general appearance
At 5'11", Tristan is tall. He definitely towers over Amora which was not the case when they first met but he doesn't like talking about that. He's fairly in shape and carries himself with a perfect posture, the result of years of playing in an orchestra paired with some of the best etiquette training in the world. He has blue-green eyes from his mother's side of the family and pitch black hair from... well, he has pitch black hair. Usually, Tristan sports at least a stubble, maybe a beard although that's usually at Amora's request because yeah he's kinda whipped. He typically wears very formal clothing when he's at the conservatory, of course, and even at home, it's something semi-formal, like a shirt with a rather nice blazer, unless he's strip duelling with Amora.

skills
+ Music, composing, violin. It was something his mother had done for her whole life, and by nature the Moreaus have always been more artistically inclined. Tristan started learning anything and everything about music when he was just three years old, which was also when he started violin lessons. So that means... he's been playing the violin for 35 years and practicing music theory for nearly just as long.

+ Charms. It was one of his best classes at Beauxbatons and he finds this incredibly helpful when he has a million sheets of music scattered all over his desk that he needs to organize. Also useful for other practical reasons, like protective wards and duelling.

+ Duelling, dark arts. "Amora likes to say I only win if I cheat. But I've never cheated in a duel in my life. I've only used my resources to their fullest extent." Or, more accurately, you make a point of being shirtless when you're duelling with your wife. "Which was also how we came up with strip duelling..."

+ Transfiguration. Another one of his better classes while at Beauxbatons, Tristan was always quite good at all things Transfiguration. It also helped him a great deal that one time he ruined a brand new violin... although he did get caught in the end anyways.

+ Parenting. Believe it or not, he really is great at being a father. Actually being in love with his wife helps, he's sure, and Tristan would likely cite that nature tends to win out over nurture sometimes, because he did get lucky with Emmanuelle, Gabriel, and Noël.

+ Multilingual. Probably obvious, but his first language is French. He can also hold his own in Breton, Norman, and Bulgarian.  And he does speak fluent English as well, since his mother lived in England for a good portion of her life.

+ Dancing. Well, not the kind of dancing Amora does, obviously. Ballet was far from his skill, although he can appreciate it. No, it's ballroom dancing that Tristan is really good at, mostly because his mother insisted on him taking lessons all the time when he was young. Something he used to complain about profusely, although it certainly paid off, right Amora?

+ Creativity. You need a lot of this to be a musician and a composer. Even outside of his career, though, Tristan has always been good at problem-solving and thinking outside of the box. "Besides, you really do need a lot of creativity to be one-half of the genius behind strip duelling."
weaknesses
- Herbology, gardening. Tristan is far from having a green thumb. He much prefers to spend his days in a studio working on music, or at the ballet, or at an art gallery, or at the theatre. So basically, things unrelated to nature and involving his family. "None of the Moreaus have every gone down the more... nature-like route, anyways, unless you count Séraphine being a Healer--but specialized in Spell Damage. It really is a family curse."

- His wife and children. Obviously, he thinks this should almost go without saying. Except for the fact that it's really important, and it needs to be said. When all is said and done, he and Amora have known one another for over twenty-three years, and they've been married for nineteen. Tristan would do just about anything for her, and this goes beyond the joking comments on growing out his beard for specific occasions. As for the kids--well, they're theirs. Tristan is insanely protective of all three of his children, and he's always encouraged them in everything they pursued.

- The family name. He's a Moreau, and that does mean a lot. An old Parisian family garnering a great deal of respect in pureblood circles, Tristan has always known that being a Moreau meant carrying himself with a certain level of integrity, and he had no qualms with that. After all, he is the heir... at least, on paper. The other family name that's a weakness for Tristan is the Black one. A name he held for one a year of his life, but one he has always known about. He was forbidden to talk about the arrangement to anyone at all, and of everyone that did know, Tristan and his mother were the only ones to not have sworn an Unbreakable Vow to stay silent. Well... and Amora. "Fighting to keep her out of the Unbreakable Vow was a whole other ordeal, though..."

- Trusting people. Well... considering half of his existence has been kept secret via several Unbreakable Vows between his mother and other family members, Tristan was never quick to trust. It was easier not to trust, and even while at school, his friends were just close enough. "Of course, then Amora Travers had to defy the norm." Yes, but we're getting ahead of ourselves.

- Stubbornness. He's very stubborn. Right, Amora? Right. If Tristan thinks he's in the right, or if he wants things a certain way, he won't quite until it is just so. No matter what anyone says. A great skill for an heir, but he has often overworked himself to exhaustion like this.

- Hubris. Much like the previous point, Tristan is not very good at admitting when he's wrong, and he has a tendency to think he knows what's best. Which... is usually true, but not always. And still a weakness, no matter what he says.

character history
"I was born in Boulogne-Billancourt, in the secondary residence of the Moreau family, and spent about a year hidden away on the estate. Not that I remember this, but that's how my mother tells it. They had to figure out what to do with her. With us. Again, je ne m'en souviens pas. It was all resolved in the end, though, and as I grew older, that was explained, too.

"Maman married a distant Moreau after that mess got cleaned up. All it had taken, apparently, was an intricately forged contract and a fair few Unbreakable Vows. All in a day's work. I suppose there is something to be said for Moreau Creativity. Enfin, I grew up with Alain Moreau as my father. Legally, anyways, and he did treat me like his own son. We had a close relationship, but as soon as I was old enough to talk and understand, Maman explained my true parentage to me. There was no excuse for ignorance.

"She told me who my real father was, and what that meant to people back in Britain. What it meant to people here, really. I was shown my true birth certificate, and Maman's first marriage license. She explained the pressures she had been under... being the end of her line was already a lot of pressure, even if it was the junior line. The Moreau name was dying out. On top of all of that, Walburga Black was, apparently, a very insistent presence. All things considered, though, her first marriage, though shorter than their betrothal contract, had been good enough. Until my father had died and the war had ended in a way that... would not be good for my mother. Already shooed away to France by her mother-in-law, though, she was stuck.

"As I grew older, it made more sense to me. The gravity of my former name, of the blood that I had. Of the danger it could pose, to certain people. I began to understand why things had panned out this way and to appreciate the lengths to which the Moreaus had gone to shelter me... someone they didn't really owe much to. I suppose there were some selfish motivations involved, as well, but at the end of the day, it hadn't been an easy affair for anyone. Knowing you will live the rest of your days with an Unbreakable Vow is hardly a walk in the park.

"In any case, I grew up a Moreau. I grew up a pureblood, a Parisian, and an heir, nonetheless. Alain and Alix were my parents, as far as anyone else was concerned, and I heeded my mother's stern orders to keep my own secret. There was no use in blathering about it, either, and I had always had a mind for self-preservation.

"I was put into violin lessons as early as possible, and I took to that quite quickly. Music, arts, theatre, dance... that was the type of thing that ran in the Moreau family. I went to Beauxbatons, when I turned eleven, just like Alain. Maman had gone to Hogwarts in her youth, part of her arrangement with the Blacks, but living in Paris meant that I was set for the school that the Moreaus had attended for centuries. Before leaving home, though, something had to be done. A precaution. Maman made sure to form an Unbreakable Vow between me and everyone involved in the affair. Just in case, she had said. I knew what she meant. Just in case... something happened to her, there would still be a bond.

"Beauxbatons was fine enough. I did well in my classes, excelled at duelling as one might imagine. There was a lot of family there, too. It was a good school. When I came back after my first year, things started to change at home. Alain and Maman were growing closer, and after my first year I had a half-sister, Dominique. A few years after that, a half-brother, Achille. Strange as it was, this never made me feel like I was being pushed out. I was always treated like... a Moreau. Despite what we all knew.

"Things got exciting in my fifth year. There was some interschool duelling tournament between Beauxbatons, Durmstrang, and Koldovstoretz. Younger students were only allowed to go with parent permission, and well... it took a lot of convincing. But my mother gave in eventually. We were fine. There were no loose ends, and there was no reason I couldn't just live my life. Most European families cared too much about me being the Moreau heir to question if there was a possibility of something else. And anyways, the tournament was in Russia, at Koldovstoretz. Far, far away from England.

"I have a very vague recollection of how well I actually did." He did okay, but it wasn't a win, so he won't talk about it. "That's not the point. Hardly the highlight of the whole event, anyways. The highlight was meeting Amora Travers on my first day there. She was from Durmstrang. I was drawn in. Amora made that tournament all the more enjoyable." They were pitted against each other for one of the duels and she won. "I don't remember it like that, actually."

Right.

"Not that it matters, anyways, because the final duel of the tournament was celebrated with a ball--and I asked Amora to go with me. She said yes, we danced, we talked, it was a very good night, overall. When I returned to Beauxbatons and she to Durmstrang, we sent letters. Her family spent their summers in Paris, anyways, which was just extremely convenient... Dom was always making some prodding comments about how I may as well have moved into the Travers' Parisian property, at that point.

"I think even a blind man could have seen I liked Amora a lot. I'm sure she knew and just enjoyed stalling me for all of those years. Hardly a complaint from me, though. We only grew closer and closer, over time, and I can be very patient when I have a goal. Amora was my goal. She had been since that first day I saw her.

"A few months before I graduated from Beauxbatons, I found out that Amora was moving to Paris--permanently. She had gotten a position in the corps de ballet at the Paris Opera. I had gotten accepted into the Conservatoire de Paris. Being of age and graduated, I moved into one of the smaller, secondary residences under the Moreau name--there's a lot of those, especially in Paris. Something smaller than an estate, hidden in plain sight, in the Belleville neighbourhood.

"Amora could have just as easily moved into the Travers property. Instead, I proposed.

"She accepted--you know, a big part of me expected that, but she's very good at keeping you one your toes, so you never quite know. But she did accept. We weren't engaged for all that long. Just enough to plan a perfect society wedding, one that had likely driven both of our mothers mad. That was probably the most entertaining part of the whole thing, to be honest. Although I have a feeling the reason they pulled the wedding together so fast was because they had been planning it since we were sixteen."

That is absolutely true. Alix and Bianca went to school together, and wasted no time to start making plans as soon as they caught wind of their adorable letter-sending.

"Of course, getting married brought... a whole other problem. My true parentage. I didn't want Amora to not know this. I didn't want to enter a marriage already harbouring a secret. So I told her--everything. All of the details of my mother's first marriage, and to who that marriage was... of course, she knew the importance of that. Amora had been raised in Bulgaria, but she was a Travers.

"Maman wanted her to make an Unbreakable Vow. That had been the agreement. Everyone involved had made an Unbreakable Vow. She was no exception. I was against it. The argument lasted... days. Ultimately, I won. It was my blood. I was the only one in danger. And, most of all, I trusted Amora. She didn't need to make an Unbreakable Vow for me to be certain that she wouldn't betray me. My mother was far from happy about it, but... she understood. I think she felt some guilt about how insistent she had been when it came to Alain.

"Anyways, we were married. Moved into one of the bigger Moreau properties closer to Amora's ballet company, somewhere quieter and more isolated. Things settled down for a time. Amora found out she was pregnant a few years later. The twins were born. Both of us kept rising in the ranks as far as our careers were concerned. We had a third child, a son, some years later. Things were very good, and we were happy.

"We faced a decision when Amora got the Prima Ballerina position in England. I applied, for the sake of trying, to Gambol Music Hall... and found myself promoted. On top of that, Jason needed someone to escort Anthony to England to stay with the Dolohov family, and--well, the timing was all rather good. Neither of us wanted to uproot the children too much, but sometimes change is good.

"We've been settling down in England now. Ironically enough, right back to my roots. The old Moreau property in which my mother and grandfather had lived while she was going to Hogwarts. It isn't... the worst place in the world. Although Emmanuelle does have a point--there really is no good substitute for the Louvre."

JUST HAVE THE TREE I'm so tired
family history
The renowned Phineas Nigellus Black had four sons and a daughter. One son was an heir--Sirius Black, a man of fairness and poise, graced with two sons. One son was his namesake, Phineas Black, cursed with only a single daughter before his wife perished. One son was Arcturus Black, stern and strict and, as if the Fates were trying to make a mockery of the Black family tree, cursed with three daughters, one of which turned blood traitor. The daughter was Belvina, a sweet girl that was well-bred enough to marry a Burke, thank Salazar. Finally, there was Cygnus Black, perhaps the most proud of all five children. A whole twelve years younger than his oldest brother and fourth in line for the inheritance, Cygnus had plans to change his legacy of being the sparest of spares from a very young age.

Cygnus was betrothed to Violetta Bulstrode early in life, as Sirius was to Hesper Gamp, Phineas to Jane Arundell, Arcturus to Lysandra Yaxley, and Belvina to Herbert Burke. All of these connections were meant to further the influence of the Black family. By the time Cygnus found out about his own betrothal, though, Sirius was already married and expecting a child. Even at twelve years old, Cygnus cursed under his breath as his oldest brother's first child was a son. As time carried on, though, Cygnus felt his hopes perhaps... growing a bit. His oldest brother had two sons, yes, but his other brothers had none. And Cygnus--well, Cygnus had one son. Marius was... not his, the abomination.

Cygnus' thoughts on the proper reigning heir of the Black family were... extremist. He believed the Lord Black should be of purest blood, as the Black family claimed to be. The purest Black, to be precise. Black father, Black mother. Still, all of Arcturus' daughters were already promised, so Cygnus' hopes of achieving this with his son, Pollux, were dashed. And Lycoris was such... an odd girl. No. Pollux would have to settle with his betrothal to Irma Crabbe, and then maybe Cygnus' grandson could have the opportunity to produce the purest Black. But then--Sirius was already expecting a grandchild and Pollux was only twelve. Something had to be done. The age difference between their generations, at this point, would ruin all of Cygnus' plans. He had to act quick, lest Sirius have a grandson that he would quickly betroth to some... MacDougal, or something. And in a moment of cruel ingenuity, Cygnus knew just what he had to do. All he needed was the permission of Irma's parents--which he wholeheartedly received.

Irma was held back from Hogwarts a year. There was the involvement of love potions. And in 1925, just a few shy months after the birth of Lucretia Black, a young Pollux returned from Hogwarts to find his first child, Walburga.

Two daughters, Lucretia and Walburga. Unfortunate, really. But Cygnus thought this might work better yet. If his nephew would just hurry up and have a son, already, they could betroth Walburga to him and finally--finally--have the purest of the Black heirs take the mantle of Lord Black. That was all they needed. Cygnus could be patient if it meant his dearest grandchild Walburga being The Lady Black.

Finally, it happened, and Orion Black was born. Cygnus jumped at the opportunity to betroth his granddaughter to him. Pollux and Irma were still in school, after all, so it was up to him to raise his granddaughter until they finished and could begin producing heirs. Yes, heirs. Finally.

Orion and Walburga married shortly after Orion graduated from Hogwarts. Cygnus did not live long enough to meet the pure Black heir he had spent, quite literally, his entire life trying to achieve. But in 1959, finally, Sirius Black was born. And shortly after, a spare--Regulus Black.

Time carried on for the purest Blacks. Arcturus, Orion's father, lived a long and prosperous life, unfortunately for Orion and Walburga, long outliving his wife, who had died during Orion's childbirth. Still, Orion was always poised to take on the mantle of Lord Black, and Walburga fussed over her boys to make sure that they, too, were ready. They were both betrothed, but as many know, Sirius did not care for these titles and arrangements. Regulus, on the other hand... he knew pure was best. He knew what the blood running through his veins meant. So Walburga set her sights on him, making sure to not only groom him as the perfect Lord, but find a wife that would be... convenient.

A woman of pure blood and regal connections, as well as one that was unknown enough to England so that Regulus might be protected. So that the Black family name would live on, even if those pesky little mudbloods got the best of them. All it took was some letters to France to find out that the junior Moreau branch would die out with their daughter, Alix, so Walburga presented them with the possibility to, one day, reign as the Lady Black instead. The Moreaus were of good standing, pure and loyal to those ideals. Proud former followers of Grindelwald--and likely would have followed after Voldemort, had they not lived in France.

Alix and her father--her mother long dead since childbirth, as well as the last of her line--moved to England so that she may familiarize herself with her future reign. And her future husband. Alix and Regulus first met at eleven years old, under the watchful eyes of Walburga Black and Noël Moreau, Alix's father. They were shown the betrothal contract and told the importance of keeping this arrangement to themselves. They weren't just being thrown together for the sake of purity. They were a way to preserve the Black legacy if the Dark Lord didn't succeed in his goals to expunge all the dirt from their world.

Over the years, Regulus did find himself taken with Alix--although it was unclear if this was true love. After all, that's quite the ominous word, to a teenager. Love. Nonetheless, by the time they were both seventeen years old, the war was reaching a tense peak, Sirius had been disowned, and Walburga felt that more drastic measures needed to be taken. They were both adults, after all, so Walburga and Noël took Regulus and Alix on a summer trip to France before their seventh year at Hogwarts... so they could be married, in secret. Officially a Black, but no one needed to know. At least not until purebloods were at the top.

Regulus and Alix finished their schooling and Walburga, much like her obsessive grandfather, quickly pressured them into having a child. After all, Regulus was marked, Sirius was disinherited, her brother had only girls--one turned blood traitor, a cruel repetition of her great uncle's fate--and they were in the middle of a war. And Regulus--he valued pureblood supremacy. He really did. In fact, he thought purebloods deserved to be at the top--but the cost was not great, in his opinion. Not as great as the Dark Lord was making it out to be. Violence and lying were all... unnecessary. Hurting Kreacher--his house elf, his only companion for so many years--had been a line that Regulus would not tolerate to be crossed by anyone. Voldemort was just a halfbreed with no cares for them. He was rash. He would be their end. So Regulus had to be his end. He had to try, at least.

Regulus Black died trying. Two weeks after his funeral, Alix discovered she was pregnant.

Still not revealed as Regulus' lawful wife, and carrying an heir inside her, Walburga sent her back to France. Best to protect that blood, after all. He would be the last, so dearest Alix could come back once all of this violence passed.

Except that the violence didn't pass. Voldemort died, and Death Eaters were imprisoned. So Alix remained in France, with a child. She had been on house arrest almost entirely, by her father's orders, as he tried to find a way to legitimize the Black child... without making him a Black. Without making him a target.

Within the circle of Noël Moreau and Alix Moreau; Elouan Moreau and Alain Moreau, of the inheriting line; Absalom Beaufort, Claudine Beaufort, and Reynard Beaufort, of the inheriting line; and Miette Devereux, Francois Devereux, and Gabrielle Devereux, what came to happen was almost affectionally called the Beaufort-Moreau-Devereux Affair. Alain, the new heir to the Moreau fortune--which is among the grandest in all of Western Europe--was married to Miette Devereux and had two daughters. Suddenly, as if by divine intervention, Elouan and Noël discovered an old contract between two Moreau men. Brothers, Philippe and Louis. A simple agreement. The younger would get half of the Moreau fortune to pass down the line to his family--but only if ever his line came to an end with a single daughter, she would be immediately promised to the current Moreau heir, and the fortunes would be joined once more.

Convenient context, one might say, but the Moreau family was known for their intricate contracts and close marriages. Alain Moreau was the current heir, already married to Miette--but the "just discovered" contract preceded their marriage. Alain and Miette were divorced, but Miette was promised to a cousin--Reynard Beaufort, the heir of his line--to maintain the Devereux ties. And Alain... he was married to the end of the junior line: Alix Moreau.

Alix's son was legitimized as a Moreau before anyone could whiff out much suspicion at all. Most just assumed their marriage was a rushed result of extra-marital affairs, anyways, so Tristan Orion Émeric Black became Tristan Orion Émeric Moreau. Loose ends were tied and... Alix made sure that they would never become untied.

Alain and Alix did grow to love each other, after Alix finished mourning the loss of Regulus. They had two children: Dominique and Achille. Alain had two daughters with Miette as well: Séraphine and Simone. As for Miette, after marrying Reynard, the pair also had another two children: Solange, Jules, and Xavier. Alain understood the gravity of Tristan's existence and willingly made an Unbreakable Vow with Alix. In fact, everyone involved in that affair made an Unbreakable Vow with her, and it was quite simple: they were forbidden from talking about Tristan's parentage to anyone that did not know of it, leaving her son's true identity in the hands of only two people... Alix and Tristan.

In retrospect, the Moreau family is far less exciting. They are an exceptionally purist and extremely wealthy Parisian family, notable for their involvement in artistic careers and their close marriages. Moreaus will do anything to maintain their pureblood status and readily supported Grindelwald during the Global Wizarding war. Alix was the end of the junior line. Her mother, Luminosa--the last of her own line as well--died during childbirth, and Noël could not bring himself to remarry. A daughter was a good connection, anyways, and the inheriting line was still prospering. He was proven right when he heard from Walburga Black, of all people, and while Noël would have much preferred the heir, Sirius, he decided to trust the woman's disdain towards her oldest son.

In the end, it was the Moreau line that was revived by the marriage of Alix and Alain, but Noël still views Tristan as his pride and joy.

I know that he can't be sorted yet because $$$, but I just wanted to let you know:

Unfortunately, from what we know about Regulus during that time, there is little reason to think that he had time to get anybody pregnant what with being a Death Eater and then single-handedly trying to destroy Voldemort’s horcruxes.

Also, since Tori has Andromeda, any modifications to her family tree needs her approval as well. That is how we used to do it and recently I have been trying to go back to that to keep trees in check!

Overall, finding a new father would probably be easiest! :) Thanks!

Hey!!

So, from what I know from the physiology classes I've taken, baby-making takes from 5 minutes to 1 hour depending on yo man amirite. But on a more serious note, I think we did a pretty good job of accounting for that time! I'm not sure how much of the family history you've gotten through (it's so long, I'm so sorry), but Regulus and Alix knew each other since they were 11, and as far as we know from canon, Regulus only got his hand on one of the horcruxes (and Voldemort more or less handed that to him).

I also didn't think Regulus as a father was an issue since we had an active character with Sirius Black as a father, and that was while he was a fugitive which I think is even less likely? I mean as far as canon people having children, we do it all the time on site! Emmeline Vance, Aberforth Dumbledore, Mykew Gregorovitch, Neville Longbottom, Cho Chang... etc. etc.!

As for tree things, I actually wasn't aware of that, just looking at recent events it seems a little inconsistent to me? Thalia got sorted just fine and she has two Black grandmothers! Moreover, I thought it would be okay since I know that there was a Vulchanov character accepted (when Iane has had Vulchanovs in her tree for a while) and I think mentions of Travers in an app somewhere (when, again, Iane has had them in her tree for a while).

I think the important thing to mention is that Regulus isn't a direct line to Andromeda, so we're not actually modifying her tree. This doesn't really affect anything in Andromeda's branch, or even inheritance wise since Tristan is a legitimized Moreau. More than that, he's the heir. And if we're talking closeness, Thalia's father is just as close of a relation to Regulus as Andromeda is, so that's a hard point to argue. With a tree like the Blacks, it's tough to say any one member owns the whole thing.
