Yet I still recall as I wander on
As clear as the sun in the summer sky
Outfit@isolde
Work was almost either a hit or a miss when it came to whether or not Hank enjoyed the day. He didn’t often get to pick his cases or his clients, but he tended to lean towards those that were more important to him. He knew that it was probably a little unethical of him, but he knew what clients he could win with and what he couldn’t. He knew how to make things work to his advantage though when he couldn't win. He knew the words to say, the looks to make.  It worked on almost all of his opponents and occasionally the clerks there in the Ministry. He was quite pleased with the results most of the time, but some people took time to wear down. Isolde was the one person that he had not been able wear down just yet, but he knew how to get under her skin. He had started flirting with her, mainly because the leggy blonde was a tree that he would love to climb, even if he was never stupid enough to say such a thing out loud.

She was smart, beautiful and now she worked for the Minister. She had even more behind her making her attractive. He had a case that was being tried against her the next day and he figured it was a good chance to try and get to know her, not to mention get information about the case as well. It was a little under handed, yes. But he had a nearly flawless record and he wanted to keep it that way, losing was never an option for him. He really just refused to take the knee and concede a loss.

He was waiting outside of the courtroom that she was in, leaning on a wall and looking over the file in his hands. He knew that being obvious was most often better than to try and hide it.

So many people have come and gone
Their faces fade as the years go by
The pre-trial had gone horribly. It would have been one thing if her client had actually voiced what they had spoke about on the stand….Instead, Patricia Mayfield had told some long-winded story about how she never even owned the land in the first place and that it was her ‘birthright’ to take it back from her son who had legally purchased it in the auction a few years back.

Merlin’s Beard, she was going to have to ask her secretary to do a more in-depth screening of her clients. Patricia was…unfortunate. And mistakes like these were the sorts of things that put a blemish on the whole practice.

“Sorry, Miss Macmillan,” Patricia said sheepishly. The old woman’s hands shook slightly as she reached out for Isolde’s. “I just…couldn’t take the house away from my boy. Not after everything. I see that now.”

Now that she understood. Putting children above everything else. It was the sort of thing that she would do for Izzy, no questions asked. “It’s alright, Mrs. Mayfield, quite alright. I understand.” Isolde gave the woman’s hands a gentle squeeze before they both let go, coming to a new understanding.

The world was never black and white — even when it came to the law. As much as Isolde wanted it to be easy to make decisions and pass judgements on others, she knew that there were always other factors that played into the game — that played into life, even. It was part of the reason she was so enjoying her time as Advisor to the Minister. Andromeda had given her a chance to speak her opinions, voice her reasons, and offer an counterbalance to many of the other advisors that were on her team. Isolde actually felt like she was making a difference offering council to the government…but nothing could replace the feeling of winning in the court of law.

Taking a few steps out of the courtroom, she picked up her phone and held it to her hear, listening to a voicemail from Izzy about some boy. Isolde just smiled as she listened, her eyes wandering aimlessly, until they reached a man that was perched outside of the courtroom, apparently watching her.

The strawberry blonde withdrew her phone from her ear and hung up at the end of the message, raising one eyebrow at the man. “Is there something I can help you with?” She inquired.

More than a Feeling
AS CLEAR AS THE SUN IN THE SUMMER SKY
- @isolde -
It wasn’t hard to get under the skin of most people if you knew the words to say and the things to do. It wasn’t a hard thing when one thought about it, even if the work was needed for some people, all you had to do was pay attention. When they put in a little more effort than normal, when they looked a little sadder than normal. All it took was a little bit of a smile, a little bit of a smirk to make it all better, a small compliment, a small touch on the small of their back or on the back of their arm and so many of them were putty in his hands. Of course he didn’t always do it for his own purposes. Sometimes he just like to make their day better, and it made him smile to see them happier when the conversation ended.

He knew that he was sweeter than he pretended to be. He knew that he liked to pretend that he was a bad ass but a softy inside. Of course, it was kind of hard to be a bad ass when most people were taller than he was. He didn’t mind it though, years of being teased in school for being shorter than most of the girls that he liked. Its why they invented lifts, and when worn the right way, no one was the wiser. He refused to lose his cases, he refused to have his record tarnished and he did everything that he could to keep it from happening a second time.

Isolde was his target, he was going to try and find out anything that he could about the case. About her client and the secrets that they held and he knew how to do it. Taking her out at the knees would be easy, but he knew what he wanted to do, he would get under her skin for more than this and he was going to make her love him. He was so excited, and landing Isolde Cavanaugh as his Partner, well that was the dream. Was he going about this the wrong way, probably, but either way he was going to have fun.

”We’re facing each other tomorrow, and I thought that we might discuss the case and maybe try and find an agreement before then. “ He pushed away from the wall and stepped to her. ”Maybe, over dinner?” He was known for trying to befriend his opponents. In his history it made them less vicious but it also made things harder if it didn’t go well.

more than
a feeling

Isolde wasn’t used to have fanboys waiting on her outside of the courtroom. In fact, it made her rather uncomfortable. People were generally too scared of her — being a high-paid lawyer, Assistant Dean, and Adviser to the Minister of Magic — to approach her much at all. But this man, whoever he was, had apparently been waiting for her. His explanation made sense, though it took her a few minutes to locate the case that she was starting tomorrow.

Ah, the Keats divorce.

“So you must be Hank Davis, Mr. Keates’ lawyer,” Isolde said, it finally dawning on her. She raised one of her eyebrows. He was more handsome than she imagined. Then again, she usually pictured every lawyer as older as Atticus Cavanaugh had been. Still, she didn’t want this man to distract her from what was at hand. The case they had tomorrow was a serious divorce. And, while her client was slated to win, things could be overturned if certain information came to light. Like the affair, her client had been having for the last even years. That was the reason she’d been avoiding settlement meetings with Mr. Davis. Isolde didn’t want to get involved in a conversation about her clients…moral ambiguity. To be fair, this wasn’t an unusual thing for Isolde. She usually didn’t like settlement meetings, especially before the first day of court. They put her on edge. If they were going to have a settlement, she much preferred it to be weeks out when she had time to prepare an offer.

Though her client had mentioned she would prefer if they put this all to bed before court if she could. Claire Keates had a reputation to uphold, she told Isolde, one that she would rather not risk by going to court. So here Isolde sat, between a rock and a hard place. She didn’t particularly want to have dinner with Hank; however, she knew that if her client ever learned that she had forgone the opportunity, there would be hell to pay.

There was something about his smile — maybe she took it for sincerity. Perhaps he really did want to come to an agreement. She tried to ignore the little pitter patter in her heart — she didn’t need to complicate this with feelings, she reminded herself.
“I didn’t know you were American,” Isolde said breezing past him before realizing that she didn’t give him an answer to his inquiry. She paused, turning back around to face him. “Are we going to dinner or not, Mr. Davis? I haven’t got all day.” Though her words were harsh, the small smile at the corner of her lips told a different story.

He had noticed a lot over the last few months about the way that she held herself, the words were that she had been single for a long time. That she preferred it that way, that she had been a single mother since her daughter was born, save for her brief marriage. It was interesting because she was absolutely beautiful, and smart. She had a lot more going for her than just being a lawyer. Not that being one was a bad thing when he himself too shared the profession but it was a little confusing to him as to what the defect could be.

Maybe she’s a herridian. He thought for a moment, her bossy, short words and tone definitely betrayed that to him already, but he was not one to back away from a challenge and getting to know the leggy blonde was something he did want to do. He gave her a small mock bow and winked at her before standing up to his full height. ”I am indeed.”

Grinning he caught up with her easily and nodded his head. ”Yes, I grew up around Seattle. The, uhm, West Coast.” He could have skipped when she said that she would go to dinner with him and staying a few steps behind her he jumped and clicked his heels together before catching her up and smiling. ”I know a great place, it’s pretty quiet. “
