Lucy Janet MacGuffin
22 - Female - Pureblood - 8/15/1995

Lufkin Student, 2nd year CoMC, 1st year Dragonology - Nurse

Appearance and Personality
General Appearance: Lucy is of moderate height, slightly above 5’5’’. With her blonde hair, grey eyes, dimples, and seemingly permanently smiling face, she looks very little like her older brother at first sight. But like in character, as striking as the differences are, as astounding similar the two siblings can their expression be. Similar to her brother, Lucy long didn't care for her appearance, more precisely for ladylike behaviour - something that especially her aunt criticizes regularly. She does wish to come across as more mature, but still, if Lucy doesn’t pay attention, she more hops than walks. She simply has trouble sitting still.
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Skills: Dealing with humans, Dealing with animals, Taking care of others, Healing, patience
Weaknesses: purely logical thinking, her overflowing emotions, her brother, appearing dignified, accepting her limits
Positive Personality Traits: sweet, hardworking, sunny temper, out-going, happy-go-lucky, egalitarian, confident
Negative Personality Traits: OVERLY trusting like her brother, firmly believing in the good in everybody, panics easily when she fears for a beloved one, stubborn, overestimates herself (and others)
Hobbies and Interests: Healing, animals, helping wherever she can, emitting joy, cheering up her brother, campaining for the equality of all sentient beings, Scottish Rugby
Character History:
As the heir to the MacGuffin name, Lucy's father, Miles MacGuffin, was always treated more kindly by his parents. Saoirse always doted on him, knitting him little sweaters that he wore religiously until the age of thirteen. When Miles MacGuffin finally came of age, he was married to Hazel Bernard, a French pureblood (who for some reason has an English name, don't ask me) that he had met while vacationing in the South of France with some of his school mates. Theirs was a relationship born out of love and a mutual fascination with each other, a sharp contrast to the arranged marriage his brother, Henry, was faced with. Miles and Hazel lived together in harmony, and that is what Lucy knows and considers not an ideal, but normality.

Lucy had a happy childhood with everybody doting on her and her doting on everybody, especially her brother who spent much of his time with her. Aged seven, her first bitter experience was to watch her brother board the Hogwarts Express and leave her for far too long. Lucy therefore quickly learnt writing long letters that she regularly sent to her brother, informing him about every detail of her life and eagerly asking after his. It was nine years old Lucy who immediately after Monet's, the family dog's, death sat down and reported the tragic event to her brother, continuing to send encouraging letters daily for about two weeks until her parents decided that the owl needed a break (Lucy felt terribly bad for the poor thing then).

When Lucy finally got sent to Hogwarts in 2006, her sorting was as quickly over as her brother’s though it caused far less surprise. Admittedly, Lucy would have liked to be a Gryfffindor to be closer to her brother, but she was nervous enough during the Sorting not to insist. Nobody else had really doubted her belonging into Hufflepuff, considering with how much love and care she approached everyone and everything. She was a zealous student, eager to live up to her brother's marks and to make him proud of her. Despite nearly everyone she came across being her friend, she was nevertheless miserable when her fourth year came, meaning that her brother would be no longer there to help her with whatever question she had. His far more analytical temper had always been a great help with her slightly chaotic approach to her undertakings. And Elliot was the only person who could make her relent in an overly ambitious project - because to disagree with her brother would be sacrilege. Of course, she sent him letters regularly, even when he removed to Romania.

In summer 2013, just after Lucy had successfully completed her NEWTs, everything she had planned to do after her education (and she had had many more or less unrealistic projects) was immediately forgotten. Her brother returned from Romania, but not to spend more time with her, no, horribly injured. Of course, there was no other place in the world for Lucy but beside Elliot's sickbed, resulting in her almost living in St Mungo's. Finally, to convince her parents to let her stay there, she became a nurse-in-training, both because it gave her more opportunity to be around her brother and because she thought that it better suited her to directly deal with the sick than the more distanced profession of a Healer. Patients mostly just wanted people around who cared for them, and this Lucy was determined to do. Both for physical therapy as for his education, Elliot remained at the hospital for two and half years. Naturally, so did Lucy. For three years, she was zealously devoted to her calling, but when her brother had fully recovered, Lucy decided she also wanted some animal-related specialization and started to study Magizoology at Lufkin in summer 2016, keeping her nurse job on a smaller scale. After her first year, she was so enthusiastic about studying that she decided to follow in her brother’s footsteps once more - to his great concern Lucy is determined to start with Dragonology in addition to Magizoology. After a lot of reasoning, Elliot at least managed to prove to her that she could not also begin as Healer-in-training nor start to work in a menagerie. Grudgingly, she redressed her ambitions to her studies and the nurse job. She is determined though to start as a Healer-in-Training once she finished at Lufkin because she decided that the wizarding world was in dire need of Magiveterany Surgeons.

As much as her parents are supportive of her ambitions, they also hope that if Lucy was busy enough, the current political climate would more likely escape her notice. All but a short while ago, it had looked as if Pureblood-beliefs were dead, and her parents had therefore done nothing to contradict Lucy's egalitarian beliefs that might now bring her in trouble should she voice them opposite the wrong people. To her family's relief, Lucy’s current biggest concern is entirely harmless in terms of Pureblood doctrines - she is completely hyperventilating about her brother’s marriage. She had long mourned that her wonderful brother was alone, being as sweet and handsome as he was - in short the best brother, the best man, in the whole wide world. Now that he finally married an old friend of his, she is thrilled to have a sister.

Plots and Politics
What is your character’s stance on the recent takeover of the Ministry by Death Eaters? As Lucy keeps herself mostly informed about political events via her parents and her brother, she is unaware of the grimmest aspects of the new reign. She knows that the situation for (as she staunchly believes former) Death Eaters and werewolves has ameliorated, and she is happy that they’re better off. She is slightly disturbed by what little she hears about the treatment of the Muggleborns, but as she doesn’t have an all too clear idea of how they are treated, she is certain that it can only be a short-lived misunderstanding. Soon, there would be harmony between every magical and non-magical being like it should be.

Where did your character stand in the treatment of Death Eaters and their families under the late Minister Durant's rule? Her uncle, Henry MacGuffin, was imprisoned in Azkaban during Minister Durant’s reign, but she hardly knew him. She was sure though that the Death Eaters had to be sorry for the misery they had caused, and she was convinced that it was time to forgive. Nobody could willingly hurt another human being, and there had to have been very tragic misunderstandings. Everybody should forgive everybody. As a strong advocate for equality among all magical beings, Lucy was also indignant about the discrimination of werewolves though she had no idea about the whole scale of the affair.

How was your character and their family affected by the reign and death of Voldemort? Lucy’s uncle and aunt, Henry and Eleanor MacGuffin, were known supporters of Lord Voldemort during his rise, which meant the rest of the MacGuffin family was under suspicion for some time. However, Miles and Hazel, Elliot’s parents, were never involved with the Dark Lord and remained clean and unmarked. Also, Lucy is very proud to be distantly related to Ernie Macmillan whose participation in the Battle of Hogwarts is well-known.

Family
Parents: Miles MacGuffin, Hazel MacGuffin née Bernard
Siblings: (26)
Children: None
Partner: None
Other Relevant Family: Deaglan & Saoirse MacGuffin (grandparents), Henry and Eleanor (Lanfen Zhāng) MacGuffin (uncle & aunt), @cora (cousin), @ellanora (sister-in-law); distantly related to the Changs (Zhāngs), the Travers, the Zabinis, the Shafiqs
Family History:
(From Elliot’s app:)
The MacGuffin family was a prominent Irish pureblood family in the early days, but they slowly fell toward the bottom of the ranks as the modern age took hold of the wizarding world. When Deaglan MacGuffin married the youngest of the Macmillan daughters, Saoirse, their status barely rose. Even though long ago, Melania Macmillan married into the most noble house of Black, the more recent iterations of the Macmillan family were considered poor and hardly above blood-traitor status.

Shortly after their marriage, Deaglan and Saoirse had two boys, Miles (the oldest) and Henry MacGuffin. Constantly in competition, Miles and Henry were always in a race to the finish line, whether it was who could impress their parents with the most exotic spells or who could score the most goals during extended family Quidditch.

When Miles came of age, he was married to Hazel Bernard, a French pureblood that he had met while vacationing in the South of France with some of his school mates. Theirs was a relationship born out of love and a mutual fascination with each other, but Henry was not so lucky. A few years later, when Henry came of age, he met Eleanor (Lanfen Zhāng), his arranged marriage, designed to bring together two more lower-branched pureblood families in matrimony. They had met during their years at Hogwarts where they were both sorted into the Slytherin House. It was nothing more than annoyance — they neither loathed nor loved one another and that continued to be the case until their marriage.

Miles steered clear of choosing sides during the reign of Voldemort, but Henry was keen on joining up and received the Dark Mark as soon as he was able. The two sons spoke less and less over the next few years as Miles focused more on his family, though he never gave up on his brother and constantly argued for him in the court of law.

Now, with two grown up children, Miles and Hazel have settled into retirement in the highlands of Ireland where they often go hunting with their Irish Red Setter, van Gogh.

‘Look thou not on beauty’s charming,-
Sit thou still when kings are arming,-
Taste not when the wine-cup glistens,-
Speak not when the people listens,-
Stop thine ear against the singer,-
From the red gold keep thy finger,-
Vacant heart, and hand, and eye,-
Easy live and quiet die.’
