[attr="class","textbodraven"]Exams were picking up once again and Maya was feeling the heat. Fourth year was coming at her fast and Maya just wanted to keep up. She needed to beat last year's marks, she needed to work harder at her ballet lessons, she needed to do it all. Because that was in her blood--right? Going above and beyond, being the best of the best. Her father was like that. He had gone to a great law school and he was a fantastic lawyer. And a fantastic father. Even Mac did that, although Maya's incredibly intense mother was not quite as good at being a parent as her father was. Still, she worked hard. She was the best in her business, and she had even been a pop star once upon a time. Maya would be lying if she said she didn't look up to Mac. Yes, they did have a strained relationship--that much was obvious by Maya's insistence on calling her Mac instead of Mum--but she loved her. Maya knew that she tried, anyways, and that did count for something. Maya was going to try and accept that it counted, anyways.
Maybe three electives was too much. On top of ballet and band, she really did have a lot on her plate. But there was no going back now and Maya Poole did not fail, so she would get a hang of this. At least she didn't have to worry too much about Astronomy and Arithmancy. Those were practically her best classes, and History of Magic was going quite well, too. But Potions... that would prove to be a disaster, if she didn't buckle down and get it together. It had never really been her subject, always giving her a bit of a headache. Maya was determined to drop the course once she started NEWT-levels... but until then, she had exams. And then OWLs next year, so for now, Maya had to find a way to endure Potions. Which meant countless hours of studying had to be put into this. And her last attempt at pulling an all-nighter had resulted in Maya narrowly missing her time slot and chatting with The Grey Lady past curfew.
For today, though, Maya was trying out the theory of a support network. Studying with people was supposed to help somehow--right? So she had set up at a table in the library with one of her year and house mates, Donald, in the hopes that it would help her out a little. Or a lot, anyways. A lot was what she was hooping for. Anyways, they had been at it for a couple of hours now, and the evening was slowly coming to a close. Maya glanced up from her work for a moment and looked over at her classmate. "How's studying coming along for you?" she asked curiously.
