Hey there handsome
From A to Z

Adeline had seen Teddy a couple of times since being back in London...and the more time that she spent with him, the more she came to believe that her crush on the were was decidedly one sided. He did not flaunt ladies (or gentlemen) in front of her--or anything like that...It could have been her projecting insecurities, but it maybe, kind of, sort of seemed like he still saw her as someone young, instead of as a wixen adult (which she legally was! She was seventeen now--and had been for two whole months! Sure, saying it like that did not make her seem super mature or whatever, but let's not focus on that, mkay?!)

Still, he was supposed to introduce her properly to Zero today. She was excited to put a face to the name/letters. It had been so nice of the boy to write her. Most people would not have bothered. From their written exchanges, Adeline had come to think of him as a friend already. Though, she was a bit nervous that he was not going to actually like her when he got to know her. Sure, she loved Quidditch, flying and just having fun, in general--but she was, also, a touch bookish. Ad was Hermione's daughter, after all. Admittedly more like her father than her mother, the girl still enjoyed learning and had thrown herself fully into her studies at the School of Mum. It had really helped pass the time on that island.

Plus, she was pretty innocent for a girl of her age. Adeline had never been kissed. She had never gotten drunk. She had not gotten an opportunity to do the normal stuff teens would do. It wasn't as if there had been any parties to attend on Mermaid Isle. Would Z think she was lame? She couldn't worry about that for now. Teddy had told the other werewolf all about her already...which probably meant he thought of her as a kid anyway. Maybe that was why Teddy suggested they meet here...so she could have a pony ride. Her eyes rolled indignantly at that thought. It could have all been in her mind anyway about Teddy thinking of her as young. From an objective perspective, he had not actually said or done anything to imply this. All her thoughts on the matter had sprung from her own worries that he would think of her that way and really, really not wanting him to.

Adeline was not really sure where she was supposed to meet Teddy and Z here. The Knight Bus had dropped her off, but she did not see the Lupin anywhere around. Spotting someone, she approached, smiling as she asked: "Excuse me-- Hi. I'm sorry to bother, but I was looking for Teddy." Hopefully, nothing had come up...otherwise she was going to feel super awkward.

Hey There Delilah

[attr="class","reasonsmallzero"]Don't you worry about the distance I'm right there if you get lonely Give this song another listen Close your eyes

[attr="class","reasonbodzero"]Zero lifted another hay bale into the back of the pickup truck near the stables. Usually, he would use his wand to move things, but it wasn’t just wizards that came to Western Sky. They were open to the general public. At least, on all days save for the full moon. And a little hard work never hurt anyone, did it? After all, he’d spent years working on the Martin’s farm with no access to magic. He’d been underage – and a bit under experienced.

But a little bit of sweat on his brow didn’t perturb him.

In fact, the past few months had been, as a whole, untroublesome for Zero. Moving to England had been a completely different set of rules for him. No longer was he the lone wolf – despite what Lyra decided to call him for a nickname. He had a pack – he had friends.

Contessa’s pack was full of people that he could trust and, although it wasn’t in his nature to volunteer information to anyone just because, he felt that he could trust the members of the pack. It was strange, really. So strange that sometimes he wasn’t sure how to handle the situation. Zero had learned to be wary of the people he gave out information to. There was no telling if they would use it for good…or for something else. But this family that he had gained – this pack of werewolves that had taken him in when no one else would – they were something else entirely. For once in his life, he sort of felt like he had a family.

The sound of someone’s voice drew him out of his own thoughts and Zero turned as he’d finished putting the bale into the back of the truck. In front of him stood a girl, hair as wild as an untamed mare, but she was beautiful. Something about the way the sun seemed to bounce off of her eyes and back at him. Zero reached up and used the back of his sleeve to wipe some of the sweat from his brow; suddenly very self-conscious about the way that he looked.

“Lupin?” He asked, raising his eyebrows and momentarily pausing mid-swipe. “He’s not around.” In truth, Zero hadn’t seen him in a few weeks. Not since he’d agreed to bring Adeline Potter around so they could actually meet face to face.

And that was when it dawned on him – Teddy said that he was bringing A here today. Zero just had no idea that she was her…

She was beautiful. More so than he imagined when he was writing letters to her across countries. “Ah, er,” his self-consciousness was growing steadily and Zero was acutely aware that he looked like he’d been through the wringer. “You’re…not…” Merlin’s Beard, was he stuttering over his own words? “Sorry, are you…A?”

Hey there handsome
From A to Z

The Potter was going to be quite upset if Teddy had failed to show up today. He was supposed to be here. They had planned it all---she had even told her parents she was going to spend the afternoon with him. The first time they'd met up, she had just gone and begged forgiveness for the action later. But that was not really necessary when it came to Teddy. Her parents trusted him. He was part of the family in their eyes. Her being with him was as safe as her being with Liam or Viktor--though surely Viktor more so than the rest, since he was actually like old.

When the boy she had interrupted said he had not seen the werewolf in a few weeks,  Adeline's face fell. Surely, he hadn't forgotten her. Her mind flashed with a few unrealistic worries of what might have happened to him to make him not come here today. She pushed those fears down. It was surely nothing more than just him forgetting--or having something else come up.  He wasn't laying dead in a ditch somewhere. Andi hadn't captured him to try to force reconciliation between them. The woman might have changed, but she wasn't so dumb as to try something like that. That would never be the way to get Teddy to come back to her.

Adeline did not need to take out her disappointment on this stranger, though. She was just about to apologize again for bothering him and leave when he started to speak again. Well--sort of. The very cute stranger was stumbling over his words. She watched with hints of confusion on her face until he said her initial. The witch's eyes went wide. Was he Zero?! "Zero?" She asked, in surprise, instead of answering his question. "Yes. I mean, I'm Adeline."  This was surprising. The boy was so cute. Adeline had not really considered the possibility that he would be handsome when writing him. Merlin, what had she said in all those letters? Probably just talk about studying and maybe Quidditch. He had to think she was a complete nerd. She did love to  learn and read--that stuff was important... but having cute boys like you was important, too.  She blushed a bit at that thought. It was silly to think Zero would think she was attractive. He probably already had a girlfriend--not that he had mentioned one in his letters.

[attr="class","reasonbodzero"]He wasn’t sure what he had been expecting. Tall, pretty? Maybe. But not the sort of pretty that made him stumble over his words like a teenager. Yes, granted, Zero knew that he was a teenager, but he wasn’t that sort of teen. He was the sort that was able to form coherent sentences in the presence of the opposite sex. He was the sort of teenager that had had a job since he was a little kid. He was the sort of teenager that knew how to take care of himself. Not the sort of teenager that lost his cool all because a pretty girl was talking to him.

Merlin’s Beard, he really needed to get his act together. She probably thought that he was insane. Or worse yet, she probably thought that he’d been forging all the letters and the real Zero – the cool, pen pal Zero – was somewhere else on the Farm.

Zero.

“That’s me, Zero Bailey,” he answered before he even had a chance to stop himself. Before he could even deny that this bumbling idiot standing in front of her had been the one that was sending Chocolate Frogs and Crossword puzzles to her from a country away because he didn’t want her to get bored. Now that she had actually met him, though, she probably thought that he was just a stupid boy.

And in truth, he probably was. Zero had never had a girlfriend for more than a few days. He didn’t really know how to behave in situations such as these. In fact, he wasn’t good with most conversation. That was why it had been so great that they were writing to one another, instead of talking face-to-face. But now that she was here…Zero had turned into a puddle of mush.

A recovery would probably work, right? He could do this, he thought, brushing his hand against the leg of his pants. He could do this. “Yeah? Adaline?” he repeated, finding that the smile on his lips grew, despite the fact that he was nearly mortified with embarrassment.

Shouldn’t Teddy be here by now, he thought? Shouldn’t he show up on some white horse and sweep Adaline Potter off on a grand adventure? That was the sort of stuff that never happened to Zero. Because he wasn’t a fairytale prince…He was just…him. A werewolf with trust issues.

“Teddy told me you were coming. Well, he told me that he was bringing you but I…” Well, Ted certainly wasn’t around. That, or he was hiding, trying to see how much he could get Zero to stumble over his words. “…haven’t actually seen him.”

He wasn’t sure what to do then…Being the awkward person that he was, Zero stuck out his hand. Maybe they should shake. Would that make this any less awkward? Probably not. “It’s really nice to meet you. Actually meet you.”

Hey There
I'm right there if you get lonely
Give this song another listen, Close your eyes

Adaline was both embarrassed and annoyed that the Lupin was not here when he had said he would be. Teddy really was not the blow her off type, though. Surely, something had come up that could not be avoided--Surely, he had not just forgotten her... That wasn't him. He was a good guy. He was practically family--even if her feelings towards him were not particularly familial. She needed to just ignore all those pesky butterflies and attraction anyway. Nothing good could come from a crush on someone her brothers' referred to as a cousin. No matter that they were not blood relatives. She needed to stop getting stars in her eyes over him.

Especially since there was this really cute boy here in front of her now--with messy hair and wounded eyes. That had been so thoughtful in his letters despite not even knowing her outside of whatever Teddy had shared. Zero had been kind to her when the rest of the world had forgotten she even existed. But writing to him and standing her talking to him was different! She had been able to think over her words when they were pen pals. She could choose them carefully. If she didn't like something she had written, it could be vanished right away. Words spoken did not work like that.

She tried to keep her face neutral as Zero explained Teddy wasn't around. It hurt her feelings and made her feel a bit awkward to have to wade through this introduction without the buffer of someone who knew them both to make it easier. Zero extended his hand towards her and she slipped her own into this gently.

"It really is. It's nice to put a face to a name." Adaline  agreed, nodding her head as her hand lingered in his. Was the contact dragging on to long? Was she being weird? She knew how to have conversations with people--even if she had not done it outside the family in a couple years, she knew how. Right? She had not just forgotten how social interaction worked. Hopefully-- Reasoning her hand had probably been in the boy's longer than was reasonable, she withdrew her delicate fingers from his rougher ones. "Sorry if I am interrupting you, I mean you are clearly busy. I can call the Knight Bus back and go back home and send Teddy a nice howler." The last part fell off her lips as a joke, but she was quite tempted to do exactly that.
