Never Be Blue
making a joke or two

There were few places Adaline felt were safe to visit now that the Potters were back in the United Kingdom. She had spent so much time stuck on Mermaid Isle; it was amazing to be able to see some familiar faces. The Weasleys had been almost family. How many visits had she made to WWW? A hundred? A thousand? It didn't matter how many times, she always wanted to go back and always seemed to find something new and interesting on the shop's shelves. Addie had let Teddy know the family was back and suggested the pair meet up at the joke shop. She was early though. It would be a bit before the were showed up.

As the jingle of the door announced her arrival, the witch was grinning widely. It felt like an age since she had been here..and it had been. Addie had not been to Weasley's Wizard Wheezes in like two years. There were so many new products to check out. A quick glance around Addie did not spot anyome--and the witch took off the oversized sunglasses she had been wearing, obscuring most of her face. She had intended to say hi to George right away, but the girl got distracted by a particularly impressive display. There were so many things she needed to buy to use against Liam.

The witch wove her way through the store, trying to keep an eye out for either George or Teddy or any familiar face (friend or foe). She had not actually told either of her parents she was intending to see Teddy today. Harry had already set the example of begging forgiveness instead of asking permission by popping off to London without telling Hermione. She was just following Daddy's example. Plus, Ad was not taking too big of a risk. This was a safe space and no one had seen her in an age. It wasn't likely she would be recognized by any who did not know her well.

With the loss of her magic, Victoire felt pretty. . .

She didn't know how to describe it. Something forever out of reach, an unbalanced broom as she was either soaring or hurtling through the ground, a sense of unbalance that simply was wrong. The glitter she'd had from her mother hadn't left her, nor her ability to speak languages, but. . .

Flying. The air, the wind-- she didn't have that anymore, couldn't. She didn't know if that love from that was Veela or Weasley, but it had caught her fully. She was most comfortable in the air, and with the loss of magic, she could not do it. No, that wasn't fully the truth-- she still could, but not alone. She was reliant on her friends and family, and ever-thankful to them. Uncle George had said he'd take her flying today, and it was a time off she had from the hospital. The Harpies themselves, they. . .

They tried. Most of the team didn't have magic. There wasn't much they could do, so their practices usually consisted of studying diagrams and awful horrifying thing called suicides. They'd also had to temporarily adopt playing games on the ground, much like cricket. It was interesting, because none of them knew cricket, but they weren't truly playing it, just strange variations to keep up muscle memory.

Either way, they weren't there as much, which was good because the hospital needed her more, and she had to relearn. . .well, quite a lot of what she knew. She couldn't just reach for her wand or a potion but thankfully, she'd only had a little over a year to unlearn. In terms of real Healing that was, not in terms of magic in general. Or learning to use the lighted metal/not-metal things that gleamed silver or were clear as glass. Luckily, she wasn't expected to quite knows those yet, and would only be helping out other Healers.

But today was a few hours she'd had off, so it was a time she'd decided would be well-spent in WWW. There were, she knew, things she could use without magic. Quite a lot of pranks, just something to make herself feel better. She had enough in her pocket and the not-so-familial-discount would be there-- after all, she'd sometimes spent a few weeks working there when she'd had time. They'd updated the categorizing, she noticed. Roxanne's doing, probably, because that surely wasn't Teddy's. Roxanne was scary good with things like that, after all, a force of nature to be reckoned with. She really hoped all this was done with once Roxanne graduated, she knew the Harpies wanted her desperately.

The bell jangled; Victoire struggled to ignore it as the automatic smile popped on her face and she felt what little bit of Veela she had surge out. She didn't work here anymore for Merlin's sake. It wasn't going to be Teddy heading in, nor Uncle George or Uncle Ron. Maybe Aunt Angie, but could also be a customer, and she really didn't want to accidentally fall into that mode again. She focused on reading the instructions of the newer items, trying to make sure they could be used without magic. Done with one section, she stepped back to continue reading the next and accidentally knocked into the person she'd worked to steadfastly ignore.

"I am so sorry!" The apology burst out of her mouth at once, before she could even finish turning around. "Merlin's saggy left. . . "

She was making it up. She was hallucinating. This was an aftereffect of the sickness, hallucinating two months after. Because there was no way Adaline Potter would be back in Diagon Alley alone, even in one of the places known to be sympathetic. Older, to be sure, but Adaline and Dominique were fast friends, and she'd always liked the younger girl as well. "I-- Circe. . . " She couldn't bring herself to say the other girl's name, like how it would somehow summon Death Eaters. "Are you okay, is everything okay? Erm, er? Okayer?"

Never Be Blue
making a joke or two

It would be really good to see Teddy again. Adeline was really eager to be able to actually talk to him instead of just writing letters back and forth. Thank Merlin that Zero had been willing to be the go between for them. Being able to keep in touch despite the distance had been so valuable. Addie really believed it helped her stay more herself. She needed more social interaction than just talking with her brothers and parents--even if Deacon and Liam were great, the person she was with them was not exactly the same as the person she was with people outside the family...even if Teddy was only kind of outside the family, Adeline definitely did not think of him as a brother. Maybe she had once, but the way she thought about him the last few years was decidedly not brotherly.

She had no idea if any of the feelings she had were reciprocated. Probably not. It wasn't as if she was the only girl he saw outside of his blood relatives for almost two years. Sure, she had also seen Viktor in that time, but he was old...and married. He didn't count! Today, she would try to feel things out with Teddy and see just how he felt about her--if he felt anything at all beyond friendship. How she would do that was still not clear in her mind...but Addie thought she would just know.

It was not the werewolf's handsome face that she saw though as she moved through the shop. A blonde female bumped into her and as soon as Vee turned around, recognition fell over Adeline's face and she hugged the girl. Sure, Ad was closer to Dom than Victoire, but she was still just really happy to see a familiar friendly face.

Adeline laughed at Victoire's reaction to seeing her there. It was obvious the witch was surprised and the shock was just particularly funny to Addie in the moment. She nodded her head. "Yeah....I think so--I mean we are back; so that's a good thing. It is good to see you. How are you? Did you get that sickness?" Ad wasn't sure if it was rude to ask about that. It probably wasn't very polite since it pretty much equated to asking if someone was a squib. There was nothing wrong with being magicless, of course; but it would be really hard to transition, she thought, from being a witch to not. She had not actually spoken to anyone yet that been directly affected by the epidemic--since her letters while she had been away were to Teddy and Zero (both werewolves) and Viktor had not gotten sick himself. His wife had caught the illness, but Adeline had not actually seen Desirae since the Potters came back to London.
