She'd visited Ophelia often enough when she'd gotten sick, usually after visiting Gael, her parents, spouses, brother and both sister-in-laws, grandparents and most of her cousins. The Ollivander clan had been hit quite hard, and of them all, it was only Galenia herself, Gervasio, Gandolf and Gerhardina who had been spared.  She'd laughed at the joke that people didn't know there was more than one Ollivander until they met the family, and there were then too many to count, because she'd always considered them a rather moderately sized family. They were close, that was it.

But in the twisting turning weeks since they'd started getting sick, with each new sick Ollivander, it began sinking in exactly how many they were, and it was feeling enormous. It was eighteen sick relatives on her father's side, fifteen on her mother's. They'd lasted better on that side, it seemed. But better was not really better-- still in the hospital beds at the placed they'd imprisoned children. Once they'd gotten out, person by draining person, they'd had a large discussion. Whatever level of magic someone had wouldn't prevent them from anything. After all, you didn't need magic to run a shop, to help people. Besides, they'd set a good example for Gianna, in case she ended up without magic as well.

It had been a struggle, they three adults trying to care for twelve children. They'd roped in the Álvarezes, and got to know each other even better. Galenia didn't regret that with everyone out, there was less chaos, but she did miss everyone. She made her way down the stairs, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. "Ophelia?" her voice was sleep-hoarse. "I've been ordered to go out and hike. You're good with the shop, right?"

Coming out of Pyxis had made Ophelia happier but only for a short time. She had lost her magic and she felt very useless. She could no longer do any magic and that was going to prove useless when creating wands. The most she could do now was to work on theory of wands. However, that was of no use when it came to working at Ollivanders. At least there would be less demand on her now to assign wands for new students given that the new school year was well underway.

The best Ophelia could hope for was a quick cure when it came to this illness. The witch was still able to shape wands using her tools but she could do nothing more. While she did enjoy doing that as well as creating intricate patterns and notches on them, she was still going to favour actually apply magic to a wand. There was something special about doing that and something that made her proud as a wandmaker.

The fact that she was probably the laughing stock of wandmakers everywhere was not lost on her but she kept her focus and tried not to think about that. She knew Killian would not want her to get distracted and to get herself down. Her like was wandlore and creating wands and she was not about to let that down.

The Ollivander family had been good to Ophelia for many years and she appreciated all that they did for her. She just felt at a loss now that she was without her magic. The family itself had not gone without losing their magic. So many people had been affected by this, it was very upsetting overall.

She was just downstairs today tidying up with a duster today. She couldn’t even clean let along do her job but she was keeping her head up. Ophelia’s head turned in the direction of Galenia as she spoke to her. ”Of course Galenia, it’s very quiet around her as it is anyway” she smiled and nodded.

[attr="class","title-ollivander"]Oh, Ophelia
[attr="class","subtitle-ollivander"] You've been on my mind, girl, since the Flood
[attr="class","wordz-ollivander"]"Good, good." Galenia forced another smile; it wobbled. When was the last time she'd slept? She couldn't quite remember.

They organized their wands, they did, but. . .

Much of the last few weeks had been testing the wands in the shop, seeing to it that all had worked, finding the bills of sale and consolidating them. The earliest reports said the sickness started in August, and while bookkeeping was an art perfected in the shop, Galenia had always wanted to double-check to make sure all wands sold since the beginning of July had not been made all-too-recently. If one bill of sale was, say, great-great grandfather Gervaise's six hundredth and seventy-eighth wand sold, a fourteen inch willowy beauty of ebony and unicorn heartstring, carved with runes, she wanted to make sure no other wand that had been made in the last four months matched that description.

It was headaching work, and yet it was necessary. Ollivanders had a reputation, and it was in her hands. She had the reputations of her ancestors, and her own as well. She'd been experimenting with mangrove recently, with manzanita and various annona and palm, with new cores, and the sickness had tossed her spinning. Once again, she had to put off what was not necessary, leaving her notes marked for her descendants. but the testing and visiting would be complete soon, surely. Just one more week.

"You know Adrienne, she'd psychoanalyze me until I agree to anything." Galenia frowned in thought. Speaking of journals, though. . .

"I'm quite sure I remember some Steward journals about wandmaking without magic. Would you like me to order them for you? You remember James Steward, of course."
Her grandmother was of the Calderon-Boot family, and she'd shown the journals to Galenia often as a child. Galenia had been fascinated, reminded that the Ollivanders were not the only wandmaking greats. There were the Paquets to remember, the Kims. Galenia had been sent out to study under Kim Iseul for that reason, after all.

Working in a wand shop without her magic was terribly frustrating. It was her magic that enabled her to do what she did. Sure there was a lot of study behind it but her most useful ability being her wandmaker was her magic. It allowed her to bring wand cores and woods together to create something beautiful for a wizard or witch to use. The best she could do now was to sell the wands that had previously manufactured. While sales were important to as they brought in revenue for the shop and therefore paid her salary, she would rather be crafting wands. Galenia knew this and it probably showed on Ophelia’s face each day when she arrived for work. She didn’t want to give the impression she was fed up by being here without being able to make an actual wand because she wasn’t.

Ophelia could still read over the books as she waited for a customer to come in, but it wasn’t the same as putting that knowledge into practice. She would just make the best of it. She loved being surrounded by wands. Some the ones they had on the shelves still were those crafted by Garrick Ollivanders himself but she could tell hers apart from hers. Each wandmaker had their own signature as did any painter on any painting their created.

She looked over to the older woman and smiled. She was so lucky that Galenia had taken her in when she had shown an interest in wands and their creation. That was not to discount all the mentoring that Garrick had done with her. Of course, now the shop’s success was up to them. She made sure to still craft a superior product for their customers, after all their reputation depended on it.
”Well, don’t let her psychoanalyse you too much, she may have too much fun” she smiled. Ophelia had meant for that be a joke but she had seen the frown appear on Galenia’s face so she hoped she took it as so.

”Yes, I know, a greater writer” Well, she had heard of his journals, she had never read one though. But now would be her chance. ”Could you please order them in, i would be most grateful” Really, assistance she could get when it came to her work while she was sans magic would be very welcome.
