Percival "Perry" Higgs
14 - Male - Halfblood - 10/09/2003

Student

Appearance and Personality
General Appearance: Perry has a youthful face and wide, watering eyes. He's pretty short for his age and built like a beanpole, but has a surprising amount of strength for his age. He kind of had to; his uncle and his father were both quidditch players, while his mum used to be a professional dancer. So he was pretty much raised to be tough. Perry wears wide-rimmed glasses due to being nearsighted and the occasional headband or sweatband when he's playing quidditch. His light brown/dirty blond hair he got from his dad, and from his mum he got his light green eyes. From both of them he got furrowed brows and a serious expression, which is often on his face.
Sexual Orientation: Demisexual
Skills: Flying; he's really into it. Like, he prefers flying a lot more than walking, but that's because it's a lot easier to forget himself when he's up in the air. Reading; he does a lot of reading, and it's probably his second favorite thing to do. Perry likes to build books around him like a castle, both metaphorically and physically. His sister doesn't care for it. Puzzles; he likes doing crosswords and word puzzles, so he's good at critical thinking, and Perry finds it enjoyable. Runes; he's already studying them on his own, just to get a step ahead. Gobstones is another strength of his, and he thinks that he's pretty decent at Arithmancy. That's another puzzle, albeit a bit harder.
Weaknesses: Potions; it's so complicated that he manages to confuse himself and second guess a few critical steps. He has a knack for exploding things on himself, which really isn't very fun. He's also a hypochondriac, which does tend to work against him. At least once a week (or every other week) Perry manages to convince himself that he's sick. His anxiety is another weakness; it all just seems to go hand in hand, and he hates it. He's also blind as a bat without his glasses, he tends to mumble, and when he isn't mumbling he's talking very fast. Perry hates when people use his full name (although it isn't quite a weakness).
Positive Personality Traits: Well-spoken, intelligent, focused, determined, resourceful, tactful, pragmatic
Negative Personality Traits: Anxious, shy, has a one-track mind, rude to strangers, a bit cocky, easily frustrated, easily overwhelmed
Hobbies and Interests: Quidditch, racing, reading, puzzles, Gobstones
Character History:
It was really funny, when he thought about it. His parents had wanted children more than anything, but they were career-oriented, so by the time that they got around to it all of his dad's friends already had kids close to starting Hogwarts. Perry always found it cool that his 'cousins' were so much older than he was, and he personally thought that it made things easier when he was growing up. He already had inside knowledge into certain spells and potions, and he basically had an outline of the school pretty early on— he had demanded that someone help him draw it when he turned seven. There was no way that he was going to end up lost on his first day of school. He was the kid who liked to get places hours early because he was so scared of being late. Perry knew that it bothered his mother to no end; she was always so flighty, so late, and he would get nervous and panic when they were running even close to fifteen minutes late. So he used his elder 'cousins' to his advantage, he made sure that he had his own way around Hogwarts even as he got there.

Perry had a pretty normal childhood, at least in his opinion, but it really wasn't like that. He spent a lot of time trying to figure out whether or not he was sick, he had large medical books in his room that he often flipped through. Perry was so often concerned that he was sick that he often convinced his mother that he was. Of course, Fay wasn't that gullible. She would often just give him Pumpkin Juice to keep him from freaking out. She also taught him a few grounding techniques, making sure that he knew how to breathe through the difficult moments. That's not what a lot of people focus on telling their seven year olds, but Fay wanted to make sure that Perry knew how to work through the hard moments. She read up on everything, she made sure that Perry felt like he knew what to do even when things felt crushing.

He didn't grow up thinking that he was weird, for the most part. Other people just considered him quiet, his cousins considered him to be quirky, and he moved through life just focusing on whatever he was interested in. Someone once spread a rumor that his family practiced Dark Rituals, and somehow that had made him more popular (for about a week). That was, roughly, true. His parents did practice darker magics, but that was because they held a strong belief that magic was not 'good' or 'bad'. Magic was just magic, and that was what Perry had grown up knowing. He gets into a lot of arguments about that, because while people sit there and insist that Muggleborns are less powerful, he knows otherwise. He might not think that they're good per say, but he can't stand by when people are factually incorrect.

His parents were a bit sad to see him go off to Hogwarts, but Perry was excited to be able to be in a place where he could learn and not feel smothered. The Sorting was exciting, to say the least, and he isn't quite sure how his parents feel about it. Sure, they say that they don't care, but it's still a bit nerve-wracking. He knows he blows things out of proportion, but he's trying to get better and move on. He just isn't sure how, he's still a bit young.

Plots and Politics
What is your character’s stance on the recent takeover of the Ministry by Death Eaters? So, he isn't the biggest fan of Death Eaters. His dad was approached and told that he ought to join, but Terence was a bit more concerned with playing Quidditch (rightfully so, in Perry's opinion). Perry's a bit more interested in the newest regime, finding that the last one was rather stupid. He doesn't think that the new Minister is going to be as cruel and ridiculous, but he's not holding his breath.

Where did your character stand in the treatment of Death Eaters and their families under the late Minister Durant's rule? He's sure his granddad was involved in shady dealings, and it's no secret that his dad's friends were pretty Dark Slytherins. But Perry never really connected those things when he was learning about the work camps. He really thought that there were parts that made sense, especially since he thinks that Blood Purity is a stupid concept.

How was your character and their family affected by the reign and death of Voldemort? His dad's family was pretty much involved on the Voldemort side, but not, like, extensively. Terence Higgs and his brother Kyle lost a few friends to the Dark Lord, and they also broke a few promises and friendships because of it. Fay lost two aunts, an uncle, a cousin, and a sister.

Family History:
Fay Dunbar never really thought that she would make it out of the Second Wizarding War alive. Well, she was convinced that she wouldn't make it out of Hogwarts alive, what with being in the same year and house as Harry Potter. But she managed to do it, if just barely. She had lost her best friend, she had lost her sister, and a bunch of family. Most of her Hogwarts career had been filled with far too many twists and turns; in her first, fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh years one of the professors had been trying to kill a student. Someone had died in some of those years, and she had been rather grateful that she had made it out alive. Of course, graduation had shoved them into war, and Fay retreated into Avalon.

Terence Higgs didn't think twice about the Gryffindor girl with pigtails that he had met, once, on the Hogwarts train. She was a first year when they first crossed paths, and he had more important things to do. He was too busy trying to keep himself on the Quidditch team (he ended up switching from Seeker to Chaser in his third year when Malfoy bribed him to). He didn't even think about the future; Terence wanted to make sure that he survived Slytherin, what with the impending doom on the horizon (because it was coming, he knew that, despite the fact that his parents tried to pretend like nothing was going to happen).

Their paths didn't cross again until after Hogwarts. Terence was playing for the Magpies and his brother was playing for the Tornadoes when they had decided to go out to party after a rather terrible match (the Tornadoes had won, of course). Fay had been out with her friend Sara, and, well, the rest was history. They dated for a while, got married, and then decided that they weren't having kids until they both were required to retire from their respective careers. Terence played on the National team for a little bit, and Fay moved up the ranks of Avalon. Both of them were still trying to get over the war, and when Fay turned forty they decided that they wanted to have kids.
