Amy Lucy Westwood
14 - Female - Half-blood - 23 April 2003

Student

Appearance and Personality
General Appearance: She is ever so slightly overweight, but not by much. Amy has medium length black hair and brown eyes. She is about average height for a girl of her age. She has a healthy skin colour. Amy also seems to be somewhat physically fit, despite her being slightly overweight, it is apparent that she does at least try and keep a healthy body.

Amy likes to wear comfortable clothes, although not necessarily fashionable clothing. While in class she would be wearing her school uniform, she would tend to change out of it the first opportunity she would get.

Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Skills: Musical (especially with the flute), potion brewing, charms, reading, solving puzzles, riddles, thoughtful, patience (from dealing with her annoying little brother), quick learning,
Weaknesses: bad at flying, can be too stubborn for her own good, sometimes is too sure of herself and her knowledge to the point of arrogance, can be a bit quick to anger at times, can be a bit aloof and too serious which can put people off her.
Positive Personality Traits: Intelligent, clever, witty, thoughtful, decent, good listener, quick learner, mature, sensible, practical, good ear for music, cares for her little brother (just don’t let him know!), hates sexism and discrimination of any sort, knows her own mind and not afraid to trying to get her own way, inquisitive, willing to stand up for herself
Negative Personality Traits: Stubborn, bossy, serious, can appear to be cold, can be unforgiving, slightly arrogant at times, can be a bit sensitive about her weight, can be a bit hot-headed, hates being proven wrong especially by her little brother, can be a hypocrite, doesn’t suffer fools gladly, can sometimes come across as a bit of a bully
Hobbies and Interests: playing her flute, wizard chess, riddles and puzzles, music, reading, proving her brother wrong and generally getting one over on him, writting both short stories and in her diary
Character History:
Amy was born in the South Welsh mining village of Merthyr Tydfil, in a working class community. A year after she was born her younger brother, Donald, also came into the world. They had a pretty normal, muggle up-bringing with their parents feeling that they may not be able to cope with knowing their magical sides until they were responsible enough to understand it.

She went to a normal muggle primary school, where her talent for music was recognised and she got in the school band, playing the trumpet. Amy was also very protective of her little brother who seemed to be getting bullied by most of the children in the school and those who didn’t bully him didn’t really talk to him either. Amy hated seeing her brother suffer and made efforts to try and keep him company as much as possible but her female friends sometimes made that slightly awkward.

When Amy learnt that she was going to Hogwarts she was ecstatic and couldn’t wait to see how the wizarding world was like. Although she was slightly worried about how her brother would cope in his final year of primary school without her there to protect him and that she would miss her parents and little brother a lot...no matter how much Donald annoyed her.

During her first year at Hogwarts she ensured she kept frequent contact with her family, sending owls as often as possible. She was also thoughtful enough to know that Donnie would like to have his own personal letter from her, instead of one address to her entire family, so occasionally she did this to and enjoyed getting the replies back from her parents and little brother...even if he did manage to find a way to still be annoying by owl.

Plots and Politics
What is your character’s stance on the recent takeover of the Ministry by Death Eaters? She is scared for herself, her family and the wider wizarding community. She loathes dark magic and the corrupting influence it can have on people. Amy resents that she has to learn it in school now but is holding her tongue out of fear of retribution if she speaks out against it. Amy also worries about the oppression of anyone who is not a pureblood wizard or witch.

Where did your character stand in the treatment of Death Eaters and their families under the late Minister Durant's rule? Amy generally supported the measures by the authorities to protect the wizarding community from death eaters and dark magic. She only wishes that they went a bit further. Clearly had a bit too much leeway and this is what led to them overthrowing the Ministry. Although it might have been a bit discriminatory she believed it was for the greater good at the end but ultimately the tactic failed.

How was your character and their family affected by the reign and death of Voldemort? The Westwood family was worried about the rise of Voldemort but mostly kept their heads down during the reign. Before Voldermort took over Michael Westwood did quit his job at the Ministry as he feared they were being too complacent and instead went back to working for his father in their potions shop, where he previously worked as a fresh school-leaver from Hogwarts. The Westwoods decided that there was very little that they could do to fight the death eaters and were too afraid of what the consequences would be if they attempted to resist them. To his day Michael Westwood wished he did something to resist the evil that was going on around him.

The Jenkins family didn’t want to get involved in the war either. Helen Jenkins carried on her job working in a cafe as a waiteress and the rest of the Jenkins family carried on trying their best to ignore what was happening. They felt that it would be best to try and ignore the evil that was going on around them. They were in denial about the hateful deeds that their fellow wizards, including some of their former friends, could inflict on their fellow human beings.

The married Michael and Helen Westwood also put their plans of having a family on hold as they did not want to bring up children in such a world.

Family
Parents: Michael Westwood and Helen Westwood (nee Jenkins)
Siblings: Donald Leonardo Westwood (brother, 13)
Children: None
Partner: Nope
Other Relevant Family: 2 cousins, Dominic and Olivia Evans
Family History:
Michael Westwood was a former Ravenclaw who was born in Caerphilly in the south Wales valleys and upon leaving Hogwarts he started working with his father in a potion shop, helping brew potions for clients. He enjoyed his job but knew that he can do so much more. He decided to move to London and got a job in the Ministry as a muggle liaison officer. He enjoyed his job and working with muggles. While in London he came across an old school friend, Helen Jenkins, a former Hufflepuff was a few years below him. She was also Welsh, born in Ynys Mon in north Wales. The pair met in a carfe were Michael was getting some food. Soon the duo started dating.

After a few years they married and moved to Merthyr Tydfil to start a family. They pair knew that they could easily commute to London using the floo network so they didn’t have to lose their jobs to do so. However this plan had to be put on hold as the raise of the dark lord put them off starting a family. They did not want to bring up children in such a dark place. It wasn’t until 5 years after the defeat of you know who that they decided it was safe to try and start again. They were too worried that Voldermort would return before that, as he had done before.

Just before the raise of Voldermort, Michael quit his job as he was frustrated with the Ministry and what he believed was its complacent attitude. That was the only protest he made however. He went back to working for his father in his potion shop, brewing potions for clients. Something he was still very good at. Despite being out of practice. He still works there to this day.

In 2003 the pair had a baby daughter, Amy, and they were delighted by her birth. Just over a year later they then had a baby son, Donald, and they were equally delighted by his birth. The Westwoods were dedicated to their children and, despite their working class background, they made sure that had the best childhood that they possibly could have.

They were extremely proud of Amy when she was accepted into Hogwarts and did their best to make sure Don didn’t miss her too much. They were equally proud when Donald got into Hogwarts.

Other: While Amy can be a bit cold and aloof, she is generally a good and caring person who does want to do the right thing by others. She just sometimes doesn’t like to show her emotions. Amy has a very intelligent and wise head on her shoulders and can get a bit bossy at times too, because of a believe that she knows better. Amy can be very stubborn and somewhat determined to get her own way, or reluctant to apologise or accept apologises off other people. However, she would eventually concede if she is in the wrong. Amy also has a very serious side to her and tends not to be too jokey or mess around too much. That doesn’t mean that she doesn’t know how to have fun, nor that she doesn’t joke on occasions, however she knows when to end a joke. She is also a music lover, and enjoys both listening to music and creating music. Her favourite kind of music is soft jazz, although she does do band music and classical as well. Her favourite instrument is the flute that Donald got her for her tenth birthday and she carries this everywhere with her. Another one of Amy’s interests is reading, and solving puzzles. When she is not studying, or playing a musical instrument, she can be found reading a book of riddles or puzzles, trying to figure out the solution to the problem.
