And I don't need you,
And guess what,
I'm having more fun,
Now that we're done
@caleb
Ruby was livid, but she was also hurting. She'd made the mistake of falling in love again. She'd fallen for Walker, got married and was supposed to be having twins with him, but clearly, that hadn't been good enough for him. When he'd come home accusing her of having an affair and the twins not being his she'd ignored him, assumed he was drunk and in one of his moods but then he'd dropped the bomb. He was so adamant that the twins weren't his, that he'd announced he'd wanted a divorce there and then and all but kicked her to the curb. She'd packed as quickly as she could whilst arguing with him. Walker had, had the nerve to accuse her of cheating on him with Caleb of all people. She'd done that once before, yes and learnt her lesson. She'd been nothing but loyal to her 'husband', but no he didn't want her even being friends with the blonde and she'd drawn the line there. Walker was boarding on being controlling with his demand and Ruby was not going to throw away three years of friendship because Walker couldn't trust her. He was still friends with Truly and he'd shagged her, sure it was only one time. But it was still a shag and did you see her telling him not to be her friend? No, because she was above that. Marriage was a vow to love and devote yourselves to each other; not to dictate who your significant other spent time with. Walker had even had the nerve to accuse Caleb of being the twins father, but she'd shut him down; the wizard had been in France then and she'd fallen pregnant, at school. No, Walker was just childish and the responsibility of being a parent had sunk in. He'd told her that the 'shiny and new' feeling of them being parents soon had worn off and she'd flipped. They were human beings, not things. Well, if he was going to be like that. So was she. He had all but admitted that he didn't want the responsibility of being a father, so she wasn't going to see that through. She wasn't going to let her twins be picked up and dropped when it suited him, they deserved better.

When she'd packed, she'd grabbed Zeke's spare key from the hook by the door and let herself into her brother's house. He was going to be furious when he found out and Ruby was glad that Hazel would be able to keep him in line should the need arise. Ruby wasn't going to tell Zeke yet, or Hazel. Her brother had too much going on with losing Teuila and then having Lorcan be in NICU. She wasn't going to add more, she might call Hazel later, but right now she'd leave the pair alone. Zeke didn't need the stress and Ruby wanted Hazel to focus on looking after her brother for her. To the redhead's relief, Zeke hadn't come home the night before, he'd practically been living at the hospital and Ruby dreaded to think when he'd last slept. The witch had seized the opportunity of being alone to move all her things to the spare room to avoid Zeke finding out what had been going on without her telling him. That night she hadn't slept a wink and just spent the entire evening cuddled up with Nova on the sofa and crying. How could everything have gone from being so perfect to a mess? How was she going to cope raising her twins alone? She'd normally ask Zeke for help, but he'd have his hands full with Lorcan. She'd get her own place when her thoughts weren't as messy, but things were going to be hard. She was due in three months and she struggled to do much alone now. She was stuck, heartbroken and wanted to just shut herself off from the world.

She couldn't though, she'd made plans with Caleb a week ago, he'd received a new broom from Logan a little while before and the pair were going to catch up. She wanted to cancel, the irony of the situation wasn't lost on her. Walker would no doubt yell about it proving her point, but her ex was in a sort of relationship with Lyra from what Hazel had told her. Ruby was wrestling with herself though, it was clear she'd not slept a wink and her eyes were red from the exhaustion and the tears; no amount of concealer would hide that, especially not from Caleb. But did she really want to tell him what had happened? They were close and highly protective of her, he may be a Hufflepuff but Ruby had no doubt in her mind, he'd lose it when he found out. But she couldn't lie to him and if she cancelled, he would get more concerned and show up at her house and if Walker answered with news of their divorce? Well, she knew exactly what  Caleb would do and she really didn't like the idea of them getting into a fight. Walker may not love her but she loved him and she wasn't going to let him get hurt and she wasn't going to let Caleb do anything rash. No, she'd have to go and see Caleb and be honest with him. Like ripping a plaster off, just get it over and done with quickly.

The pair had arranged to meet in Toadstool End, it was far enough away that Caleb could fly without worry of being hurt by people who would see people like him dead or muggles. Sure, things were finally starting to change for the Muggleborns and get better, but things weren't going to change overnight and the Muggleborns would still be suitably cautious. Ruby threw on a pair of clean clothes and washed her face to try and hide any trace of her crying before stepping into her brother's fireplace and using the floo network to get to the quaint village. It was cold, but Ruby had wrapped up as best as possible and was pacing outside the falconry as she waited for Caleb so they could head to the nearby countryside so he could fly in peace. She had his Christmas present tucked under her arm and she rubbed her eyes once more when she saw him approaching in the reflection of the falconry and she turned her back to the building to meet his gaze, planting a forced smile on her lips and clearing her throat, "You took your time." She stated, trying to sound lighthearted but her voice shook a little and she prayed he'd overlook it. Ruby knew she'd crumble if he asked what was wrong. She couldn't keep her emotions hidden when it came to Caleb and maybe it would be nice to have someone to confide in. Normally it was Hazel, but the witch was understandably prioritising Ezekiel.

Caleb knew from personal experience that love was anything but easy. It was the most challenging of emotions and it was the most difficult one for anyone to experience. It was trying on anyone. It was also one that not many people had much experience in trying to control. From first-hand experience, Caleb knew that he was unable to control who he had fallen in love with. Yes it was true, he still loved her and yes he had done the wrong thing by cheating on Lyra and it had been with Ruby. Neither girl was ignorant of how he had been with either of them. Caleb knew it had hardly been fair on them and he was sorry for his actions but it was all too late for apologies now. Yes, he still loved Ruby and believe she would be the only witch for him. But he knew that she was with Walker. The other wizard had made it pretty clear to him that he wanted him to stay away from Ruby. Caleb didn’t think that was right at all. He wasn’t going to steal away Ruby. He believed in marriage. He had seen his parents have a very good marriage before his mother had been taken away from him tragically. If she was still here with him, Caleb wondered how different his life would be. He still wasn’t sure if it would be any different but he would never know.

Hearing that she was pregnant had come as a shock to him mainly because of how fast things had moved between her and Walker. When the two of them had been together, he recalled her always being so strict with her contraceptive potion. Caleb knew it wasn’t a hundred per cent effective as was the case with muggle contraceptives. Still, he wondered if he was selfish if him wanting Ruby not to be pregnant was something he wanted because he wanted her to carry his children. But at the end of the day, regardless of everything, Caleb was certain that she would make an incredible mother. He knew that she had an amazing support network around her that would step in when required. He was one of those people. Caleb had been asked to be Godfather to the twins and he had humbly accepted. That was not something he had expected. Still, it was nice to have this responsibility placed on him. He knew that once his situation was better for him, he would not hold back on spoiling the girls.

When it came to his own situation, Caleb just hoped it improved soon. He took each day as they came. He knew most muggleborns lived life much like that. No one knew what was going to come next. Whatever was next in store for Muggleborns, Caleb hoped it was something progress towards their freedom. What he would do to be able to fly without any repercussions again. He was so thankful that Logan had made him a broom. He knew the other wizard was having a hard time currently without no magic. Caleb missed getting sick so he was happy that now he had his broom, he was actually been able to use it. He missed the days when he could just leave his former house, his massive penthouse and just go flying with Archer as he pleased. He was glad to have Archer by his side all the time. The owl meant more to him then he would know. He had initially bought him so he could write to Ruby after he had graduated and she remained at Hogwarts finishing off her schooling. Times were supposed to be simpler now but they were anything but.

Caleb had happily made plans with Ruby to meet up and he didn’t mind it being in Toadstool End. He wondered if Ruby had told Walker where she was heading. Caleb hoped she had kept it quiet or he wouldn’t like to think what Walker would do if he found out his wife was going to meet up with her ex-boyfriend. Yes, they were exes but now they were just great friends and Caleb only had the best interests of Ruby to carry out. He was not wanting to get back with her, despite what Walker may have initially felt. But Caleb was more mature than that. There had been something he had felt off about Walker but he had never said a word about that to Ruby or even to Zeke. He had made a mental note to check in on Zeke one of these days. But Caleb understood he would be busy with his son, even more so now after losing Teulia.

The wizard arrived in the little village with his broom shrunk down and hidden up the sleeve of his jumper. He hoped that Ruby wouldn’t be too bored as she watched him fly around. He had taken up on a broom many times but when she was heavily pregnant, it definitely wasn’t advisable. He smiled at her as he made his way over to where she stood. ”Hey, nice to see you too” he laughed as he hugged her with one arm. ”Everything okay?” Caleb asked noting that it looked like she had been rubbing her eyes.

And so what,

I'm still a rockstar

Sometimes Ruby wished that the things in her life right now had never happened. She loved her twins more than life itself and she was going to keep on going, just for them. She wanted to be better emotionally, mentally and physically come March. She had to think of the girls and she had to remind herself that everything in her life would now revolve around them. They were her world, her life. Ideally, Ruby would have wanted to wait until she was out of school and even university to start settling down with a family, but sometimes things didn’t go the way you planned in your mind. Right now, she regretted marrying Walker and allowing herself to accept that she was going to have children but Ruby also knew that that was just because of how she was feeling right now. When the twins were here, she hoped that everything would be alright.

Anger was one of Ruby’s biggest issues though. Her anger towards Walker was too much right now, she couldn’t understand what had happened. He’d been so excited about the prospect of being a father. His whole family had even shared his excitement and then it just disappeared overnight. She was almost certain Walker had probably already spoken to his family and told them what a terrible person she was, he was just that petty. She wasn’t though, she was going to be the better person. She wasn’t going to make all the attention go on her and unnecessarily bring up all his faults. She would be the better person and just ignore it. She wasn’t going to sink to his level. She was an adult, not a child and that was exactly how her husband had been acting. Like a child. Maybe it was a good job that he’d shown his true colours now? It saved her having to raise three children instead of two at least.

Ruby wanted to continue to think of all the ways to bring harm upon Walker for hurting her the way he had, but she couldn’t afford to let her anger ruin today. Today was Caleb showing off his new broom to her and she wanted to enjoy it. She had hardly seen her friend and she missed the quality time they usually spent together but being pregnant had taken its toll on her and then, of course, all the problems Walker raised when Ruby even mentioned her ex. She hadn’t told Caleb to what extent Walker’s treatment towards her had been. She didn’t want him to worry or get angry because when that happened he made rash actions and the witch did not want to be responsible for any harm that could come to either Walker or Caleb. She hadn’t even thought about what Ezekiel might do when he found out, he’d probably be the same as Caleb and despite the hatred and anger Ruby felt towards Walker right now, she didn’t want him to get hurt. The idea that he would eventually open his eyes and realise what he’d done was satisfying enough to keep her going. Violence wasn’t the answer, in this case, Walker realising what a bloody fool he was, and what he had lost was. She had seen first hand how Walker reacted when he realised the consequences of his actions and she was confident, that this claim for divorce would eventually bring a reaction about him. And the girls? Sure, he had said he didn’t think they were his and he didn’t want him. But the nursery in their house had said otherwise, so had the framed scan pictures that decorated the living room and bedroom. She just had to play the waiting game.

Ruby leaned into the hug when Caleb came to her side and she rested her head on his shoulder with a tiny smile and wrapped her arms awkwardly around his waist, "Of course, it’s me. I’m amazing.” Ruby said, her voice cracking as she tried to make a joke and she cleared her throat. "I’m fine, Caleb. It’s nothing to worry about. I just had a bad night last night.” She replied evasively, stepping out of the hug and wrapping her arms around her waist, "Shall we head towards the field then? We don’t want to keep you waiting much longer.”

Caleb took each bought of change in his stride. He believed there was no other way he could handle it. He had to survey the current climate around him and manage change according to them and his own situation. That was what he had seen when he had returned to the UK from France. But what he found when it came back didn’t sit well with him but he worked as best he could with Ruby and her engagement and eventual marriage. She meant a lot to him and always would. Their connection was something that no one could change. Not even Walker. He didn’t want to come in as some intruder but his initial gauge from the other wizard had been that exactly. Still, he looked past that and got on with his life and tried to be there for Ruby as well as Zeke, Lyra and to try to go and see his father as well.

At least when it came to his own father, he was still in a position to go and see the man. He still had his magic and he was not going to exploit that fact with so many others losing theirs in recent times. He went to work, he came home and repeated that most days. He took Archer out on walks when it could, as long as he wasn’t tired. The wizard wondered if his Owl wondered what on hurt was going on with his human since so much had changed for them in recent times. But Caleb made sure to look after his owl, after all, Archer had become his best friend.

Ruby was a close friend but their relationship had evolved into something else. Caleb was unable to exactly label what they were now. But one thing was still there, the was always going to be there for her. Regardless of where they stood or who she was with or who he was with, he was going to be there. Caleb hoped Ruby knew that and that despite their long history and him leaving without a word, he was always going to be there for her to call on.

Him getting a broom from Logan was something he was very thankful for. The other wizard hadn’t need to do that. Caleb was excited to try it and Ruby was happy to accompany him. He was hoping it wouldn’t be to cold for her. However, he wasn’t going to argue with her if she was going to insist coming out to the pitch. He was happy to come out at night. It certainly made for a change from all the smoke and dust he inhaled from all the chimneys and fireplaces he worked on cleaning. Caleb didn’t know much longer he could do that for.

He wanted his freedom back, he wanted to go and play Quidditch so badly. But muggleborns were worthless and were unable to rejoin the lead. It was outrageous in his mind but who was he to decide what people like him could and couldn't do. He knew exactly much power or influence people like him didn't have.

It was going to be nice to be able to be in the air and forget about all the shit he was going through. Caleb would have offered to take Ruby on his broom but she was in her final trimester and he didn’t think that was the best thing to do. Plus it would only cause him hurt. That was something he could do without.

She may have told him that she was fine but something called Caleb otherwise. He liked to think even with him being away, he hadn’t forgotten how to read the witch. He nodded and held out his arm to her so she could hook hers into him if she wanted to. ”So how are my godchildren treating you? Do I need to have a word with them?” he asked smiling slightly as he looked down at her as they made their way closer to the pitch. He hoped that she was referring to when she spoke of having a bad night.

So What
I guess I just lost my husband, I don't know where he went.
When Caleb had fled to France, Ruby had felt so many different emotions. She’d been angry at him for abandoning her, hurt that he’d not told her where he was going or even contacted her; until he’d shown up in the UK again she hadn’t even known if he was even alive. When the lockdown had finally ended in her sixth year, she’d quickly found him doing his newly assigned ‘job’ with some help and guidance from her brother, those holidays had been tense. She’d come home to the apartment she’d shared with Caleb to find everything had been left untouched and the place just… abandoned. That had been the first issue, Ruby couldn’t afford to keep that house, she was newly graduated and about to become a University student; the couple had depended on Caleb to cover the bills for the place but with him gone, she’d had one choice and that was to move back in with her brother. Caleb had understood at the time and Ruby had felt such guilt for having to move out, but she couldn’t manage it. She had to focus on her own studies so that she could prepare to provide a decent life for her and Caleb whilst he couldn’t. That hadn’t lasted long though.

The conversation she’d had with Ezekiel at the start of her seventh year though had really thrown her through a loop. The sheer panic she’d felt when her older brother had told her that he had lost track of Caleb was still a hard memory to swallow, she knew of the abuse the muggleborns had been given. She’d seen the effect it had on Caleb and others and for him to just disappear? It had scared her. Zeke had tried to reassure her that Caleb was still alive, he’d not been listed as dead, but Ruby hadn’t cared; Caleb was gone and she had no idea where. She’d hoped and prayed to see Archer when she’d gone back to school but there was nothing, just radio silence and it was as if Caleb was dead. It had been a hard pill to swallow but after some comfort from Hazel and Ezekiel, Ruby had just… accepted he was gone, pretended he was dead and then started to try and move on. Then along had come Walker.

Walker had seemed like the person she needed to put all the pieces back together, he’d helped her in ways that Zeke and Hazel couldn’t and she’d been happy she was in love and quickly engaged. It had all seemed so perfect, of course, Ruby should have realised it was too good to last. When she’d found out she was pregnant, she’d been so scared. Sure, she was in her last year at school when it had happened, she was almost certain it had been the Easter holidays but she’d been close enough to graduating and early enough in her pregnancy that she could hide it from everyone and complete her exams but it had become complicated in September, she’d still gone to University. Walker had filled her with confidence, told her that she could study at Lufkin and raise their children, that he’d be there to help her. But it had clearly been a lie.

Jealousy was a terrible thing and when Caleb had returned, the witch had been thrilled to see him alive and well, but fearful about what could happen if he was caught; he had been a fugitive after all. Walker hadn’t taken it well though. She could understand his jealousy admittedly, she and Caleb had quite the history and Ruby had been honest with Walker about how she’d cheated on Jay with Caleb in the past, but that had been in the past and her heart belonged to Walker. Even Caleb knew that and he’d seemed to be getting close to Lyra again after all. She hadn’t expected things to escalate quite as much as it had and here she was, pregnant and single. Walker had been the one to heal her, now he’d broken her all over again. Ruby knew still coming to see Caleb after last night was probably just going to prove Walker’s point in his eyes, but that wasn’t the case at all. Caleb knew her well and he’d be suspicious if she cancelled so randomly. Sure, the fact she’d been crying would probably raise a few questions, but she was hopeful that Caleb wouldn’t notice. "They’ve been fine, they both are after more space and I swear they’ve cracked a rib or something with their kicking.” She said with a weak laugh, it wasn’t a lie, her ribs were feeling particularly bruised, but she was able to manage and wasn’t in too much pain so she wasn’t that worried yet. "You can try and give them a talking to, but I doubt they’ll listen.” She continued with a small smile. She hoped Caleb would just assume her problem today was the twins and she was more than happy to go along with it, but a beeping in her pocket as she received a text made the colour drain from her face. No, she’d ignore it. She wasn’t going to give Walker the satisfaction of upsetting her and ruining her time with Caleb - assuming it was him.

Both Ruby and Lyra knew he had never wanted to run away from his registration. He had even berated himself many times over while he had been away. Caleb had lost count of the number of times he had called himself a coward and a jerk for leaving Ruby in the way he had. He knew she would never forgive him for just deserting her like he had. Even if they both knew why he had left, the fact that he had actually carried out with that plan never sat well with him. He had constantly felt sick to the stomach and he wished he had been brave he had stayed. He could have very well asked Zeke for some kind of tutorial in how to be brave. The younger wizard had endured a lot and had been brave enough to step to training as an Auror. That was a job that Caleb knew he could never do. He could disarm someone if he had to do and he excelled at saving shots the goalposts but that had been his job. Losing that work left him feeling so inadequate. He had wanted to provide for Ruby, at least until she had been able to get herself a decent job. However, that chance had been taken away from him when the registration had been placed into effect. He knew that Ruby would never call him inadequate or worthless but she couldn’t change how he felt.

While he had been away, he had wanted to contact Ruby and to reassure her that he was alive and staying safe. He had only come to learn that Zeke had been tracking him when he got back. But that hadn’t been the only piece of news he had learned when he had returned. There was, of course, Ruby and Walker. To say he had felt like a castaway was an understatement but the wizard was only fooling himself if he thought like that. He had wanted Ruby to be happy and if the other wizard had brought her that, then he was in no place to stand in the way of that. He had expected Ruby to yell and scream at him when he saw her after returning and she had done just that. Caleb hadn’t even bothered to stop her, she had to get mad at him. He had put her through hell and that was putting lightly and then he had just returned like nothing was wrong. Of course, that was a lie. He had never wanted to hurt her but he couldn’t undo his mistakes.

When he had seen there had been some hope of them repairing their friendship, he had jumped at the chance. He couldn’t have her as his lover but he could have her as a good friend. But she had been a great friend and he had only threatened her like crap in return. Well, no more, he was going to do right by her and be her friend. She had asked him to be godfather to her twins and he wasn’t about to turn down the chance to be there for her and her babies. He wanted to help her and be there if she ever needed him. Caleb would always love her, even if he did end up dating someone else, some part of him was always going to love her. He didn’t know how to stop. But he never told her that and he wasn’t going to bring it up.

She was happy and that was what he wanted for Ruby. She deserved in Caleb’s opinion. Despite their rocky history, he wanted her to be happy and content no matter who she was with. He knew that he would find his own slice of happiness eventually, he just had to be patient about it. He had his friends around and that was something Caleb valued a lot.

The fact that Logan had made him a broom was something that Caleb was still trying to comprehend. The other wizard had lost his magic and yet he was still able to craft some wonderful looking flying equipment. It was time to put it’s through it’s paces and see just how fine this flying tool was. He probably wouldn’t have done it without Ruby’s insistence and so he was glad she had pushed him to come out tonight. He would have tried to get her to join him on the broom but knew it wasn’t safe with her being so far in her pregnancy.

”Just you watch me when you sit down” he laughed trying to ignore the change in her expression when she glanced at her phone. Something was up but he waited to see if she would tell him herself or if he had to press for details. When they arrived at the pitch, Caleb put his broom down and helped Ruby take a seat before he knelt down in front of her and started to focus his gaze on her belly. ”Hell you two…..it’s your godfather here…..I hear you two are fighting for space.” h paused, looking thoughtful for a moment. ”It’s not nice to cause your mother so much trouble” Caleb didn’t care if he looked silly now, he just wanted Ruby to feel comfortable.
