general appearance
A brunette with deep espresso voluminous curls, Delilah stands at a modest height of 5’6”. She has a thin, but feminine figure. The witch was uncomfortable in her skin for a long time, but has aged very well. She is considered quite lovely these days. She walks with elegance—her head held high, a soft smile ever present on her lips. Her face and eyes are very expressive. A gaze from the witch can cause the target of her attention to feel a lovely swell of joy or freeze in silence. She is very precise with her movements, but has a very natural grace: grace that was cultivated by dance in her youth.

skills
POTIONEERING ✓ Delilah really was brilliant at potioneering. She flourished in her career as a pharmacist and delighted in the work she did. The epidemic took away her ability to brew, but the witch is still an incredible repository of knowledge, nuance, and tricks. She can still modify a potion recipe without even the smallest struggle. She deeply understands the nature of potionology and has a true mastery over it. It is said it take 10,000 hours to become an expert at something--Delilah easily has 30,000 hours in front of a cauldron.

COOKING ✓ The witch loves to cook. She finds it to be very much like brewing. She always used charms and magic before--and had even began work on a magical cookbook before the epidemic. Now, she has been learning how to prepare meals without the use of magic. It is still something she enjoys.

CHARMS ✓ The witch tends towards charms and helpful spells when she is crafting new magic. Or she did... Now, she just discusses theory and guides others.

ARITHMANCY ✓ Attention to detail and a sharp understanding of numbers and mathematics made Arithmancy second nature for Delilah. She loves the finite nature of the study.

CHESS ✓ Delilah has a passion for chess and has been tutored in playing. A number of Russian Masters have guided the development of her skill. She is quite good and deeply competitive.

RESEARCH ✓ The woman loves to learn. She loves to decompose problems--to dive into data. She finds anomalies with ease. She loves to lose herself in these sorts of tasks.

EXPERIMENTATION ✓ Oh, an activity that requires she have absolute control and be in charge of every detail possible?! Yes, please!

ANALYTICAL SKILLS ✓ Have a puzzle? Delilah will solve it. She has a knack for finding answers and crafting solutions. It made her excel in her spell invention studies. This skill set is incredibly important for her in her new research role.

WORKING ✓ The witch has incredible work ethic. It is nothing for her to work a twelve hour day. She has done it for years. She lives to work. It validates her. It stimulates her mind.
weaknesses
INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS ✗ Delilah prefers cauldrons to people. She prefers books to people. She prefers experimental specimens to people. Really she prefers just about anything to people...

ABSENT MOTHER ✗ Delilah takes after her mother in a lot of ways, but she hardly knows that since Odelia is and has always been so absent from her life. She was raised to believe it was acceptable to completely submerge herself into work and nothing more.

EQ ✗ Emotions are not a strength for this witch.  She has cultivated very few relationships because of this.

IMPATIENT ✗ Why has no progress been made on Epidemic X? Why are you standing in the way? Why is there a line?! She hates it all.

SHORT TEMPER ✗ It flares. Be wary.

WORKAHOLIC ✗ Delilah basically had a nervous breakdown when she lost her magic. Work was everything for her and she felt lost without it. But now she has new work!!! Very exciting.
positive traits
Delilah is incredibly competitive. This defines her personality above all else. The woman is clever, cunning and willing to do anything to achieve her goals. She is quite intelligent and excels at potions. While she may be able to convince you of something with her eloquence, she does not mind using alternative means to achieve her goals: social connections, good looks, or illegal measures. Delilah will bend the rules, if it is to her advantage to do so. The witch is very detail oriented. She has an excellent memory—for the good and bad that such a memory brings her.
negative traits
Delilah can easily become consumed by her work. She, much like her mother, is known to retreat into work anytime that she is discomforted by any aspect of her personal or social life. She is not the best at establishing strong interpersonal known for her eloquence and sarcasm. Always ready with her sharp tongue, she can be a bit cruel at times. While she always observes social norms and maintains politically correct behavior, she has significant blood status prejudices. She believes muggles to be a danger to the planet and avoids ever leaving the wizarding world.
hobbies/interests
Unlike her mother, Delilah is an excellent cook and absolutely loves to cook. She has secretly began to work on a wizarding cookbook, which includes ingredients lists charmed to scale based on the desired number of portions and detailed illustrations of how to perform the charms.

Delilah is quite a fan of professional Quidditch. She favors the Tutshill Tornadoes, attending matches anytime she is able. This is quite often considering her uncle owns the team. For many years, she hoped to play on the team, but found more passion and fulfillment in potioneering than athletics.

Chess and other analytical games are pleasurable to her—she likes to exercise her mind, as well as her body. Though not many would consider work a hobby, it is something that consumes a great deal of Delilah’s time. She loves what she does and spends a lot of her time in and out of the hospital in front of a cauldron.

Yoga helps her find some semblance of work-life balance.
accomplishments
She has specialized treatment for hundreds of St. Mungo's patients.

She has altered countless potion recipes to account for allergies and intolerance.

character history
Delilah was a surprise—an accident—unplanned—whatever you want to call a baby conceived to those neither married nor attempting to bring a child into the world. Her mother was still in school when she learned she was pregnant. It worked out reasonably well. Her mother and father got married as soon as her mother graduated and Delilah was born in August that year.

The marriage might have started with a shotgun wedding, but it was reasonably happy and has lasted. Delilah’s mother started attending Lufkin right away, not letting a child keep her from building a career. This is something that Delilah really respects her mother for. She thinks women should be so much more than just baby making factories.

Her childhood was reasonably normal. There was no great tragedy or struggle that marked her early life. The witch showed her magical proclivities early. She was seen days after her second birthday summoning a toy from across the room. She was always a bit lazy like that.

When Delilah was seven, another joined their little family. It took quite some time for Delilah to realize that her baby brother was her brother and not a toy or pet brought home for her to play with (even though a baby made a terrible toy…always making so much noise or just sleeping). With the age gap, Delilah and Owen were never really close. She was off to Hogwarts by the time he was beginning to get interesting---and really close relationships cannot be cultivated over summer breaks.

The witch was very excited to go off to Hogwarts. She already loved learning and was eager to learn and experience more. Fiercely independent, she wanted to prove herself. Bucking the precedent set by a lot of her parents and many of her other family members (even though there are lots of Graves sorted into Ravenclaw)—Delilah informed the Sorting Hat quite forcefully that she was not to be placed in Slytherin, as was its first suggestion. Instead, she was to be a Ravenclaw. The old artifact saw the merits of her suggestion and with its exclamation of her house, the witch was given a navy tie.

It was in Ravenclaw that Delilah met the girl that would be her very best friend: Ellanora Leighton Mountbatten. The two were quite fast friends. They shared an interest in ballet and would practice together while at school. Delilah even learned a bit of martial arts from the other witch, though never took to the practice as much as her friend had.

Scholastically, Delilah excelled, particularly in Potions, Charms, Alchemy, and, of course, Arithmancy. It was in these subjects she received Outstandings on both her OWL and NEWTS. Exceeds Expectations marks were earned in Transfiguration, Herbology and Ancient Runes for both exams. Defence Against the Dark Arts and Astronomy were her weaker subjects. Those she stopped after her OWL classes, though the witch could have continued the study of both, having earned an Acceptable on the OWLs.

After Hogwarts, Delilah immediately enrolled at Lufkin U. She studied Potionology and Spell Invention. She loved her time at Lufkin. The witch adored learning and being able to focus on what interested her. Her studies went swimmingly and by her fourth year at the university, she was offered an internship with St. Mungo’s. The witch transitioned to a full-time role at the hospital smoothly upon completion of her degree.

Work quickly began a huge part of her life. She has seen more and more of her friends get married, but she has not even had a serious relationship. The witch just has not found anyone worth putting before her work. She goes out. She dates, but no one really holds her attention. Or hasn’t yet!

She was devastated when she lost her magic. She descended into a terrible, all-consuming depression. She did not do anything for months, save drink and shag. That was until her best friend came along and kicked her arse a bit. It was just what she needed...and now she is living with Ella and Elliott--throwing herself into study and research to find a way to get her magic back.

family history
The Wenlock family is a self-made family. Back in the late 1800's Alexander Wenlock noticed that there was a need for a company that invested in purchasing muggle homes and renovating them to suit the needs of the wizards. So the company was born, then, and was passed on from family member to family member, generally immediate. Jeffrey and Rachel Wenlock are Delilah’s maternal grandparents. Rachel bore two children for her husband: Gregory and Odelia. Gregory is running the family business, while Odelia is now head of a primary school.

The Graves family has long established wealth. None in the family ever went without or struggled, but were spoiled growing up. Still, the family instilled the value of hard work, influence, and social power. Archibald and Penelope Graves are Delilah’s paternal grandparents. Penelope bore three children for her husband: Beckett, Langdon, and Octavia. Beckett went on to be incredibly successful. Langdon did the same. Octavia, though, died while still very young.

The Graves men were all followers of the Dark Lord. Archibald’s life was lost at the Battle of Hogwarts. Delilah has always suspected her uncle and father to be allied with the Death Eaters. Her father cultivated a fair bit of anti-muggle sentiments in his child. It was never difficult to do so considering how destructive the non-magical are to the planet.

Delilah had been steadily spiraling since the beginning of September. She had fallen ill and had steadily lost all direction and self worth. Most who had fallen ill with the mysterious epidemic X had been released from the hospital about a month after their admissions date. She was kept at St. Mungo’s well into October. It was not physical ailment that kept her there for so much longer than the others. It was not that she was ‘Patient Zero’. It was that she had something akin to a mental breakdown--had been deemed a danger to herself and others. Who knew why they had eventually let her go...she had spiraled terribly after leaving the hospital.

Either drowning in drink or self-pity, she only left her bed to go to a pub or to go home with someone else. The Graves woman had bedded more people in last month than she had in the last five years. It was all meaningless. It did nothing to ease her suffering. It did nothing to bring her back to herself. It passed time--and that was all she could manage to do anymore. Just pass time.

Because what else was there?

She had no significant other. She had no children. She had focused everything on her career. Brewing and creating potions--curing and healing others through her mastery of that exquisite art--that had been all that mattered to her. She thrived in it. Sixty---seventy hours a week she had spent at the hospital.

And for what?

What did she have to show now?

Nothing.

She hated herself for being so miserable over the loss of her career when her best friend had lost something even more precious. Ella had lost her child. Fever had taken the baby’s life. Delilah could not even be there for her friend. She could see past her own pain. She could not center herself. She could only wallow and mope and drink and shag. It was all meaningless.

Delilah could not bear to talk to her mother either. She was so angry at Odelia for still having her magic. That anger carried over in respect to Olivia, too. Why? Why did they get to keep their magic? Olivia did not need it. She had bloody desk job as one the Minister's little yes-men. And Odelia was at the school. She did not truly need magic either. Both of them could have easily kept going with their lives without it. But Delilah couldn’t. She was ruined--and she hated them for escaping this sickness.

Fuck her aunt and her mother.

Seeing Olivia today, it only made her more acutely aware of how much she resented the woman for still being capable of spellcasting. She was supposed to be here to meet the newest Graves, but what did it matter? She really didn’t care. She was too self-absorbed to think about others or family. Her misery blinded her to the rest of the world.
