general appearance
Carin (or Carina, but only when they say so) has wavy strawberry-blonde hair that they straighten depending on their gender. They started out pretty small for the age, but quickly shot up the year before Hogwarts, and continue to grow. While tall and lanky, they work hard for a Beater's build.

They're brown-eyed and faint-eyebrowed, with a round face, faint freckles, and calloused hands. They keep their hair at roughly shoulder-level, despite that fact that then with longer hair, they're misgendered more often.

If in a place they feel comfortable, they sometimes wear a badge that says, quite clearly "PRONOUNS: THEY/THEM/THEIRS".

character history
The child of Susan Bones and Justin Finch-Fletchley, they had a slightly easier childhood than their half-siblings Amelia and Athazaz, thanks to their parents sharing similar views, in a relationship, and being raised in a healthy environment.

At a young age, Carin(a) refused to conform to typical gender roles, and refused to call themself a girl. Their parents, guessing that Carin(a) was trans "in some way", took them to LGBTQ bookstores, which in turn, recommended them to queer resource centers, and Carin(a) started using the pronouns they/them, called themselves genderfluid, and changing their name. They realized that their gender changed, from what might be called "demigirl" to "demiboy", but for most of the time was "agender", and typically go by Carin, though would inform people when they wish to be called Carina. They were happy and they were young, and their parents accepted them, even if Dad's parents didn't as much.

They look up to their older siblings, quite a lot. Amelia and Athazaz are so much older and cooler, it seemed to them, even if the twins don't often have time for them.

Their first signs of magic started being displayed when they were five or so with various little acts such as locks becoming unlocked, and things exploding around them when they grew upset. They still struggle with bursts of magic.

During the Hogwarts lockdown, an argument in the Museum of Quidditch eventually wound up with @flint adopting them in 2018. And things? Right now, they're goin' swell.

family history
Their biological mother's paternal family was is solid Wizarding English family. While the Bones were never a influential largely family there was always a Bones or two in the Ministry and Wizard's Council, often in high-ranking positions. Boneses often took the side of what some might eventually call the "Light", favoring rights for all magical creatures. While they often married other similarly-inclined families, Acanthus Bones married Leta Adrasteia Nott, who was suitably disinherited-- though not disowned-- for marrying a family of such different views and dubious heritage. After the Boneses stood up against Voldemort, Leta was disowned by her family. In the First Wizarding War, the Boneses were all but wiped out, leaving two siblings and a small child. Amelia Bones was killed a year before the official start of the Second Wizarding War, and Aedric Bones passed of natural causes very shortly before the start of the War.

Their maternal grandmother's family are Flints, who were very proud of their placement on the Sacred Twenty-Eight. Brutus Flint, Amelia's great-grandfather, married a Muggle-born women who successfully passed herself off as a witch of magical heritage. Truthfully, Carina Smith had been adopted by her wizarding step-father and had the same surname as him, so the "deception" had mostly not been purposeful. (there had been a few deaths and remarriages to add to the confusion) She and Brutus had two children: Argentia and Agatha Flint. Shortly before the younger of the two sisters started attending Hogwarts, Brutus found out what he perceived to be the truth, and killed his wife for it. Shortly after, Brutus was apprehended by Aurors and sent off to Azkaban, where he quietly died in 1993.

The Finch-Fletchleys are of good Muggle English stock, who are lucky enough to be both wealthy, privileged, and slightly aristocratic, due to many connections to the families of English gentry. Typically, the men are educated well, with their names down for Eton, and then attending Oxford or Cambridge, sometimes with a likely seat in Parliament. Justin, as benefited his family, was set to go to Eton, but that path was extremely interrupted when he received a Hogwarts letter.
