general appearance
Wardwell stands at 5'11", the tallest of his siblings. He's quite literally always wearing a signature smirk that nearly seems glued to his lips these days. Dark hair, tanned skin, and chocolate brown irises are courtesy of his parents that he doesn't care about because they're dead he never met. Ward is almost always smartly dressed and generally prefers black, but not for the same reasons that his siblings do. He just thinks that he looks best in black...or in nothing at all. He's a little narcissistic and cares deeply for his appearance, so you'll rarely see a hair out of place. He's conventionally attractive, undoubtedly. When he's feeling particularly thoughtful (which let's be real, isn't a lot of the time), his forehead wrinkles into thin lines.

skills
Ward's a schmoozer and knows how to attach himself to people's pressure points. He's incredible at bluffing and has one hell of a poker face. And lying - just straight up, no strings attached lying. Which makes him particularly good at conning people and, thanks to his siblings, they've got quite the operation going. He's good at magic - particularly the sort of magic that came out of New Orleans in the US. He's good at Voodoo magics and good at wandless, especially given how young he is. He's an excellent lay. Ward's good at sizing up the odds and making snap-second decisions.
weaknesses
He's big into his family - not his real one, of course, but his sisters. He'd do anything for them. He's got a weakness for pretty blondes and tequila. He's hard pressed to actually remember anything useful about his classes (he'd rather remember the phone number of a girl he met in a bar). Ward's a little selfish sometimes. He's also a little reckless. And he's probably not the smartest of the siblings. He has a really hard time making the smart decision. Aradia says he's impulsive, but most people would just call Ward dumb.

hobbies/interests
Spending time with his siblings + Gambling, all kinds though he's particularly fond of black jack + Sleeping with gorgeous men and women + Helping Aradia with research, though he generally just gets in the way + Placing bets on which sibling will get arrested first + And probably placing bets on who'll kill a guard to get them out + He's actually quite the cook + Following, rarely leading + Conning people out of a few bucks...or a few thousand, depending on the hustle + Drinking + The Occult + No-Maj music and records + Dark Magic + Casinos, frequenting them and hopefully owning one in the future + Executing Aradia's carefully laid plans + Having a lot of money and spending it on dumb things like diamond fidget spinners and clothes for his sisters...oh and leather +

character history
What happened before New Heritage doesn't matter. All Andrew Gradney knew was that when he arrived, he met Lenore and everything changed. Of course, they don't call themselves those names any longer, so they will henceforth be referred to like the names they chose for themselves: Ward and Aradia.

At five years old, Wardwell was the new kid at the orphanage - the one that everyone looked at like he was crazy...probably because the news of the death of his grandmother had followed after him like gossip in a trash magazine. But Aradia didn't care. In fact, she thought the strangely impulsive boy was the perfect addition to her little family. And so, a family they became. Ward had nothing before the orphanage and now, he at least had a friend.

He counted on Lenore for everything - her intelligence, her scheming, her subtle ways of getting what she wanted. Though things weren't pleasant at the hands of the New Heritage Orphanage employees, they somehow made it through together. Ward had never experienced love before...but for once in his life, he knew that he loved someone. He loved Aradia.

But things changed, as things often do. In Ward's life, up until that point, they most often changed for the worst, but a few years later, things changed for the better.

Pet joined their little band of merry men, after that. The perfect little addition to their family. While Ward encouraged his new siblings to always pursue the fun (and most often dangerous and impulsive) paths to action, Pet was quiet but felt like a missing puzzle piece. The natural order of things strengthened and so did the siblings.

The last and final piece of the puzzle was Dahlia. Bright, shining Dahlia. The girl who so desired to be free like the rest of them. And free she would become.

Their friendship - their siblingship - was the most important thing to Ward. He chose Horned Serpent because that was where Aradia had gone. And, while he wasn't exactly the sharpest blade in the knife block - he always seemed to protect his sisters when the time came. He was quick to action - quick to defend their honor to anyone that might try and spin a story about them. Silver-tongued, Ward could just as easily turn that story around and fire it back at the one who had started the rumor.

They were inseparable. Years went by, but their bond never wavered. And when they graduated and the possibility of separating was on the table, the siblings chose, instead, to strengthen their bond. Changing their names was simplistic in nature, but meaningful in so many ways. The Laveaus. They had always been family, to Ward, but now, the world would be able to see it.

Enrolling in Picquery straight out of Ilvermorny, the Laveaus each studied to their own interests. Ward chose Occultism, tapping into the strange culture of New Orleans that he had left behind at the young age of five. He was particularly adept at VooDoo magic and often found himself slinging dark spells around with his siblings.

Charismatic and charming, he had no trouble constantly getting what he wanted. After all, he's gorgeous. Skilled at card games and reading a room, Ward began running small con operations out of a local No-Maj casino when he wasn't in classes.

But it was always Aradia who led the show. Always Aradia who he looked up to and idolized. Because without the eldest, they would have been nothing.

When the siblings suggested moving across the pond to attend Locksley, Ward was...intrigued. Not overly interested in his education, he'll give it a shot for his siblings. Because they stick together. No matter what.

family history
Stella Miller was born to two No-Majs from Upstate New York. A quiet girl with a passion for books and reading, she was always quite the little researcher and experimenter. At age nine when she started catching her little chemistry sets on fire without any matches, her parents realized something was wrong. A few weeks later, they were visited by a MACUSA employee that revealed Stella's true nature: she was a witch. At age eleven, she went to Ilvermorny where she chose Thunderbird.

Jean Luc Gradney, a New Orleans native, was a Half-Blood wizard born into the wizarding world. In touch with his French heritage, Jean Luc always swore he would go to Beauxbatons, but when his eleventh birthday came around, he was forced to go to Ilvermorny. Slightly in shock, he didn't remember much about his first year as a Thunderbird student, except the kind and compassionate Stella Miller who ensured he didn't fail his classes.

Six years later, they were graduating and calling themselves a family at a small courthouse in the center of New Orleans. They paraded through the streets, Jean Luc in his navy suit and Stella in her flowing white lace gown. A few months later, they were expecting.

This story takes an unhappy turn here, I'm sorry to say. Andrew Gradney, son of Jean Luc and Stella, was born on September 6, 1996. Happy new parents are so often careless... aren't they? The first night they brought him home from the hospital, a sign decorated their door...a sign that announced they were the proud parents of a baby boy. But that sign was a beacon for darkness. A deranged mother who had lost her children in a fire had been watching them for weeks...waiting. She stole into their home that night and brutally murdered the Gradney family. All save Andrew.

She stole him and was later apprehended by the police. Andrew was relocated to Upstate New York to be with his No-Maj grandmother, Ethel. She raised him to age five, when her heart finally gave out in an unfortunate accident (some say it was the horror of her grandson breaking her favorite china plates with his rogue magic).

With no family left to claim him, Andrew was placed into the System at New Heritage Orphanage where he would meet his real family.
