Appearance and Personality
General Appearance: Donald is a pale skinned white boy that is average height for a 13 year old boy from the Welsh valleys.

He is slim built for his age and does look fairly weak. He is also under-developed for a 13 year old. He has dark hazel brown eyes and a mischievous grin that doesn't really reflect his personality. He has light brown to blonde hair of medium length which he gels up to be spiky.

When he is not in his uniform he likes to wear plain clothes. Usually a red polo shirt in the summer and jeans, or a black pullover in the winter with jeans and if it is very cold a red jumper. Don always wears black shoes regardless of if he is in uniform or in his ordinary clothes.When not in a school uniform, he likes to wear smart, casual clothes, such as polo-shirts, rugby shirts, trouser, or sometimes jeans, shoes.

Although most of the time, he would be wearing his uniform, even outside of class.

Character History:

Donald was born to Michael and Helen Westwood, in Merthyr Tydfil, in the south Wales valleys, working class community. He also had an older sister, Amy, whom is older than him by one year. He went to a muggle primary school as their parents believed they would be responsible enough to understand they cannot reveal that their father was a wizard and even if they did, the teachers would probably presume it was a silly childish fantasy. As it happened, neither revealed it. Incidentally Donald and Amy learnt from their early age that their dad was a wizard and were suitably impressed although it was quite by accident.

Donald first instance of magic was when he was 4. He was playing hide and sneak with his big sister and managed to get himself into a small space in the airing cupboard. However he became stuck and unable to move out of the space. After much screaming and crying he found he couldn’t move and his sister couldn’t get him out either. As his sister was bringing his parents up to try and release him

Donald somehow managed to cause the boiler to be crushed to one side and the door to the airing cupboard to be blown off it’s hinges. The parents explained it away to both their children and the plumber who came to fix the boiler as some kind of build up of pressure in the boiler causing it to implode and the shock from it forcing the door off its hinges. Donald didn't understand how this was possible but couldn't see how else it could be since he was unaware he was magical.

Donald was bullied in primary school many pupils viewed him as weak and somewhat pathetic. He was a pretty quiet boy during primary school which probably led him getting bullied somewhat. However he could always count on his sister and family to cheer him up when he needed it.

He was very upset when his sister went off to Hogwarts, when he was 10, and he was desperate to fellow her. When he was 11 he was happy to go to Hogwarts, with his sister, and hoped they would be in the same house.

Plots and Politics
What is your character’s stance on the recent takeover of the Ministry by Death Eaters? He is terrifed by the thought of the death eater take over and what that will mean now for the wizarding world. While he disagreed with the treatment of purebloods he fears that the death eaters will now use this to take revenge on everyone and restart the agenda of Voldermort and this seems to be coming to pass.

Where did your character stand in the treatment of Death Eaters and their families under the late Minister Durant's rule? Donnie disagreed with the treatment of death eaters and their families by both the previous Ministry and the current one. While he understood the need to help protect wizarding and, by extension, muggle Britain for the terrors of what the Death Eaters and Voldermort did in the past he believed that they should have had due process. That said, now they taken over, he has concerned about preferencial treatment for death eaters and pure bloods more widely

How was your character and their family affected by the reign and death of Voldemort? The Westwood family was worried about the rise of Voldemort but mostly kept their heads down during the reign. Before Voldermort took over Michael Westwood did quit his job at the Ministry as he feared they were being too complacent and instead went back to working for his father in their potions shop, where he previously worked as a fresh school-leaver from Hogwarts. The Westwoods decided that there was very little that they could do to fight the death eaters and were too afraid of what the consequences would be if they attempted to resist them. To his day Michael Westwood wished he did something to resist the evil that was going on around him.

The Jenkins family didn’t want to get involved in the war either. Helen Jenkins carried on her job working in a cafe as a waiteress and the rest of the Jenkins family carried on trying their best to ignore what was happening. They felt that it would be best to try and ignore the evil that was going on around them. They were in denial about the hateful deeds that their fellow wizards, including some of their former friends, could inflict on their fellow human beings.


The married Michael and Helen Westwood also put their plans of having a family on hold as they did not want to bring up children in such a world.

Family History:

Michael Westwood was a former Ravenclaw who was born in Caerphilly in the south Wales valleys and upon leaving Hogwarts he started working with his father in a potion shop, helping brew potions for clients. He enjoyed his job but knew that he can do so much more. He decided to move to London and got a job in the Ministry as a muggle liaison officer. He enjoyed his job and working with muggles. While in London he came across an old school friend, Helen Jenkins, a former Hufflepuff was a few years below him. She was also Welsh, born in Ynys Mon in north Wales. The pair met in a carfe were Michael was getting some food. Soon the duo started dating.


After a few years they married and moved to Merthyr Tydfil to start a family. They pair knew that they could easily commute to London using the floo network so they didn’t have to lose their jobs to do so. However this plan had to be put on hold as the raise of the dark lord put them off starting a family. They did not want to bring up children in such a dark place. It wasn’t until 5 years after the defeat of you know who that they decided it was safe to try and start again. They were too worried that Voldermort would return before that, as he had done before.

Just before the raise of Voldermort, Michael quit his job as he was frustrated with the Ministry and what he believed was its complacent attitude. That was the only protest he made however. He went back to working for his father in his potion shop, brewing potions for clients. Something he was still very good at. Despite being out of practice. He still works there to this day.

In 2003 the pair had a baby daughter, Amy, and they were delighted by her birth. Just over a year later they then had a baby son, Donald, and they were equally delighted by his birth. The Westwoods were dedicated to their children and, despite their working class background, they made sure that had the best childhood that they possibly could have.

They were extremely proud of Amy when she was accepted into Hogwarts and did their best to make sure Don didn’t miss her too much. They were equally proud when Donald got into Hogwarts.

Other: Donald is a very polite and kind boy, who is often accused of being overly polite and apologetic for his own good. He is also a very intelligent, although he doesn’t let it go to his head, or at least tries not too anyway. He is also a shy young boy. He can be very shy at times, and does have occasional doubts about himself and his ability, but he usually manages to get out of his shell most of the time. Although he is overall a good person, he can sometimes be immature, and his politeness and apologetic nature, can get on peoples’ nerves. The 13 year old really enjoys reading, and he can usually be found n the library reading a book, be it on a subject he is studying to swot up on, or because he is just interested in reading and learning on that subject. Indeed he does enjoy learning new things, and thinks the acquirement of knowledge is a worthwhile pursuit He is very good at History of Magic, and Astronomy, which also happens to be his favourite subject and is a good all rounder and has a natural talent that allows him to excel I almost all subjects. His weakest subject however is Transfiguration which he doesn’t quiet excels at. Donald Westwood also enjoys watching Quidditch, and playing it, his favourite team is the Caerphilly Catapults, whom he supports avidly, along with the national team of Wales. He also enjoys reading a good book, or just chatting with friends. Donny also enjoys Astrology and does it at times, as a hobby; he enjoys nothing more then looking at the night sky. He also loves his older sister (though don’t tell her that), and cares about her deeply, although he does wish he could be closer to her, and indeed, like all younger brothers, he does enjoy annoying her, after all, that is what little brothers are for. Donald is a natural born worrier, and does tend to worry about silly little thinks, and can, at times, get himself worked up over them. Despite this he is a good nature, kind and caring young lad, and does want to try his best by everyone, and hates to think that he might have let anyone down.

Roleplay Sample

Donald climbed out of the boat and slowly made his way towards Hogwarts. The 11 year old was very nervous and looking around at this fellow first years he could see that he was far from the only one. It had been a few months since he received his invitation or Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It didn’t come as much of a shock as his sister was already attending the school and his father also attended the school when he was a young boy. Although it was no guarantee that he would also attend the school...it was a pretty good indication that he would.

The Welsh boy had to admit that Hogwarts looked even more impressive then from what his father and sister had described and from what he had read in books about it. Entering the castle he wasn’t any less impressed, he grinned, the school looked magnificent a worthy place of learning. The 11 year old looked around in wonder as they were lead away to a separate room. He glanced over to the Great Hall, his sister was there already, he desperately hoped to get sorted into the same house as she was in.

They were lead to a room a little off the Great Hall, all the new students seemed in there, it was quiet crowded. He waited silently and patiently. The room was filled with nervous little children all talking in silent whispers about the sorting and how it will be done. He heard murmurs of tests to see skills. However Donald wasn’t worried at all about this he had already learnt from his sister about the sorting hat. The little boy didn’t say anything he felt that it would make him look like a big headed know it all.

Donald had read all about the houses of course and had asked his father and sister about them. From the sounds of things Ravenclaw sounded like the house for him. He was a very intelligent and witty boy for his age and he loved to learn new things, he found learning to be enjoyable. The house he least wanted to be in was Hufflepuff not that there was anything wrong with the Hufflepuff house but he would feel it made him a failure.

Someone beckoned them to form a queue and enter the Great Hall and Donald joint towards the back of the queue. Entering the Great Hall the young lad glanced over towards where his sister was sitting and she gave him an encouraging smile. He smiled back before returning his attention to the front of the hall, and to the sorting hat, nerves setting in again.

After the sorting hat had finished its song, the professor started calling out names, “GRYFINDOR” cried the hat for one boy, “HUFFLEPUFF” screamed the hat, Donald shifted uneasily in position in the queue, “SLYTHERIN” the hat said for a black haired girl. One by one the professor called up pupils and one by one they got sorted in the four houses.

“Donald Westwood” called the professor. The young boy moved from what little of the queue that was left and approached the sorting hat after another encouraging smile from his sister. He sat on the stool and placed the hat upon his head.

Please be Ravenclaw, please put me in Ravenclaw, please… the boy thought to himself in quiet a polite manner really. He sat nervous, he knew he had the intelligence to be in Ravenclaw, but would the hat. He hoped so, he really did.
