Justin Daniel Nelson
35 - Male - Half-blood - 10/05/1981

Theatrical Professor at Lufkin University, Actor, Author

Appearance and Personality
General Appearance: Danny has deep brown curly hair, occasionally buzzed short when he feels like it. The frizzy locks often help give him a larger stature, but he stands firmly at 5'7 ever since he was seventeen. He often has a bit of scruff when he forgets to shave, and his clothes are often rumpled from chasing his daughter around the house (and, you know, running around the stage lecturing his students).
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Skills: Acting. It's a skill that he developed when he was young (much to his father's initial fear). He started out performing in musicals to flirt with girls, but he quickly found that he had fallen in love with the art. He loves pulling the wool over the audience's eyes. Lying; it's basically acting! Analyzing; he has a pretty focused brain and is strong with categorizing. Danny is always methodical and uses his brain more than his heart. Others include: Muggle card tricks, teaching, and getting into trouble.
Weaknesses: Emotions; he doesn't tend to show them, like, ever. His mother once remarked that he was extremely robotic at times. He always puts logic before any part of his feelings, and often gathers facts long before it's needed. Maggie; he loves his wife more than anything. It might have taken him a long time to try to figure out his feelings, but they're just as strong as ever. Lydia; he treasures his daughter just as much as his wife. Others include: sweets, being wrong, feeling passed over.
Positive Personality Traits: Persistent, confident, encouraging, meticulous, determined, snarky
Negative Personality Traits: Neurotic, anxious, self-centered, prickly, stern, arrogant, sullen
Hobbies and Interests: Acting, cooking, Muggle magic tricks, writing, telling stories to Lydia
Character History:

Justin Daniel Nelson was born on a blustery Autumn day, his mother going into labor just as she was trying to navigate through Grand Central station. After being born a day late it was clear to the Nelsons that their son wasn't going to be as sweet and gentle as their eldest daughter was, so they braced themselves for the worst. Thankfully, Danny wasn't as bad as he could have been. He was kind with Beatrice (his 'Bee-uh', as he said), nice to their cat, and was immediately coddled by both of his parents. Danny had been the boy that Jacob had wanted, the one that could carry on in the family business. Unfortunately for his father, he had absolutely no desire to be involved in law and politics no matter how well it seemed that he argued.

When he was seven his younger sister was born, and Danny was immediately declared the 'family doll'. His two sisters spent a lot of time dressing him up and parading him about that he found himself immediately taken with theater. Although his father didn't want Danny there, Lula didn't seem to mind the fact that her son was intrigued by acting. She was, however, bothered when the boy had decided to perform Muggle magic. Lula was a Muggleborn witch that was constantly in fear that her son would get them in trouble with MACUSA, finding them far more dangerous than any of the Ministry of Magics that she had lived under. Although Jacob convinced his wife that Danny wouldn't be doing any harm, she was constantly wary of the fake magic, watching over her son anxiously.

At eleven he went to Ilvermorny where he was a Pukwudgie. He made quite a few friends in school, although after the war everything seemed to get a bit wonky. Danny was a fast-talking boy from New York. He had friends that were Muggles, he had friends that were Squibs, and he had a friend that he was pretty sure was a Vampire. When he got to Ilvermorny there were people concerned with everything that was happening overseas, and people had begun to take sides. Although he attempted to ignore what was going on, there was a huge fight in his third year about whether or not Harry Potter or Voldemort had been correct. Danny had been a strong Potter defender and had promptly lost half of his friends, which he was certain ruined his trust of people.

He retreated into his books after that, only wanting to read and work on writing his own stories. In another unfortunate event a few other students had stolen his journal full of ideas, burning it during dinner one evening. Danny retreated further into himself, and that was when his anxiety and neurosis began to kick in. Everything had to be in the correct order for him; he clung to routine as he attempted to make his way through school without being bothered. He had always been particular, but the problems at school had caused it to get even worse. He should have turned to his sisters, but he never did; he wanted to deal with things himself. In his final year, Danny ended up turning to the wrong crowd instead. When he graduated, he became involved in a few schemes that had gotten him in some trouble (bank robbery, insurance fraud, and more), all having to do with using magic on both Muggles and other wizards. He managed to escape the wrath of MACUSA, mainly due to a mistake. People knew him as Danny, but he had only gone by Justin Atlas with those that had been committing the crimes.

His mother knew, though, and managed to reign him in by placing him on unofficial house arrest the year after he nearly got caught. Lula made sure that her son stayed home while she was at work, often demanding that he clean the house or run errands. Danny always did what she requested, knowing it was best not to cross the witch. As he stayed home he studied seriously to become a teacher and did what he did best- he wrote. In the four years that he was home Danny had written two books, a thing that he attributed to Time-Turners and dumb luck. They were published that year, and when he was being interviewed, he met Maggie.

Margaret Joy had been a reporter for the Daily Prophet and had been asked (well, begged) by her colleagues at The Magical Times to write up an article as a guest. One of their reporters was on maternity leave, and they were willing to offer Maggie twice her regular pay just for her to stay in New York for two months. She was willing to do it; she had never been to New York. She really hadn't expected to be reporting on Daniel Nelson, though. Upon first meeting the man, she wanted to punch him in the face. The next time that they met, she did.

Danny never knew how to act around Maggie, and she knew it. After their original setback Maggie decided that this was the man she was going to spend her life with. Danny was a cold and emotionless magician and wizard from New York, and she was an extremely emotional witch from Scotland. It took a year before she convinced him to go out with her despite the fact that she had already moved home by then. They dated casually for a year before Danny was able to admit that he genuinely liked her, and then two more years later they married. After tying the knot they moved back to London, where Danny got a post with Lufkin and his wife worked for the Prophet.

Plots and Politics
What is your character’s stance on the recent takeover of the Ministry by Death Eaters? "My wife is a Muggleborn, and so's my Mom. 'Scuse me while I go freak out and try to convince my wife to move... Too late."

Where did your character stand in the treatment of Death Eaters and their families under the late Minister Durant's rule? He's all for making them pay for reparations, but the work camps were a bit too much. Then again, they are really crappy people raising their kids to believe the wildest things.

How was your character and their family affected by the reign and death of Voldemort? He was pretty young when Voldemort rose again, but he lived in America at the time. Although he wasn't outwardly affected Ilvermorny heard a great deal of chatter and sides were taken. People questioned the Order's motives, and while Danny wasn't part of that group it cost him a few friends. His wife's grandparents were killed in the collapse of Millennium Bridge.

Family
Parents: Jacob Nelson and Lula Nelson (nee Bailey)
Siblings: Megan Nelson (28) and Beatrice Riecke (39)
Children: Lydia Nelson (5)
Partner: Maggie Nelson (nee Joy)
Other Relevant Family: Leah Riecke, niece (7)
Family History:
Jacob Nelson was born to a wealthy Virginian family, and in fact hailed from one of the first families of America. His family had started with Squibs, a fact that he proudly declares to everyone that he knows. Thomas Nelson the Second was seventeen when his family went to the New World, and he was promptly abandoned there when his parents realized he had no actual magic. Thomas was present for the signing of the Declaration of Independence and was actually pretty important in the New World up until his youngest son showed signs of magic. They disappeared into the background soon after.

When Jacob was born, his parents broke the streak of 'no girls' by having two other girls. Jacob adored his sisters and decided that he, too, wanted to break the streak of male Nelsons.

On the other hand, Lula Bailey was born into a family that was primarily female. She was one of six girls, her mother was one of five girls, and her grandmother was the last of seven girls. She was shocked when she met Jacob Nelson's family for the first time. They were opposite of her family; her mom had moved them around every so often (her career being that of 'psychic'). The Nelsons were rooted in Virginia up until Lula expressed interest in visiting New York. Jacob quickly packed he and his girlfriend up to stay in the city where they were quietly funded by the Nelson's up until their quiet death.

Other: He really likes card tricks.

PENDING!

Just two things before we can sort. One is very nitpicky so forgive me in advance! But first things first, math...

1. He would actually be 34, since he hasn't had his birthday yet this year! If you want him to be 35, just changing his birth year to 1981! Otherwise just change his age to 34 :D

2. In plots and politics you said he was eleven when it happened, and I'm just trying to clarify what the 'it' is! Because he was 15 during the Battle of Hogwarts, and he would have been... 12 when he officially rose again!

That's it! After that is fixed, I can sort :D
