not yet two years old, she moved, with her matka and her sestras, to Prague. This was when Voldemort was in power, and everything was getting more dangerous, and it was at her father's insistence. She doesn't remember that brief time in Prague all that well, though her and Temperance's second birthday was celebrated there, because the family did not return to England to reunite with her otec until July. Coming back though, her Strýc Dominick was dead, her Strýc Ares wasn't around and her Teta Aurora and her bratranec Nick were gone as well. Though as she got older, memories of them started to fade altogether.
When she was four years old, she started in ballet and in martial arts, per her matka's request, and she excelled at both, though perhaps not quite as much as her sister did. Her wanting to best her sister in the latter skill was a desire she had early (she says "Jeden z těchto dnů!) but it hasn't happened yet. But before we get ahead of ourselves... She started her piano lessons around the same time, and was a natural at the instrument, though don't ask her to choose a favorite between the three, because she loved martial arts, and ballet, and playing the piano pretty much equally. it was in that year as well that her Strýc Ares came back into the picture, and over the years he has definitely solidified his spot as her favorite uncle.
She was always closest with her oldest sister, Ellanora, and was in quiet the mood when her sestra went to Hogwarts and she couldn't go, but eventually she did join her at the school. Ella had already told her that one of the professors at the school, and the deputy headmistress to boot, was their teta, the one that Constance barely remembered. Truly, she didn't even think that she would recognize her, because her memories when she was that young had faded greatly at that point. But she knew who to look for, and when she was brought into the Great Hall to be sorted, there was definitely that a flicker of recognition where she could almost remember spending time with her when she'd been a toddler.
Still, she couldn't focus on that all that much, when the prospect of being sorted was on her mind. The hat was placed on her head, and eventually it called out "Ravenclaw!" and she was able to join her closest sestra's house. Theodora had been sorted into Slytherin, and her twin was sorted after her and was also put into the house in the dungeons. She had thought she would be in between the two houses, and hadn't at all thought about being in Gryffindor or Hufflepuff, so she had known that she would have had a sister with her no matter where she was placed.
Even though there was a few years difference between them, Constance was always closest to her oldest sister, and them being in the same house only solidified that. She was still glad to have the rest of her sisters at Hogwarts with her as well, and Philip as well once he had joined them and was sorted into Slytherin as well. Her cousin was there as well, of course, even if she barely remembered being close to him at all and she didn't speak to him all that much. Of course, she didn't ignore him, but she hadn't been close to him the way that Ella had. So she was really only around him when she was with Ella and he was there, but eventually her oldest sister graduated, and then Theodora did... and then it was her and Temperance's turn.
As their years in school continued, though, the new Minister's regulations got worse. She found out more about the work camp that her otec was subjected to. He was always fine when she saw him, in his suits and acting normal, and she knew that he was strong enough that it couldn't bring him down. But she did hear a lot about it, and knew how horrible it was, and knew that it had to be taking some kind of toll on him. It meant that her hatred of the Ministry really only grew over the years, because of what they were doing to her otec.
Although she spent a fair bit of time in Knockturn Alley, specifically in her strýc's bar (yes, even when she was underage, I did say that she got away with too much...), she never really ventured toward the work camp. It wasn't as if she could go in anyhow, and even if she could, she knew that her otec wouldn't exactly be happy about it and she did know how to do what she was told. Really, if she went to Knockturn Alley alone, she went to her strýc's bar, or she went with one of her sisters to wander about the shops.
When she completed Hogwarts, her hard work in ballet paid off and she got a position in the company, at Avalon School of Ballet. She still kept up with her other interests, kickboxing and trying to beat her sestra, and piano even though as the years went by, she got more and more selective about who she would actually play for. Now, even her family is more likely to hear her play if they happen to be passing the room while her instructor is over. Though if the right person asks nicely, she would probably play for them... still, her focus was obviously on ballet and she has worked her way up to a position as a soloist for the company, though her sister is the principal dancer. But that was not something that she was ever jealous of, or anything that she ever took away from her. She was just glad that they were able to dance for the same company, though she is definitely still determined to best her at martial arts... that hasn't changed.
This last year, or really six months or so, has been... eventful though. The family found out that her Strýc Dominick was not dead at all, and he came back to England. Her teta came back into the picture, but not her cousin. It wasn't bad, it was just a little bit odd, since they were both people that she only barely remembered. Still, family was family, even when it was difficult. Eventually, though, it became clear that their lives were only going to get more complicated. She obviously knew what her matka was, what her strýc was, and when there was an attack in Diagon Alley, she knew that they would have been there because Death Eaters were the ones trying to put their world back into a proper order. She had always envied that her matka had gone to Durmstrang, where mudbloods weren't even allowed through the door, but she did what she could to avoid dealing with them altogether when she could.
But then, her otec died, and she felt a sort of pain that she was unfamiliar with. She had never really lost anyone before. Yes, her teta, her cousin, and her uncles when she was younger, and technically Dominick had been dead, but that wasn't comparable. She had barely known him, and this was her father. She didn't really know how to cope with that, and like her matka who she had gotten her temper from, a lot of her reactions were anger and not being able to calm down or really think clearly. It resulted in more than a few things in the house exploding, and it resulted in her bloodying up her hand when she punched a mirror and it shattered (like matka, like dcera...). This was only made worse by the fact that Ella wouldn't let her leave the house, and the fact that her strýcs had made her matka come stay with them. They had already lost their otec, and she wasn't particularly pleased with either of her strýcs when they tried to take their matka away from them too... even temporarily.
While she was pretty much on domácí vězení, courtesy of Ella being the responsible one, Constance got pissed off enough about being cooped up to sneak out one night. On that night, after being stuck at home and pissed off at everyone, she drank way more than she should, which resulted in her ending up in a stranger's bed. The next morning, she was alone in a strange apartment, her clothes strewn around the apartment, and she had absolutely no recollection of what happened. As quickly as she had been able to with a raging headache, she got dressed, and went home, where Ella only proceeded to make her headache worse... but she didn't tell her what had happened.
Eventually their matka came back, thankfully, though Constance wasn't convinced that she wouldn't have to leave again. She even got mad at her strýc about it, which, even though he was her favorite and she got away with a lot, wasn't something that she really ever did. After all, since she was still trying to grieve and cope and not doing all that great of a job at either, anger was still her first reaction and he had been the one that had decided that her matka needed to be somewhere else. Unfortunately, he made a bit too much sense about it, and she knew that she had gotten her temper from her matka and that she wouldn't want to get upset and hurt them... but still, Constance had not been happy that she had been away from them.
As time went on though, she'd had a hard time getting her mind off of what had happened the night that she couldn't remember... and she assumed that something particularly unladylike had occurred. She certainly knew the tradition that she was supposed to be... well, untouched by another man in that way when she got married, and yet she had no idea what had happened. Because of the circumstances, she could only assume the worst, even if she couldn't remember exactly.
Her matka knew that she was having a hard time trying to deal with and cope with the loss of her otec, and eventually... that led to her going out with her and someone that she had never met before, someone who just happened to be a centuries old vampire. What they did to make themselves feel better that night had been... murdering Muggles and she hadn't expected it to make her feel better as much as it had. But when she had cut the Muggle's throat, it had helped, and that was odd for her. When she felt better about it, she was able to put out of her mind that mysterious night, but she thought it would take more than that to get over losing her otec. Eventually, her matka and the vampire sent her home, which aggravated the Mountbatten, because she wanted in on whatever it was that they would do later... still, she didn't argue too much and instead headed home.
Eventually all of her problems came back to her, far too soon. She couldn't stop thinking about what would happen when she got married, if she wasn't a virgin like she was meant to be, and she had no choice but to talk to Ella about it. She didn't think her sister would tell anyone, and she was the one that had brought up the good point that she didn't remember what happened... so she couldn't assume that it had. And that she could get checked out by a Muggle doctor to find out for sure, to avoid going to the magical hospital where she might be recognized. She eventually asked her matka if she was expected to be... untouched when she was married... and then she asked her Strýc Ares, who refused to answer the question, so she went to her Strýc Dom instead... all in all, their answers were not all that reassuring.
Still, she put it off, and eventually her mind was preoccupied once more, this time by finding out that her matka and her strýc were going to go and kill the Minister, so of course she wanted to go with. Her matka forbid it, said that anyone that went would get in serious trouble, and that she'd know because of the wards. Philip made the decision for them in saying they promised to stay put, though Constance still weighed the pros and cons of sneaking out go to... in the end, though, she did what she was told and she found out that it all went successfully, and that her strýc was now the Minister.
Eventually she admitted to her matka what had happened that night. She gave no details, because before she could, it came out that 'someone' in the family couldn't know, or they would hurt her, and when her matka wouldn't give her any more information, she went to Ares and pressed for information. She felt their disappointment and their frustration at her and what she had done, and for several days she didn't come out of her room at all. She was not at all used to disappointing them, but eventually there was a knock on her door and her matka was there, as was the vampire she had met before.
Her matka wanted her checked out, and that led her to finding out that what had happened that night had not been... what she'd thought. Whatever had come from her clothes being all about the mysterious apartment, her future husband, whomever he might be, would have nothing to be disappointed about. Of course, she then felt horrible that she had worried her matka, and both of her strýcs for nothing, and so she told Ares... and hoped that the information would get to Dominick because she couldn't bring herself to explain a second time. Now that she doesn't have to worry about that, she's trying to adjust to the new... way of things, and pestered her uncle to be hired as his assistant, and being there bright and early of course.
Plots and Politics
Where does your character stand in the treatment of death eaters and their families? Obviously, she has always disagreed with it. For quite some time, her father was in the work camp because of his supposed ‘crimes,’ and while he didn’t necessarily seem affected when she saw him… he was always in suits, and always around, but as she got older, she heard about the horrors of the work camp and knew what was being done to everyone that worked there. She hated them for doing that to him, and their family, and that obviously only got worse over the years, coming to a head when her father died over the summer. Now though, everything was changing.
How was your character and their family affected by the reign and death of Voldemort? Well, her mother and father were both Death Eaters. Two of her uncles were Death Eaters… they were effected because they were loyal to the cause, even if Anicka left England in 1998 for a few months which the children. They were more negatively affected by the death of Voldemort, for obvious reasons. Her uncle was sent to Azkaban, her mother was tried and spent time in the work camp, and her uncle had been killed.

“In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I’ve been turning over in my mind ever since. Whenever you feel like criticizing someone, he told me, just remember that all the people in this world haven’t have the advantages that you’ve had.”
Anicka Ottilie Mountbatten was born a Wentzell. The second child and only daughter of Ondřej and Clara Wentzell. Her father was the head of the family, and her mother was an English woman of pureblood decent that set forth in an arranged marriage, leaving both King and Country behind. At least for awhile. Anicka was still young when her mother and her younger brother set off for England, somewhere that at the time she had no desire to ever set foot in. When she was eleven, after a childhood raised mainly by her father, who's pureblood, and rather Dark, beliefs had instilled themselves in her mind, Anicka was sent to Durmstrang Institute. Anicka, in proving that she was more like her father than her brothers were, was quick to uphold the family values and traditions, even in the halls of the school. Her father often received word of her more questionable behavior, for which she was given a small smile and a nod of approval the next time that he saw her.
Spending her entire life doing whatever she could to make her father believe she was worthy, when he arranged for her to be married to the only son of a pureblood family in England, reluctantly she agreed. Having no desire to displease her father, but also dreading the decision to move her to England where her mother, and her disappointment of a little brother were in residence. Still though she went, and was married to Andrew Mountbatten the summer after she graduated from Durmstrang. Taking her place by his side in every way that she could, when Andrew joined the ranks of the Death Eaters, Anicka was more than willing to take the mark and stand with her husband. She fully believed in everything that they, and the Dark Lord, stood for.
Taking the Mark did not dissuade her from doing her duties as a wife, for that was what she had been sent to England for in the first place. She bore Andrew four daughters, before falling pregnant again in the late fall of 1996. When preparations for the Final Battle came to a head Andrew sent Anicka, their four daughters, and their unborn son back to the Czech Republic, while he and Anicka's elder brother Josef stood with the Dark Lord in the fight. When the Dark Lord fell Josef returned to the Czech Republic, and Anicka took the children back to England. There she and Andrew stood trial for being a part of the Death Eater organization and were sentenced to time in the Minister's new work camp. Anicka was released after a short stint at the camp, because she was not deemed as dangerous as others, and she had proven she was "reformed". She lied. But she was released, and Andrew still remains.
Eventually Anicka decided that the kids were big enough that she could start to work some as well, and the family would not have to live off of what was left of their inheritance from the passing of Andrew's parents. So she took a job with a small publishing company in wizarding London, and from there her reputation grew. Anicka became well known for getting and doing just about anything to make her portion of the magazine the best, and it wasn't but a few years later that she decided to strike out on her own. In July of 2006, nearly ten years ago now, Anicka founded HOME Magazine. An entirely magical publication for the witches of Britain. Her name is the only one on the books, though Andrew does receive a salary from the company. She is known for being cold, and ruthless, and her employees have a tendency to get thing done more out of fear for their employer than respect.
