mean to me
then I'd be what you...
When he had heard about this family vacation he hadn't quite known if he was going to be invited or not. It wasn't just a vacation, not like the ones that she had told him about. Family vacations to the beach in the summer were something that her family did every year, sometimes multiple times a summer, but this was different. This wasn't just a vacation. This was a wedding. Her mother's wedding. And Liam hadn't known if he was going to get an invitation to such an event or not. He supposed that he shouldn't have really worried about that though. Coming had never really not been an option for him, and he thought that her mother and stepfather, now, almost, understood that. He was protective of her, and he had to believe that Malcolm, at least, would understand that. Understand why, if she was traveling half a world away, he wanted to come with her. No one had questioned it though, and so here they were.

They had come down early, they were making sure that things were okay on the island that her parents owned, and then they were settling here, an island, not far away, where they were all going to be staying for the next couple of days. The week, they were staying the week, and he thought that that was probably going to be something that they were all going to catch some flack for. They didn't all just have jobs that they could leave for a week without warning, but he was pretty sure that everyone that was going to be here had had plenty of warning, and it wasn't like they couldn't go back, if they really needed to. There was just some reason that he wasn't privy to that they were all here now. Some reason that he thought that they had just wanted them to all stick around in the southern hemisphere. And he knew that it was winter down here, but it wasn't exactly cold... It never seemed to be cold, and there was enough magic on these islands, to hold them over.

Liam thought that Constance was around here somewhere, but they had gotten a room to themselves, a second surprise of the trip, and they had only been here a few hours so far. He had worked all day, not wanting to take any more time than necessary off, and then they had come here. Whether or not things had been perfect, he didn't know. He had left that up to his girlfriend. He was sure that when she had told her mum that they were coming early she had been sent with a list of things to do. It was only family invited to the wedding, and he thought that he had heard in passing that it wasn't even going ot be the entire family, whatever that meant. But he thought that things on Anicka and Malcolm's island had looked good enough. He was well aware that his levels of judging what was going to be perfect for this wedding probably weren't on par with where Constance's would be, but he thought that it had looked good enough.

They had just done the whole wedding thing, though he could admit that it hadn't been this level of extravagant. There had been more people, it was easier to just blend into the background at his uncle's wedding, but that wasn't an option here, and he wanted this to go right. He had his own reasons for wanting this week to be perfect, but he thought that if he could just get through this, then he could spend the rest of the summer trying to figure out the perfect time to ask her if they could do this too... He had decided that he was going to. Ask her, anyway. It was just a matter of finding a ring, and trying to decide which of her sister's would be the biggest help with that. He thought that he might end up asking Ella, but at the same time he thought that asking her best friend might be a little less reserved than her sister. He hadn't quite decided yet, but either way, he'd figure out which one of them to talk to soon.

There was also the matter of asking for permission. English tradition said that he needed to ask Philip, as head of her family here, but something gave him the impression that it wouldn't be Philip making that decision at all. It would be her mother, and he would have to ask Anicka for permission. Liam thought a ring needed to be had first though, and this week was not going to be about them getting engaged. It was going to be about another wedding all together, and then a relaxing week away. Or as relaxing as a week could get, when they were all together on this island. Heading into one of the rooms that he hadn't been in in the house yet he chuckled when he saw what was inside, "CON!" He didn't know where she was in the house, but they were the only two people on the entire island, he thought that she would hear him.

Obviously, Constance had not originally thought that her matka getting married again would bring them to an island in Mauritius. She hadn’t known how it was going to be. She had thought that maybe it would be small--that had seemed likely enough anyway, but she hadn’t thought that they would be traveling halfway across the world for it. But she had to admit, she wasn’t complaining. There was just something special about everyone that they cared about coming down here and being able to celebrate a wedding while also getting away from absolutely everything else for a little while. Not that things were bad at home or anything like that. She had gotten to the point where she thought that maybe it had been for the best, everything that had happened at the Ministry. Her strýc didn’t have to worry about the fates of four countries, and they didn’t have to worry about being targeted by people that wanted to take that power from him. They definitely had less to worry about and she had been able to focus on ballet--and also on school. It had worked out well just because she’d been able to schedule her classes around when she had to be at Avalon.

It was even simpler during the summer since she had decided not to take summer classes. She knew that she could do what Ella did and try to get ahead like that, but in light of who was going to be in her classes come autumn, Constance didn’t want it to look like she was trying to get away with him. Even that was putting in too much effort. She thought that it would be much better to just act like he didn’t exist at all… and that meant not putting herself through summer courses just to avoid him next term. She had wanted a little bit of time off and she wasn’t going to change that plan. And it did make it just the slightest bit easier to get away for the wedding since she didn’t have to figure out how to miss classes and ballet. Not that she liked missing even just ballet, but that was just a necessity in this case. It wasn’t every day that one’s matka got married and whisked them all away to a different continent. The extended vacation bit came from her matka being worried, and she knew that. Constance didn’t think that she would be able to relax being so far away from all of them and worrying that something bad was going to happen.

Constance didn’t actually think that anything bad would have happened, but she supposed that it was better to be safe than sorry, and she didn’t mind a bit of a vacation. To the point that she had even offered to come down early to make sure that everything looked all right. Someone had to make sure that everything was up to her matka’s standards and who better to do that than her? She had also thought that it was just a good time to employ the advice that she had been given about Liam. The fact that her matka had given her the advice at all had been as good as telling her that it was okay and she thought that having an island to themselves was probably the best time to give it a shot. It would be a lot better than waiting until her entire family was there too, in her opinion anyway. Constance had decided that she wasn’t going to overly plan it out or anything like that. But if it happened, it happened… and the inner romantic in her thought that it was a pretty beautiful place for it to happen. If it did.

That wasn’t on her mind just yet, though. They had only gotten there a few hours before and most of that time had been spent making sure that everything looked all right. Her matka and Malcolm had one island, and the rest of the family would be staying on a second one. There was more than one residence to actually stay at, thankfully. Cramming nearly two dozen people into one house would be asking for trouble, but so far it looked like everything looked all right. It seemed like the houses had what they needed for people to stay there comfortably. She wanted to check on her matka’s island too to make sure that everything was good there too, but they had a little bit of time before they had to worry about that. She’d just been heading down a hallway to look for Liam when she heard his voice and realized that he had to be close by. “What?!” She asked, once she made it into the doorway.

Mean to

Me

Liam hadn’t really expected to be invited on this little trip. It was a family vacation, and a very small wedding all rolled into one, and he hadn’t known if he was going to merit an invitation. But then he had realized that not only was he going, he and Constance were coming down her early. That was surprising, but he supposed that he understood it, in a way. He got that someone needed to come down here and make sure that everything was ready to go, and this place was far enough away that Anička and Malcolm weren’t about to send her down here by herself. He didn’t think that, even if he hadn’t been invited, anyone would have stopped him from coming. He had every intention of marrying into this family someday, they just weren’t there yet. They would get there, he was sure of it. He thought that by this time next year, she could very well be Constance Flint. But they would get there in the end, and he thought that that was all that really mattered most.

It wasn’t like he wasn’t planning on being a member of this family. He was planning on it. And he was planning on Constance becoming a member of his. But they would get there. They would get there in some fashion that he thought probably wouldn’t be an island get away. It would probably involve something a little closer to home. But he thought that they would worry about all of that later. The details that came along with marrying a princess. Elliot had done it, he thought that Constance had said that her sister had gotten married in the backyard. So, they weren’t forcing big, elaborate occasions on everyone, but he could see why this one would have been. Marrying a Nott. That was an old pure name. That was a strong pure name. And he thought that he could give Constance that too. Flints had been pure for generations, and that wasn’t about to change now.

That wasn’t the deciding factor in his choice, but he had thought that it had helped. His parents liked her, their mums were friends. But Liam thought that he would have liked her anyway. There was just something about Constance that he thought that he liked more than he had ever really liked another person before. And he knew that he sounded like a cliché, but he couldn’t help it. There was a reason that clichés were clichés after all. It was because they were true. He had wandered off on his own, she was checking something, and he thought that it was probably all fine, but letting her walk around and check was easier than trying to convince her that everything was fine without checking. He knew that she wanted this to be good for all of them, and he thought that he could get behind that. He thought that he could understand wanting everything to be perfect.

His mum had sent a gift for her mum and Malcolm, and he had left it on the other island when they had been over there earlier. But as far as Liam could tell, everything here looked like it was set. Things were going to be perfect. They were getting married on Sunday. The first of July. That would be easy enough to remember. And as far as he could tell, they all liked Malcolm. He liked Malcolm, even though he knew that his opinions about that didn’t really matter. He did though, he liked the older man, and he wanted him to like him too. He thought that that was almost as important as Anička and Philip liking him. Liam wasn’t going to push about it though. He just thought that he would get along better forever, if her stepdad liked him. Yelling out for his girlfriend, Liam waited for her show up in the doorway, and then he nodded to the table in the middle of the room. “There’s a pool table…”
