Character History:
Oriana Hill is a halfblood, though her family has been magical for many generations, it was sprouted from a Muggle family at first. Her family was relatively involved in the Dark Arts, and her father and mother were both involved as Death Eaters during Voldemort’s first reign. It was because of that that they were in the circle of former Slytherins that all knew each other, so when she began Hogwarts in 1991, she already knew Draco Malfoy, Gregory Goyle, Vincent Crabbe, and a majority of the other Slytherins. Because of her charismatic and manipulative personality, she was able to make a lot of friends, but was also able to have a relatively uneventful time at Hogwarts, keeping her hands clean of most of the drama that the Slytherins made with Harry Potter and his fan club, even if she watched with amusement. When Snape took over the school after her sixth year, she didn’t particularly care, and for the most part was fine with the teachings of Alecto and Amycus Carrow, though she did not go out of her way to cause harm to people like her friends did.

Sometime before the final battle, Oriana had a one night stand with Gregory Goyle, causing Oriana to get pregnant with their daughter, to be born the month after Voldemort’s demise. She and Goyle married in 2000, though he was sentenced to several years of hard labor for his willingness to torture students and his attempts to kill Potter, Granger, and Weasley in the Room of Requirement. They remained married until 2010, after Cecilia’s first year of Hogwarts, where he left the family without much word about it. Oriana blamed herself for this, thinking that she pushed him away by not being good enough for him, causing her to realize the importance of being as perfect as possible for her next husband. It was nearing the end of the summer when Cecilia and Oriana were taking a trip to Norway that Oriana met Klaus Arnesen, a Norwegian pureblood. Oriana extended their trip in order to get to know him better, to the point that Cecilia had to return to England by herself to head back to Hogwarts. The pair married in the beginning of 2011. Klaus had a son in a previous marriage, though his wife died in childbirth, and Lars went to Beauxbatons. He moved to England after he had finished his schooling, and still lives in the family home.

Plots and Politics
Where does your character stand in the treatment of death eaters and their families? Oriana is strongly against the treatment of death eaters and their families. It had been embarrassing to be known as a death eater wife, receiving poor treatment as if she had a scarlet letter on her forehead. She had loved Gregory and it was difficult to watch his attitude change because of how he was being treated, eventually losing her first husband to the poor treatment that was given to him. She feels that the Ministry needs to be stopped with their actions immediately.

How was your character and their family affected by the reign and death of Voldemort? Because she went to Hogwarts with Harry Potter, she understood a lot of what was going on and how horrible his reign was. Oriana was thankful when Voldemort died, simply because she didn’t like the danger involved with him being alive. Oriana’s boyfriend at the time, Gregory Goyle, had been a follower of Voldemort, which had been especially difficult on their new family, as Oriana had been very pregnant at the time of his death with hers and Gregory’s daughter, Cecilia. She had to watch as her husband was punished for his crimes. The death of Voldemort seemed to have more of a negative impact on their family than his reign had.

Family History:
Shauna Greengrass was from a pureblood family, and knew Garrick through that simply because they ran in the same circles. Their parents had both agreed upon an arranged marriage right when the children were born. Shauna’s parents began to get worried when she had shown no sign of magic by the time she was almost ten. Luckily, she finally displayed signs of magic, much to everyone’s relief as they had been certain they would have needed to disown her for not being acceptable. Magic was highly valued in her family.

Their marriage was never anything more than an arrangement, and Garrick had numerous affairs on Shauna. Shauna explained these affairs away to Oriana, claiming that it was because she was not a good wife and her daughter was not a decent enough daughter. Oriana had ignored this at first, rolling her eyes at the concept. However, the more nights that her father was away, the more callous she became, caring only about figuring out a way to reach perfection, no matter how many people she had to walk over. Both of her parents dabbled in the Dark Arts, feeling that Muggles were unworthy of magic and was destroying the perfect world.

Garrick died at an early age, in mysterious circumstances. Shauna never remarried, and died a few years after Cecilia (daughter of Oriana and Gregory) was born.
