Philip James Gordon Peters
52 - Male - Halfblood - 11/12/1962

Hogwarts Librarian

Appearance and Personality
General Appearance: He is a slender man. Not very much muscle definition, though he does have some from climbing. Dark brown hair kept long and brown eyes. With a well trimmed mustache and beard, he tends to look like a ‘hipster’ as the Muggles call it. Personally he thinks he looks more piratical, but the glasses don’t really lend that effect. There is a smattering of tattoos across his arms and torso, souvenirs of his rebellious youth.
Sexual Orientation: Pansexual
Skills: Arithmancy/Maths, Runes, Flying, Climbing, Sneaking about, Cooking
Weaknesses: Defensive spells, Remembering to eat, Swimming, Divination, Gwen’s pot pie, His daughters
Positive Personality Traits: Soft spoken, Well read, Open minded, Fantastic memory (about books, at least), Calm, Relatable, Adventurous, Honest, Quick study, Generous
Negative Personality Traits: Passive, Brash, Impulsive, Forgetful, Critical of himself, Impatient, Possessive, Lazy
Hobbies and Interests: Reading, Learning new things, Exploring, Climbing, Runes, Obscure languages
Character History:
Phillip James Gordon Peters, better known as PJ, was born late on the 12th of November as the first flurries of the year fell upon the Irish ground. He was a quiet child, hardly making a fuss unnecessarily--a trait his parents were grateful for. Curious about the world, he explored their expansive backyard as often as he was allowed, inventing villains to defeat among the trees and cliffs of his seaside home. Young as he was, he fancied himself a pirate, and carried his wooden ‘cutlas’ with him everywhere for years.

At Hogwarts, he was sorted into Hufflepuff after a lengthy discussion between himself and the Hat--after which the Hat seemed a bit resigned (as much as a sentient hat can look resigned) while PJ hopped down and skipped off with a grin. Throughout his stay, PJ spent the vast majority of his time in the Library, reading up on whatever subject caught his fancy of the moment. While studious, he wasn’t a particularly academic student, passing each class with mostly E’s and A’s and a couple O’s. Unremarkable, all things considered.

Following his graduation from Hogwarts, PJ witnessed Voldemort’s first rise to power and his subsequent defeat. His unremarkable nature kept him from being noticed, protected him and his family from being questioned, captured, or killed. It was after this that he met Gwen. An American witch visiting distant relatives, the pair literally ran into each other at a small bookshop cafe and he offered to pay for her beverage as an apology. He showed her the sights, both touristy and the lesser known marvels of his home country, small as it is. They traded addresses and promises to write when she had to leave, both of which they kept close to their hearts.

For a year, they sent letters and pictures back and forth, until Gwen finally caught a plane back to Ireland and stayed for good. It was clear to both of them that whatever it was between them, it wasn’t something to take lightly and they agreed to take things slow while letting the dice fall where they may. They dated for two years, one of which was spent living together, before PJ finally proposed in the same cafe where they’d met. Now happily married for 27 years, they’re just as in love as they were thirty years ago, much to their daughters’ disgust. His three daughters are his pride and joy, each brilliant in their own right.

For a while, PJ was a stay-at-home dad; cleaning house, cooking meals, and entertaining his daughters became his job until his youngest went off to school and he was left home alone for nine months out of the year. Bored, he decided to apply for the position of Hogwarts Librarian to occupy himself. He has maintained the position for the last four years, much to his youngest daughter’s embarrassment. Being among the books once again is a comfort to PJ, and he enjoys his job greatly.

Plots and Politics
Where does your character stand in the treatment of death eaters and their families? He finds their treatment dramatically unfair, though he knows there's little he can do about it. While he wants justice served, he thinks that the Minister is going about it entirely wrong.

How was your character and their family affected by the reign and death of Voldemort? He and his family weren't much affected by Voldemort any more than the majority of the Wizarding population. Their unremarkable status within society left them fairly invisible to the Dark Lord's wrath.

Family History:
The Peters are a well respected Wizarding family from Ireland. Gordon was born and raised in the same small town, where the saying “It takes a village to raise a child” is frequently put into practice. A stocky child, he was often looked down upon by his peers--both literally and figuratively. However, what Gordon lacked in height he more than made up for in agility and strength. During his time at Hogwarts, Gordon was a star athlete and passable student--much like his son, in that area. In his seventh year, he even had professional Quidditch scouts visit one of his games. Of course, nobody told him there were scouts in the stands, or he’d have avoided attempting a Wronski Feint when he knew he hadn’t mastered it just yet. Unfortunately, that attempt landed him in the Hospital Wing with injuries that would forever alter his ability to play the game with his former skill. Feeling mildly rejected but knowing it was his own stupid, reckless fault; Gordon turned his focus to his studies in an attempt to achieve grades high enough for a job he might at least tolerate. To do this, he enlisted the help of one Ravenclaw by the name of Nina.

Nina Peters, formerly Lancaster, was a soft spoken child from the start. Willowy and tall for her age, she towered over her classmates for most of her time at school. She kept to herself, for the most part, preferring to spend her time among the books and dust of the Library instead of with her classmates. So when the well known jock of the school approached her with an arm in a sling and a plea for help, she seriously considered turning him down. But her mother had always told her to help those in need, and Gordon was obviously in need. Two people couldn’t be more opposite if they tried, and the pair could frequently be found arguing over something or other. And yet, in those last six months of their time at school, Nina and Gordon found themselves drawn together like magnets.

After sixty years of marriage, they don’t bicker any less than they did at seventeen, but there’s an unquestionable undertone of fond exasperation in every sigh. They’re both retired now, content to laze about and enjoy nature from the back porch of their seaside cottage. The grandkids visit occasionally, and PJ does his best to gather the family at least once a year, usually for Christmas, but sometimes for Easter when he can manage it. All in all, Gordon and Nina Peters are pleased with their life and what they’ve made of it.
